Welcome to World Wide Web Day!

How did WWW Day begin? The creators of the World Wide Web posted a summary on an online newsgroup about how the project worked in August 6, 1991. Then the first time World Wide Web was available for users was on August 23, 1991.

Since both events happened in August these were put together to remember the birth of the World Wide Web. What will people do on WWW Day?

Observing WWW day will involve going online for various things. It can be emailing, chatting or simple surfing. It can also be business-related or personal. People also watch movies online. This way they can enjoy the benefits of not having to buy cd’s but just downloading or visiting a website like YouTube. They can visit blogs or create blogs on that day to remind them of the usefulness of the internet. A visit to a technological museum and watching a documentary about WWW day can be done. Conventions, concerts and the like can be organized on that day then advertisements, registrations and a show can all be viewed and done online. Even simple house parties can be done and the foods served are collected from websites. Anyone can think of creative ways to let other people know how great of an invention the World Wide Web is.

Syracuse football preseason storylines, No. 4: Will the playmakers step up (DO; Mettus)

There’s a lot of hype surrounding Dino Babers’ no-huddle spread offense that will be on display this season. After all, “orange is the new fast.” But its success will not only hinge upon execution of the plays, but also the development of a few playmakers.

Starting with the quarterback, Eric Dungey has the ability to make things happen with both his arm and legs. He already said the scramble-happy freshman version of himself will be left in the past. So now the pressure is on to produce with accuracy from the pocket.

SU needs its biggest playmakers to show up in the passing game. The most likely candidates are wide receivers Steve Ishmael, Brisly Estime and Ervin Philips. Last season, Babers’ Bowling Green squad had a receiver with more than 1,500 yards and three that had at least 950 yards. Ishmael was SU’s top guy with 570.

Ishmael has been old reliable for the Orange. He hasn’t missed a game over the last two seasons and has produced solid numbers each year. The challenge for him will be adjusting to the load that this new offense will place on his shoulders.

Estime’s and Philips’ mixtures of speed and agility from the inside receiver spots put them in prime positions to get the ball in space and make big plays. Each, however, have their challenges to overcome.

Former offensive coordinator George McDonald’s no-huddle offense was supposed to be perfect for Estime in 2014, but Estime spent most of the year injured and said the offense was hard to learn. Philips will have to adjust from a hybrid position that was tailor-made for him to simply being a receiver.

Recruiting Roundup: 2017 Florida tight end Aaron Hackett commits to Syracuse (the juice; Cheng)

Good luck to former Syracuse guard Michael Gbinije as he leads Team Nigeria against Team USA! On to today’s recruiting links…

Aaron Hackett, a three-star tight end from Venice (Fla.) announced his commitment to Syracuse over the weekend on Twitter. The 2017 prospect was visiting Syracuse, and chose them over offers from Louisville, USF and Florida Atlantic, among others.

However, Syracuse lost out on Potomac running back Tayon Fleet-Davis, when the 2017 prospect committed to Maryland, according to his high school team’s Twitter. He was also weighing offers from Syracuse, Iowa and Indiana. He is rated three stars by 247 Sports.

2017 Ben Davis (Ind.) defensive end Esezi Otomewo is taking a visit to Syracuse, reports At their request, this network is being blocked from this site.’s Mike McAllister. He is rated two stars, and holds offers from Iowa State, Buffalo and Miami (OH) among others.

Syracuse football preseason storylines, No. 5: Replacing Riley Dixon (DO; Schneidman)

If there’s one downside to Syracuse football in 2016, it’s that the Orange doesn’t have a clear-cut Heisman contender anymore. Riley Dixon is gone. Press the panic button.

In all seriousness, Dixon was an extremely valuable weapon for SU amid all the hoopla of his faux Heisman campaign and fake-punt antics. He’s actually doing pretty well with the Denver Broncos, it seems, after the reigning Super Bowl runners-up took him in the seventh round of the NFL Draft.

Dixon’s likely heir as punter is redshirt freshman Sterling Hofrichter, who is listed at 5-foot-9 and 181 pounds on the post-spring depth chart. He’s also the only punter listed on the depth chart. Hofrichter was recruited for his big leg by Scott Shafereven though his stature may not indicate it. Don’t expect too vast of a drop-off.

Last season, Dixon averaged 43.68 yards per punt with 18 punts traveling 50 or more yards. He downed 28 of his 65 punts inside the 20-yard line and even ran for 29 yards on three rushes, the most memorable mad dash coming against LSU when he hurdled Kevin Toliver on a fake field goal and proceeded to inadvertently punch another Tiger in the head while celebrating.

