Welcome to National Linguine Day!

Today is Linguine Day! Linguine (often misspelled “Linguini”) is a long, flat, narrow type of pasta. It is most commonly used in seafood or pesto dishes such as linguine alle vongole (“linguine with clams”).

Linguine, which means "little tongues" in Italian, originated in the Liguria region of Italy. Take a moment to imagine you’re there at one of the local trattorias, taking in the wonderful aromas of good, hearty pasta dishes!

Have a favorite linguine dish? Serve it tonight in honor of National Linguine Day!

Former SU Recruit Moustapha Diagne Arrives at Northwest Florida State (PS; Waters)

Moustapha Diagne was supposed to be a freshman at Syracuse University this fall.

But the 6-foot-9 forward from Senegal by way of Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta, N.J., encountered some academic issues that prevented him from enrolling at Syracuse.

After navigating the governmental red tape necessary to acquire a new student visa, Diagne returned from Senegal to his host family's home in New Jersey last Friday. On Sunday, he traveled to Florida where he intended to enroll at a junior college.

On Monday, Diagne began classes at Northwest Florida State College, which is located just east of Pensacola in Niceville, Fla.

"He got here last night,'' Northwest Florida State coach Steve DeMeo said Monday afternoon. "He was in class today. He's taking a physical right now and we're going to get him on the court later today.''

While it might be expected that Diagne would be disappointed at not being at Syracuse, DeMeo said Diagne was excited to be at the Florida junior college.

"He seemed excited and happy to get back over here and to be in college,'' DeMeo said. "He didn't seem apprehensive or anything like that.''
