Despite Post-Season Ban, Syracuse Has Something Left to Play For (sujuiceonline.com; Marcus)

Okay. Syracuse has self-imposed a postseason ban for themselves. No NCAAs, NIT, ACC tourney.

Who knows what the fate of this year’s team would have been. But this decision shouldn’t make the players take their feet off the gas.

After Syracuse’s most recent close call, a 72-70 win against Virginia Tech on Tuesday, ‘Cuse alum and ESPN’s Mike Tirico tweeted this: “@miketirico: Really appreciate this @Cuse_MBB team. They are giving us all they have every game.”

Can’t argue there. This team has fight in it. But I wonder, did teams of the past few years have fight in them too? Maybe it just wasn’t noticeable and wasn’t as appreciated because they were better and won by more.

MAKE THE CASE: 2015 ACC PLAYER OF THE YEAR CANDIDATES (TheACC)

Rakeem Christmas is a physical specimen, and he is statistically worthy of this award. The numbers pretty much speak for themselves, as Christmas is nearly averaging a double-double. Christmas ranks fourth in the ACC in PER, third in Win Shares and second in block percentage.

If it weren’t for his team’s surprisingly mediocre record, Rakeem Christmas would be near the top of this list. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to witness the greatness of Rakeem Christmas in tournament play. We’ll just have to appreciate the remaining games he has left.

Experimental rules to be used during 2015 NIT include 30-second shot clock (NCAA)

Men’s basketball teams selected to play in the 2015 Postseason NIT will compete using experimental rules, including a 30-second shot clock and a four-foot restricted-area arc. The rules will be in effect for all 31 games of the tournament.

The shot clock in men’s basketball is now 35 seconds, where it has remained since the 1993-94 season, and the restricted-area arc extends three feet from the center of the basket.

The shot clock is being reduced by five seconds in the 32-team NIT field to see what effect it will have on pace of play and scoring. The restricted-area arc is being extended a foot to determine whether that change reduces the number of collisions under the basket...