Don’t expect such fanfare with Hofrichter, rather a steady leg from the first-year field player as he takes the reigns from the fan favorite. Especially with SU’s dismal defense last year, Dixon’s ability to give the defense ample field position to work with might have bailed it out even more.

There are holes on that side of the ball again, so Hofrichter’s role will be just as important in his first sniff at playing time.

Get To Know Your Orange Man - No. 28, DB Christopher Fredrick (TNIAAM; Dickinson)

The defensive back looks for playing time after a redshirt season.
Name: Christopher Fredrick
Position: Defensive Back
Year: Freshman (Redshirt)
Height: 5-11
Weight: 189 lbs.
Hometown: Conley, Georgia
High School: Cedar Grove
2015 Stats: Frederick redshirted last season with the Orange, which was his first on campus. He has yet to see the field for SU.
2016 Projections: Fredrick is listed as the third cornerback (of three) on Syracuse's post-spring depth chart behind redshirt junior Corey Winfield and redshirt senior Wayne Morgan. Don't expect much playing time for Fredrick this year, but an injury here or there could get him on the field.
How'd He Get Here: Fredrick had offers from Minnesota, Mississippi State, Cincinnati and others. He turned down all of them to come to Syracuse, and made his commitment without even taking a visit to SU.

From the Obstructed Seats :: The Obstructed Preview of the ACC (and Notre Dame)-2016 (sportsblog.com)

The ACC Conference.....the conference where it has been mostly famed for basketball with Duke, UNC, Syracuse, Louisville, etc. And in regards to college football it is lately considered as the Florida State/Clemson Conference (as you have seen the last 5 conference championships won by one or the other). So as I mentioned before in my other football post if there is anybody who could end that streak, (go to it if you haven't), is there anybody who could actually bring down the high and mighty Tigers or the high and mighty Seminoles? To that is, anything is possible, but this year, I am not so sure.

I am also including Notre Dame to this as well despite not being a part of the actual conference but shares an "allegiance" to the conference. But we'll get to the Irish last.

So the questions are: will somebody bring down Florida State or Clemson? Who rises out of the ACC Coastal? Who will be the surprise team this year? Who will be the first to "go?"

Sources Say Big 12 Moving Towards Expansion (horns digest; Brown)

"There's definitely movement," one source close to the situation told HornsDigest. "And the movement is all in the direction of expansion."

As I've reported, Cincinnati, Houston and BYU have been the most talked-about expansion candidates - almost from the moment the Big 12 Board of Directors voted to "actively evaluate" two to four expansion candidates on July 19.

And it appears Memphis may be emerging as the fourth, sources said - if eight votes on the 10-member Big 12 board of presidents and chancellors are indeed there to grow by four. And that's a big if.

FedEx has said it would sponsor the Big 12's new football title game (beginning in 2017), if Memphis is added to the Big 12.

One source put the odds of the B12 adding four at "60-40" over the possibility of adding two.

I'm told Texas officials are reluctant to consider adding more than two full members.

I was also told Texas was unlikely to agree to an extension of the league's Tier 1 & 2 TV rights and grant of rights (which grant a school's TV rights back to the conference) beyond their current 2025 expiration.

Those in the conference hungry for more TV revenue want four more schools - preferably four full members, sources said. Adding four, full-member schools would trigger a contractual obligation in the league's TV contracts requiring ESPN and Fox to pay the Big 12 an additional $80 million to $100 million per year for each of the next eight years, sources told HD.

If the majority of the Big 12 presidents and chancellors want four - and there's no extension of TV rights/GOR - then Texas officials might be willing to go along, sources told HD. If an extension of TV rights/GOR are mandated by TV partners for adding two or four, everything could fall apart, sources said.

Upstate NY vocabulary: 23 essential words, phrases to know (newyorkupstate.com; photo gallery)

Living in Upstate New York requires a little, how shall we say, "understanding" of not only the things we do, the things we eat and the things we drink, but also takes an understanding on the unique way Upstaters identify some of these things. Here is a basic primer of 23 names or phrases for newcomers.

If you hear somebody say that they live in the Tug Hill Plateau area, a few things come to mind: Snow boots, shovels, snowmobiles and school closing days. Upstate has its High Peaks region and its North Country, but the Tug Hill Plateau...well, that is a whole different ball of waxor ball of snow. The Town of Montague recorded a snow dump of 77 inches in a 24hour period once back in 1997. Yes, there is a reason you will find cabins with their front doors on the second story up in Tug Hill.
