Welcome to National Joygerm Day!
Founded by Syracuse Native Joan White 35 years ago...
Happy JoyGerm Day! January 8, 2015 is the 35st annual celebration of JoyGerm Day. As the holidays have ended and winter colds are everywhere, JoyGerm Day encourages all of us to share the best germ out there – joy!
We all know yawns are contagious, but smiles and laughs can be caught just as easily. Next time you go grocery shopping, look, smile, and nod at everyone you meet. You will be surprised at how many catch the JoyGerm from you and smile right back.
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones.

What is the Path for SU Basketball to Get to the NCAA Tournament? (the juice; Irvine)
Syracuse’s season is not going great. This much we know.
Even with Coach Boeheim returning to the sideline in Saturday’s tilt against No. 6 North Carolina, the Orange has its work cut out to get back to the Big Dance. Here’s how SU could do it.
First, let’s take stock of where the team is. Syracuse has fallen beyond mention in the “Next Four Out” in Joe Lunardi’s latest Bracketology projection. It is ranked 74th in the RPI with the 72nd best strength of schedule, a number that will improve as conference play continues. The Orange fares slightly better in Ken Pomeroy’s rankings at No. 69.
This is actually not too far from preseason projections. Before the season, many predicted the Orange would finish with between 18-22 wins, implying 11-13 losses. At 10-6, SU is trending toward the bottom end of that range but it is hardly out of reach. It only feels worse than it is because the Battle for Atlantis raised expectations by several pegs – that and the terrible loss to St. John’s (RPI No. 186).
Syracuse has yet to be blown out of a game. This team will be competitive regardless of the opponent. Ironically, the only loss that was not winnable inside 3 minutes remaining was St. John’s.
So what does Syracuse need to do to overcome such a bad loss? It’s actually not as much as you might think. Lunardi’s current “Last Team In” is Monmouth, which has two losses that are just as bad to Canisius (RPI No. 176) and Army (RPI No. 191). The reason Monmouth would be in the Tournament is its four quality wins: at UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, and at Georgetown.

Jim Boeheim Literally Didn't Waste a Second Getting Back to Work (TNIAAM; Keeley)
Jim Boeheim's suspended ended at 12:01 a.m. He met with the team at 12:02 a.m.
When word broke that Jim Boeheim's NCAA-mandated suspension was up at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, the joke was that practice begins at 12:02 a.m.
Turns out, it wasn't a joke at all.
Like clockwork, the 71-year-old Boeheim met with his team at the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center just after the stroke of midnight Tuesday, a couple hours after Clemson had beaten his Orange by 1 point in overtime, about a minute after his monthlong hiatus from the team officially ended.
"He had his coat on about 11:30, waiting," Boeheim's wife, Juli, said Thursday. "He didn't want to be there too early. He met with the team and just kind of got things rolling again."
Our question is...how did the coaches and players know Boeheim wanted to meet with if he couldn't speak with any of them? We took some guesses...
"Ocean's 11 style. Slid up to each in disguise and just left an envelope" - Pregler
"They have a secret beeper system since boeheim still doesn't get how texting works." - Pregler
"Jimmy B definitely planted hydraulic semaphores outside of Melo and his home to code in the first practice." - Szuba
