Welcome to National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day!
National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, which is observed annually in the United States on December 7, is to remember and honor the 2,403 victims who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. On August 23, 1994, United States Congress, by Pub.L. 103–308, designated December 7 of each year as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.[1] National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is also referred to as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day or Pearl Harbor Day. It is a tradition to fly the Flag of the United States at half-staff until sunset in honor of dead patriots.[2]

SU Hoops: Fun with Advanced Statisticws (Week 2; TNIAAM; Burke)
In recent weeks, it's been difficult to determine which trends relating to Syracuse were legitimate and which were purely coincidental in a small sample size, since the season was extremely young. But as we surpass the halfway point of the Orange's non-conference schedule, it's becoming easier to know what numbers and statistics to put stock into.
This week, we delve into some of that by looking at more plus-minus numbers, the effectiveness of Tyler Lydon, Syracuse's transition offense and more.
Plus-Minus Statistics
Against Georgetown, Syracuse lineups featuring Tyler Roberson at power forward and Lydon at center were most effective, finishing plus-9 on the day. The often-used lineup of Michael Gbinije, Trevor Cooney, Malachi Richardson, Roberson and Lydon went plus-5. When Howard was in the game for Richardson, SU went plus-4.
So how did the Orange still manage to lose by seven? Their starting lineup of Gbinije, Cooney, Richardson, Roberson and Coleman finished minus-11. That lineup was minus-2 against Wisconsin and is now minus-6 on the season.
Meanwhile, lineups with Roberson and Lydon manning the frontcourt are now plus-37 this season. Lineups with Lydon and Coleman in the froncourt without Roberson are plus-5.
With that data, it certainly appears that Syracuse is at its best with four-out lineups; lineups featuring four capable shooters and only one big man who doesn't operate outside of the paint. And so far, Roberson — with his ability to rebound, shift his feet on defense and set effective screens — has proven himself to be a better option than Coleman.

Playing Strong: Coleman and Howard Making Strides for SU Hoops (cnycentral.com; Malnoske)
Syracuse men's basketball dropped its second straight game on Saturday afternoon. The Orange, who lost their first contest of the season versus Wisconsin at home on Wednesday, fell to Georgetown in a highly anticipated rematch of two former Big East rivals, 79-72.
Without coach Jim Boeheim, who served the first of a 9-game suspension due to NCAA infractions, Syracuse rallied around interim coach Bill Hopkins. Two players, shined in spite of the losing effort and hope that momentum will translate into wins on the court.
DaJuan Coleman, a Jamesville-DeWitt graduate and senior for the Orange, has been hampered by injuries throughout his time with Syracuse. Getting stronger each game, Coleman put up a season-high 10 points for Syracuse and threw down a dunk showcasing his increased agility.
The play of Coleman will be absolutely crucial for the Orange as they prepare for the bulk of conference play and his 6'9" presence is vital in the center of the tough Syracuse 2-3 zone.
Another player who showed promise on Saturday was freshman guard Franklin Howard. The young talent recorded 13 minutes of play off the bench for the Orange, scoring 4 points and adding 2 assists.

Georgetown 79, SU 72:: Reactions from Hop and Players (TNIAAM; Burke)
Mike Hopkins stared at the table in front of him and didn't speak. After several seconds, he looked up, his eyes full of tears, to answer a reporter who had asked what it was like to not have Jim Boeheim on the sideline.
"I wanted this one for him," Hopkins said.
With Boeheim suspended for the first of nine games, Hopkins took his place as the team's head coach for the first time on Saturday and was emotional after Syracuse's 79-72 loss to Georgetown. But SU's players were complimentary of Hopkins' performance in the role, with some of them saying that nothing felt different.
Three minutes after Hopkins became teary-eyed the first time, he again got choked up when a reporter asked how difficult it was to be without Boeheim.
"Imagine if, all of a sudden, someone came and said you couldn't talk to your father for a month and you live down the street," he said before pausing to gather himself. "That's tough."
There were some marginal differences in this game in comparison to Syracuse's previous seven games. Most notably, Hopkins played freshman point guard Franklin Howard for 13 minutes, which surpassed his previous season-high of nine minutes.
