Predictions for 2014-15 SU Basketball (sujuiceonline.com; Stechschulte)

This current crop of the Orange bears some resemblance to the 2009-2010 team. That group lost its top three scorers from the previous year and subsequently carried lower expectations into the season, as it barely was ranked entering the season and predicted to finish sixth in their conference. That SU team, however, had a lot more experience returning, not to mention impact transfer Wes Johnson.

This year’s version lacks that degree of experienced players, but it is still getting a strong influx of young talent. As college basketball has shifted on the whole to a world where freshmen routinely play for top programs, putting reasonable expectations on the shoulders of young, inexperienced teams is accepted.

Where to Find the Best Sandwiches in CNY (PS; Domin)

...
Here are 10 places -- in random order -- to grab great sandwiches:

Darwin
• 211 N Clinton St., Syracuse, 373-0484
See the menu

The name is a nod to co-owner Daryl McGrew's nickname, but it also works because Darwin's menu is "always evolving." That means you'll find a different menu each week, but whatever is "on the board" is bound to be good. These aren't simple deli sandwiches. Chicken, roast beef, turkey and other meats and vegetarian options are dressed up with toppings such as pineapple salsa, Utica greens, frizzled red onions and horseradish mayonnaise. Drawing inspiration from well-known sandwiches around the country, Darwin counts the muffuletta, a New Orleans staple, as its signature sandwich. It's served on bread from DiLauro's bakery, while other sandwiches come on Pastabilities stretch bread, two more touches that make lunch at Darwin such a delight.

The Blue Tusk
• 165 Walton St., Syracuse, 472-1934
See the menu

One of the area's tastiest takes on pork is the Bangkok Pig atThe Blue Tusk: pulled pork, Thai-style peanut sauce, cilantro, red onion, romaine lettuce and mayonnaise on a round roll. The Armory Square restaurant masterfully mixes ingredients on about two dozen sandwiches and paninis, and patrons can also build their own deli sandwiches. Of course, you can do that lots of places -- for something more memorable, try the lobster BLT or meatball panini.

Brooklyn Pickle
• 1600 W Genesee St., Syracuse, 487-8000; 2222 Burnet Ave., Syracuse, 463-1851
See the menu

Any conversation about Syracuse's best sandwiches inevitably includes mention of the Brooklyn Pickle.

Add Welcome Inn on the Westside for their Rueben and Sorrento's in North Syracuse for their Steak Sandwich.

I wrote a little bit about Kennesaw Mountain State. It got a little weird. http://.com/its-game-day-orange-nation/
