Welcome to National Independent Beer Run Day!

Coming the day before Independence Day, National Independent Beer Run Day celebrates another kind of independence: independent craft beer. It "calls on beer lovers to seek the independent craft brewer seal and purchase craft beers produced by small and independent breweries for their Independence Day festivities." According to Julia Herz, the craft beer program director of the Brewers Association, the organization that founded the day, "Our libations and the liberation we're celebrating should go hand in hand. As you plan for this Fourth of July, think independent and drink independent."

The Brewers Association is a "not-for-profit trade association dedicated to small and independent American brewers, their beers and the community of brewing enthusiasts." Not only is it behind National Independent Beer Run Day, but it also is behind Small Brewery Sunday and American Craft Beer Week. For the first National Independent Beer Run Day, the association produced videos, audio spots, and "summer-themed sponsored playlists." They also attempted the longest cheers ever, where they toasted all 7,300 small and independent craft breweries in the United States.

Syracuse Basketball: 5-star Chris Cenac explodes in rankings, transfers to 2023 champs (itlh; Adler)
Chris Cenac Jr., a 2025 five-star big man who is currently competing for a USA Basketball junior national team at an international event in Turkey and holds a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball, is perhaps the hottest prospect around the country in the rising high school senior class.

The 6-foot-10 power forward/center, who in early June disclosed an offer from the Orange staff, has of late seen his national rankings absolutely skyrocket while his offer sheet balloons, inclusive of some heavyweight programs in college basketball.

Without question, the 'Cuse faces immense competition in trying to prevail for Cenac, although I give a lot of credit to Syracuse basketball coaches for making a run at him.

When both 247Sports and recently updated their 2025 rankings, Cenac made some of the biggest moves nationwide. He also recently announced that he would spend his senior year at one of the top high school programs.

Syracuse basketball faces a crowded field for 2025 five-star big man Chris Cenac Jr.

Per 247Sports, Cenac's offer list has expanded to at least 30 suitors. Since his 'Cuse offer was noted, others who have offered him a scholarship, per Cenac's X page, include two-time defending national champion UConn, Oregon, Southern California, Arkansas, Georgia, Georgetown, Michigan State, UCLA, Michigan and Kentucky.

Syracuse men’s basketball: Donnie Freeman projected as first-round pick in ESPN’s first 2025 mock draft (TNIAAM; Chiappone)
With the 2024 NBA Draft now gone, attention is already going to next year with one notable Syracuse Orange men’s basketball player beginning on a strong note.

Donnie Freeman — a consensus five-star recruit and All-American player — is projected to go No. 15 overall to the Indiana Pacers in ESPN’s first mock for the 2025 NBA Draft. The mock draft is the first ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo has published.

Freeman’s stock as a prospect continued to grow throughout the spring, and it’s a promising sign as Syracuse’s most promising addition will look to make an immediate impact for the program during the 2024 season.

For context, this is a significant leap for Freeman. In a previous 2025 NBA mock draft from ESPN, which was released back in February, Freeman’s name did not appear at all.

Since then, Freeman made notable leaps across the board on pretty much all of the class of 2024 prospect rankings among the major recruiting sites.

He is currently a five-star prospect on ESPN, On3, 247Sports and Rivals. Both ESPN and On3 currently have Freeman ranked No. 6 overall among the class of 2024, while Rivals and 247Sports placed him at No. 11 and No. 15 overall, respectively.

Momentum for Freeman particularly grew in April, where he was able to showcase some of his potential during an All-American game practice. Reporters at other outlets are clearly invested as well in what Freeman can bring to the table for Syracuse.

Obviously, a mock draft in late-June is months early before the 2025 draft, or even when the Orange will take the court for the 2024-25 season. A lot can happen between now and then, but this latest mock draft certainly is a very promising sign of what Freeman could bring to the program next year.

Dior Johnson, troubled former top recruit who decommitted from Syracuse in 2020, is headed to UCF (report) (PS; $; Carlson)
Dior Johnson, who decommitted from both Syracuse and Oregon as a coveted prospect and left Pittsburgh after pleading guilty to misdemeanor domestic violence charges, will play for Central Florida next season, according to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

Rothstein attributed the news to an anonymous source.

Johnson will play for UCF after spending last season at Clarendon College, a junior college in Clarendon, Texas. He led all junior college players in scoring last season, averaging 29.7 points per game.

Born in Kingston (New York) and a former player at Saugerties High School, Johnson was ranked among the 15 best players in the Class of 2022 when he committed to Syracuse in 2020.

Even while Johnson was committed to the Orange there were doubts that he would ever play for SU. He switched high schools repeatedly over the course of his youth.

When Johnson de-committed from Syracuse later in 2020, former Orange coach Jim Boeheim said that the program hadn’t been committed to accepting Johnson either.

‘We haven’t lost anybody that I committed to come to Syracuse,” Boeheim said in November of 2020.

After Johnson decommitted from the Orange he performed a similar reversal at Oregon, ultimately attending Pittsburgh instead.

Johnson never played a game with the Panthers. Johnson pled guilty to misdemeanor charges of simple assault and strangulation in December of 2022. The agreement followed an incident involving a woman in Pittsburgh. Additional charges of felony aggravated assault charge and misdemeanor charges of unlawful restraint and false imprisonment were dismissed by a judge.

