Welcome to National Watermelon Day!
Today is National Watermelon Day! Watermelon is a delicious summer fruit that has become a staple at family picnics and cookouts. Did you know that watermelons are 92% water? No wonder they’re so refreshing!
There are around 300 different kinds of watermelon in the U.S. and Mexico. You can find red, pink, white, and yellow varieties in various sizes and shapes. Watermelons are usually quite large, and many county fairs award prizes for the biggest ones. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the heaviest watermelon weighed 262 pounds. To learn more interesting watermelon facts, check out www.watermelon.org.
To celebrate National Watermelon Day, have some watermelon for dessert tonight! Slice it up and eat it plain, cook it on the grill, mix it into a salsa, or blend it into a cocktail. Enjoy!

Kassoum is the One without the F14
Maverick Rowan Chooses NC State Over St Johns, SU Remains in Mix for Kassoum Yakwe, a 6'8 2016 PF Looking to Reclassify to 2015 (umbleinthegarden.com; Carcieri)
With two available scholarships remaining, St. John's was looking at 2015 6'6" guard Maverick Rowan to provide depth and talent to an inexperienced backcourt.
Rowan, who's father, Ron, played with Chris Mullin, made his college decision on Sunday afternoon, choosing Mark Gottfried and North Carolina State over St. John's, West Virginia and Louisville.
"Great relationship with the coaches, Gottfried and Orlando Early," the Fort Lauderdale native told ESPN.com and SNY. "They have been loyal and stayed with me through everything this year. Gottfried does a great job for his wings and I feel I can go in and be the same type of player T.J. Warren and Trevor Lacey were."
Rowan was originally a member of the 2016 recruiting class (ranked 30 in ESPN's top 100) but decided to finish his high school classes this summer in order to attend college in September and participate on the court in November.
The guard played his high school basketball at Cardinal Gibbons High School and had a tremendous summer on the Nike circuit with E1T1, averaging 19.2 points per game and shooting 41 percent from the field.
Mullin and the Red Storm remain in the mix for Kassoum Yakwe, who is rated as the 100th prospect in 2016 but is looking to reclassify to 2015. The program will have stiff competition for the shot blocker, as Kansas, Louisville, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, UNLV and Villanova are in the mix for his services.

American Pharoah at Saratoga? NYRA to Raise Travers Purse if Triple Crown Willner Runs (PS; AP)
The New York Racing Association will raise the purse of the $1.25 million Travers Stakes at Saratoga to $1.6 million if Triple Crown winner American Pharoah starts in the race.
The announcement Saturday comes on the heels of Monmouth Park boosting its purse for Sunday's Haskell Invitational from $1 million to $1.75 million on the day American Pharoah arrived at the New Jersey track Wednesday.
Since American Pharoah became the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years by sweeping the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes, tracks all over the country have been devising ways to lure racing's biggest star. The Travers on Aug. 29 is one of several races under consideration by owner Ahmed Zayat for the colt's next start.
