Welcome to National Button Day!

Button Day is a fun day to collect, use, and just enjoy buttons. Button come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, colors and designs. There is an amazingly endless variety of buttons for your collection.

But, wait a minute... is that the meaning of this day!? Maybe, the purpose of this day is to wear buttons. You know, those diverse buttons that send a message for political purposes. Or, ones that have funny sayings. Or, a button with a smiley face to cheer everyone up.

The origins of this day are unknown. So, we can't be certain to the real meaning of this day.

And, that could be a good thing. It means you can celebrate today in anyway you want. Here are our suggestions. I suspect you may have more...

  • Button Collecting and Display Day - collect and display clothing buttons
  • Button Up Day- 'cuz it's cold outside!
  • Pushing Your Buttons Day - you're kidding me, aren't you!?
  • Belly Button Day - now, here's one that could be real fun
  • Belly Button Fuzz Day - it's amazing what you find in there.
  • Wear Buttons Day - skip the political buttons. My favorite is a Smiley button.

Tyler Roberson Took a Step Backward in Orange's Win Over Lehigh (PS; Waters)

Tyler Roberson appeared to take a couple steps forward in Syracuse's two exhibition games, but in the Orange's regular-season opener against Lehigh on Friday, the junior forward to one huge step back.

In SU's two exhibition games, Roberson averaged 9.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. He made eight of his 14 field goal attempts. And he put up those numbers while playing just 25 minutes per contest.

But in the Orange's game against Lehigh on Friday, Roberson disappeared. As Syracuse's perimeter players dominated the game with 34 attempts from 3-point range, Roberson barely made a dent in the stat sheet. He finished the game with no points, attempted just three shots and managed just five rebounds.

"I didn't see much tonight,'' Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said when assessing Roberson's contributions after the game. That's all Boeheim said about Roberson, uttering one word for each rebound that Roberson got.

Syracuse still beat Lehigh, 57-47, despite but after the game, Roberson's performance created some concern.

"Everybody's needed on this team,'' SU senior Michael Gbinije said. "Everybody's got a role to play. For us to be successful, especially in the ACC, we're going to need Roberson. He's one our tough guys, one of our best rebounders and inside scorers. He can hit the mid-range, too. We're going to need him.'

Flashback - 1986 Syracuse vs St Bonaventure Basketball (cnycentral.com; Malnoske)

With St. Bonaventure coming to the Carrier Dome to take on Syracuse men's hoops this Tuesday night, we go back to archives for a special WSTM flashback.

This time, we go back to 1986-87 season when Syracuse battled St. Bonaventure in December of that year. The Orange emerged victorious that night, 66-52, Sherman Douglas poured in 20 points to lead SU.

Syracuse was led by Douglas, Rony Seikaly and upstart Derrick Coleman and the team made it all the way to the 1987 NCAA Championship game.

Ultimately, the Orange fell to Bobby Knight's Indiana Hoosiers in the final seconds of play as Keith Smart hit the game-winning shot for the national crown.

The Syracuse of today will battle the Bonnies Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at The Carrier Dome. Take a look back at this classic footage with two interviews with head coach Jim Boeheim and Seikaly as they discuss having some height, along with Coleman, in the paint.