Post Malone’s Syracuse concert sold out already: See cheapest tickets you can get (PS; Herbert)
Syracuse native Post Malone’s homecoming concert is pretty much sold out already — though you can still get tickets if you’re willing to pay up.

The “I Had Some Help” singer will perform at the Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview on Saturday, Sept. 14. No opening act has been named for the concert, which will begin at 8 p.m.

Tickets went on sale Monday morning and were gone quickly. The lawn and pit are both completely sold out, and less than 10 standard (non-Platinum) pavilion seats are still available through Live Nation, ranging in price from $402.60 to $1,123.20.

But you can still get tickets through Live Nation’s Verified Fan Resale program or through resellers like VividSeats, StubHub, TicketNetwork or SeatGeek. Some are listed as high as $5,563 (including fees) due to high demand.

Here are the cheapest tickets available as of 8 a.m. Tuesday:

  • Live Nation Verified Fan Resale starting at $392.19 for pavilion (including fees)
  • VividSeats starting at $185.53 for lawn, $356.05 for pavilion (including fees)
  • StubHub starting at $189 for lawn, $365 for pavilion (including fees)
  • TicketNetwork starting at $214.84 for lawn, $421.82 for pavilion (including fees)
  • SeatGeek starting at $177 for lawn, $341 for pavilion (including fees)
Note: Prices and availability are subject to change. Outside lawn chairs will not be allowed for the concert.

Post Malone tickets are more expensive than any previous concert at the Syracuse amphitheater, including Shania Twain’s sold-out performance in 2023. Six years ago, Luke Bryan was the first artist to price all pavilion seats at $100 or more for the venue; his $39 lawn seats were considered pricey at the time. By comparison, Malone’s lawn tickets sold for $90, and everything under the pavilion cost hundreds of dollars more.

Then again, this will be Malone’s first Central New York concert since a 2015 performance at Syracuse University when he was an up-and-coming rapper best known for the breakout single, “White Iverson.”

Posty is now an internationally famous singer and rapper known for No. 1 hits like “Circles,” “Rockstar,” “Psycho,” and “Sunflower,” plus collaborations with big names like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Tiesto, Lil Wayne, Noah Kahan, DJ Khaled, and Ozzy Osbourne. He’s also planning to release his first country album, featuring songs with Morgan Wallen and Blake Shelton, and said the Syracuse concert will emphasize his new sound.

“I love y’all so very much and I’m so excited to get out and play new music for you,” he said in a statement.

Malone was born Austin Richard Post on July 4, 1995, in Syracuse, N.Y. He lived in Central New York until he was 10, when his family moved to Texas because his father was offered a job working for the Dallas Cowboys. He currently lives in Utah, but his family still owns a home in Baldwinsville.

‘SNL,’ ‘It's Always Sunny’ stars filming new American High movie in Syracuse area (PS; $; Herbert)

“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Charlie Day and two “Saturday Night Live” cast members will be in a new American High movie filming in the Syracuse area.

“Summer of ‘69,” a new teen comedy directed by Jillian Bell (“Brittany Runs a Marathon”), shoots this month through the Liverpool-based film studio and will be released on Hulu. Recent casting calls sought local residents to fill hundreds of roles and share vintage cars.

Deadline reports the cast will include Day (also known for roles in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Pacific Rim”); “SNL” stars Alex Moffat and Chloe Fineman; Sam Morelos (”That ‘90s Show”); Natalie Morales (”Parks and Recreation”); Liza Koshy (”A Family Affair”); Nicole Byer (”Nailed It!”); “Paula Pell (”Girls5Eva”); Matt Cornett (”High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”); Fernando Carsa (”Acapulco”); and Amalia Yoo (”Grand Army”). Morales previously directed “Plan B” for American High, one of the first movies shot in Central New York after the Covid pandemic.

According to the logline, “Summer of ‘69″ centers on Abby, who discovers her high school crush’s favorite sexual position is 69 and hires a local stripper for help. But when Abby realizes she may not be ready to take things to the next level, she learns that she’s gained so much more — a sense of self and a lifelong friend.

The project will be the feature-length directorial debut for Bell, an actress whose credits include “22 Jump Street,” “Brittany Runs a Marathon,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Good Burger 2,” “Workaholics,” “Godmothered,” “Eastbound & Down,” “Office Christmas Party,” “Idiotsitter,” “American Dad!” and “Bill & Ted Face the Music.” She also appeared in “Murder Mystery 2,” directed by American High founder Jeremy Garelick.

Bell, who was previously nominated for an Emmy for writing on “Saturday Night Live,” co-wrote the script with Liz Nico and Jules Byrne, according to Deadline.

“It’s always been my dream to direct and I am thrilled to be telling a story about female friendship with a cast of the most talented and funny humans,” Bell told Deadline.

Shared amenities will include a 24-hour fitness center, sauna, study areas and a large outdoor hot tub. The community will also feature a 220-space parking garage for resident use. Current plans for the building call for the transformation of the space into a gathering area. Landmark Construction, the in-house general contractor for Landmark Properties, will manage construction of the project, a timeline for which was not provided.
