SU Athletic Department Works to Clear Up Confusion About Battle 4 Atlantis Tickets (PS; Ditota)
Syracuse basketball fans interested in buying ticket packages for the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in November were confused this morning when nobody at the university seemed to know how to secure them.
SU announced on Saturday that tickets to the Bahamas basketball tournament would be available today for University donors. They were to receive emails this morning at 9 about how to proceed with the purchase. But when Brett Africk did not receive an email from SU, he called the Orange Club office to inquire.
"Nothing arrived," Africk said in an email, "and the Orange Club has no clue what is going on when I called them."
SU spokesman Pete Moore said university officials are trying to resolve the problem.
"We are working in house to clear things up and plan on distributing information today once the details are together," Moore wrote in an email.

Sports Illustrated Should be Ashamed of Itself for Anointing Kaleb Joseph Something of a Bust (PS; Poliquin)
Thanks to Al Gore, or whoever you think invented the Internet, those in the media have been presented with the impossible daily chore of attempting to fill infinity.
It used to be that most self-respecting outlets practiced what the New York Times preached. But that doesn't easily work here in the 21st century where all the news that's fit to print would amount to a thimbleful of water in the great sea that is our reality in this, the day-in-and-day-out website world.
And so, in our desperation to satisfy what can't be satisfied, we sometimes traffic in dumb stuff, even hurtful stuff. And Sports Illustrated has done both by pinning a scarlet letter to the chest of Kaleb Joseph, the Syracuse University freshman who apparently committed the high athletic crime this past season of not being as good as SI thinks he should have been.
Specifically, it was David Gardner, a staffer at Sports Illustrated, who named Joseph among that outfit's nine most disappointing players in the nation. And never mind, already, that Joseph had been recruited to spend his maiden SU campaign as a backup to Tyler Ennis, who messed up that plan by blowing off the Orange after his rookie season in Syracuse for what may have been a premature shot at the NBA.
So … why?
Why the need to embarrass a well-intentioned kid for his failure to live up to the standards established by somebody sitting at a desk far, far away? Why announce that Joseph — an amateur, remember, who'd begun the year as a teenager — is somehow flawed for having averaged 5.9 points and 3.8 assists in his first go-around in college ball? Why assume the role of judge-and-jury in the matter of someone else's son playing a game against the greatest/oldest/strongest competition he'd ever encountered while presumably juggling a full academic load in an institution of higher learning?

All CNY Forward Nate Knight Will Attend Prep School Next Fall (PS; Weidner)
All-Central New York forward Nate Knight has decided to spend a prep school season at Kimball Union Academy next fall.
The 6-foot-7 Nottingham senior, who led the Bulldogs with 14.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, drew interest from schools such as Canisius, St. Bonaventure, High Point, Davidson, Binghamton and Dartmouth.
But Knight said in a release that a year in prep school would help him academically and physically.
“I won’t turn 18 until next fall, so I was very young for college," he said. "Kimball Union gave me a great opportunity and I am eager to see where this might take me."
Knight is a left-hander who showed an outside shooting touch and good footwork inside for a big man.
Kimball Union plays in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference. Head coach Mike Olson has guided the Wildcats to six consecutive winning seasons and an overall record of 104-56.

Goodbye Johnny's Pizza, Hello Original Italian Pizza (PS; Cazentre)
Johnny's Pizza, which has served Syracuse University area students, faculty and neighbors since the early 1970s, is getting a new name, decor and brand.
And char-grilled wings.
Johnny's, at 104 Julian Place behind the Tops market on Nottingham Road, will close May 18 and reopen six weeks later as the eighth outlet of Original Italian Pizza, a locally owned mini-chain.
OIP bought Johnny's from founders Rosario "Junior" Pace and his wife, Kathy, in April 2014. At the time, OIP owners Joe Crabbe and Roy Amato decided to leave Johnny's as it was, for the most part, honoring its long-standing tradition in the area.
"I know people don't like change,'' Crabbe said. "But this makes sense, OIP is who we are."
OIP will "completely gut" the space and remodel it. "It's a little old and tired looking now," Crabbe said. "It's going to be modern and hip when it reopens."
OIP will add new menu items that Johnny's has not offered, such as steak sandwiches and other hot sandwiches, Crabbe said.
