Welcome to National Crayola Crayon Day!

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet…no, we’re not talking about a rainbow, but rather just some of the 400 different shades of crayon colours Crayola has produced since 1903! What a perfect opportunity to celebrate its bright and colourful addition to the world with Crayola Crayon Day!

Crayola began its life as a company when cousins Edwin Binney and C. Harold Smith took over a pigment business in 1885 that Edwin’s father owned. Since then, they have produced a core set of 120 crayon colours; but they have also come out with many unique sets; including metallic coloured crayons, gem tones colours, and even scented ones.

So, why not let your inner child out on Crayola Crayon Day? Find a colouring book and a box of Crayola crayons, and get to work? It’s a therapeutic and enjoyable way to pass some time, and you can even hang your finished picture on your fridge when you’re done!

Highlights From Wednesday Morning Practice (scout; Ferguson)

As they say in Hollywood, "That's a wrap." Well not entirely, as the Orange still have one more portion left to their Spring Training regiment. SU will play its Spring Football Game on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Carrier Dome. 'Cuse Nation will finally get its first official look at the squad under Head Coach Dino Babers, and potentially get a flavor for the kind of the team that will take the field this fall. As it has been said all along, the pace with which this program will be playing at on both sides of the ball is fast. The players and coaching staff have been working for a little over a month refining and developing both a new playbook and new philosophy. It is hard to translate practice performance with future game results, but with newly defined goals and aspirations the Orange will certainly be looking to flip the script on recent seasons' results. Today's final practice session open to the media featured much of the same drills that have been viewed throughout the Spring season, but here are a few takeaways from the Ensley Athletic Center this morning:

Does Saturday Have Room for the SU Spring Football Game AND the Men's Final Four? (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

Oh, here's a problem no one thought about (and you can't really blame them there).

Back in February, we learned that the Syracuse Orange spring football game would take place on April 2. A host of other activities have been released since, and it looks like it's going to be an exciting day for SU fans anxious for the Dino Babers era to start.

... Or that was the plan, until the SU men's basketball team made the Final Four. Their opening game (as you know) takes place on Saturday night against North Carolina in far-away Houston. The Syracuse women's team, also in their own Final Four, plays on Sunday night against Washington in closer-by (but still not close) Indianapolis. Is anyone sensing a bit of a problem?

For all the (rightfully) expected fanfare at the football game, the one thing no one planned on was a good portion of fans either in Houston already or prepping for watching the Final Four later that day. No, the 11 a.m. ET start doesn't really interfere with the games, but if you're hosting a party and live 20-25 minutes from campus, perhaps your mind's elsewhere that morning. I know, I know... this sounds like I'm excusing people. And to be honest, maybe I am.

Boy George and Culture Club to Perform Free Show at NYS Fair's Chevy Court (PS; Herbert)

Break out your '80s fashion for one night at the 2016 New York State Fair.

The reunited Culture Club, featuring lead singer Boy George, will perform a free show at Chevy Court on Friday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. It's the British band's first appearance ever at the Great New York State Fair.

"This is a rare chance to see them live in Upstate New York," NYS Fair Acting Director Troy Waffner said Thursday.

The group, best known for new wave rock hits like "Karma Chameleon," "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me," and "I'll Tumble For Ya," split in 1986 amid legal troubles for Boy George. The androgynous frontman eventually forged a solo career, later finding success as a DJ and, more recently, a reality star on shows like "The Voice UK" and "Celebrity Apprentice" later this year.

He reunited with band members Mikey Craig, Roy Hay and Jon Moss for several shows over the years, but finally did a full tour last year. The original lineup, together for the NYS Fair show, is also working on "Tribes," its first album of original music in 17 years, to be released later this year.

When Steven Clark decided early last year to accept a scholarship to play football at Syracuse, he knew a little about the school’s reputation in basketball.

It was one factor - albeit a very small one - that helped him decide to leave the South for the Northeast.

On Sunday, he got a crash course in Orange basketball, and he loved every second of it - even if he did give up on the men’s team.

Several of Clark’s teammates and new friends gathered at his apartment Sunday evening to watch Syracuse’s 10th-seeded men’s team play No. 1 seed Virginia in an Elite Eight game. Virginia controlled the game for nearly 30 minutes, so much so that Clark turned the channel. The Orange, which trailed by 16 at the half, was trailing by 15 at the time, 54-39.

A few minutes later, Clark noticed on twitter that Syracuse had made a dent in Virginia’s lead. He quickly turned the channel - and just in time. Syracuse scored 25 of 29 points, including 15 in a row, delighting a campus and a Southern boy who’s starting to warm to life in the North.

“It was wild,” Clark said Monday. “They were getting beat the entire game then they literally just took off.

“That guy (Malachi Richardson) just went crazy.”

Richardson went crazy and then some. The freshman scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half, and Syracuse extended its improbable run from the bubble to the Final Four in Houston with a 68-62 victory.

Syracuse is the first No. 10 seed to reach the Final Four and the fourth double-digit seed to make it. It’s the lowest-seeded team to reach the Final Four since No. 11 VCU in 2011.

To make the day even sweeter, the Syracuse women defeated Tennessee to also reach the Final Four. They’ll play Washington in one semifinal on Sunday.

The Syracuse men will play the only No. 1 seed remaining in the tournament, North Carolina, in Saturday’s nightcap. The first game will pit Villanova against Oklahoma.

Clark said as crazy as Sunday was, this coming weekend will be even more exciting to Syracuse fans.

“It’s going to be really crazy here this weekend,” he said. “We play our spring game Saturday morning, then the basketball team plays the No. 1 team Saturday night.

“Now, we have to do the same thing football.”

As for football, Clark said this spring under new head coach Dino Babers has been eye-opening, to say the least.

“It’s definitely different,” he said. “It’s a faster pace. We do a lot more running in practice.

“That’s where the conditioning is done - in practice.”

Special anniversary

In celebration of the 50th anniversary, ESPN will present Texas Western’s historic victory in the 1966 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament Championship Game at 6:30 p.m. today.

The Miners’ 72-65 win against the Kentucky Wildcats became a watershed moment in sports history because it was the first time a college basketball team started five African-American players in the sport’s title game.

“Making History: The 1966 NCAA Championship - Texas Western vs. Kentucky” is a 90-minute presentation featuring the audio call of Walt Sullivan and will contain every basket that took place inside Cole Field House in College Park, Md., on March 19, 1966.
