Welcome to International Cat Day!

It's all about cats on August 08, 2016 because it's World Cat Day or International Cat Day. It had been proclaimed by the International Fund of Animal Welfare and is coordinated by divers animal welfare organizations all over the world. The goal of the happening is to increase the public's awareness for the needs of cats. The exhortation for species-appropriate keeping and the fighting of neglect and abuse are a major issue, too. On World Cat Day cats receive special delicious food or other gifts that they like.

Cats accompany humans for thousands of years. They are pets, that are not used for any kind of work or economic reasons, which makes the connection between humans and cats so extraordinary. The character of a cat is said to be idiosyncratic, farouche and independent, which makes them hard to train. But nonetheless cats always keep in touch with humans, when they were tamed once und quiet often the connection between the animal owner and the pet is very emotional. Whether this is a one-way love or not caused debates among animal friends. The text "World Cat Day" has been taken from www.cute-calendar.com.

ACC’s interesting alternative to potential nine-game league... | www.ajc.com (ajc.com; Sugiura)

The ACC’s possible expansion to a nine-game conference schedule may be arriving at a decision. The conference’s athletic directors are scheduled to have a conference call Friday and Georgia Tech athletic director Mike Bobinski said Saturday that he expects the issue will be on the agenda.

Speaking at Tech’s media day, Bobinski brought up an intriguing alternative to the nine-game league schedule – keeping the league schedule at eight games but requiring that teams play two non-conference games against power-conference teams. The ACC already has a mandate that goes into effect in 2017 that league teams play one such game.

The impetus for the discussion is the desire to provide inventory for the ACC Network, whose 2019 launch was made official in July. The channel will broadcast 40 regular-season games annually. The conference has already agreed to expand its basketball conference schedule from 18 games to 20, starting in the 2019-20 season.

“I would tell that you that I think we’ll get that decision here in the next couple of weeks because we need to,” Bobinski said. “You can’t put your non-conference schedule on hold forever. You’ve got to be able to move it, so getting the resolution on that’s important.”

Bobinski said that Tech would be in favor of the eight-plus-two model because of its annual game with Georgia and the ACC’s contracted games with Notre Dame. Were the ACC to move to a nine-game league schedule format, Tech would periodically play the nine league games, Georgia and Notre Dame, a rather heavy slate.

Syracuse football: ACC considering '8 Plus 2' scheduling model (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

Yesterday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Ken Sugiura wrote up an article on the ACC's latest football scheduling plan. As we all know, between the divisional issues, Notre Dame and out-of-conference rivalries for many teams, it's been a mess since Syracuse and Pittsburgh joined the league in 2013.

The ACC is trying to fix that mess, but may end up making an even bigger one in the process. The latest idea is an "eight plus two" model.

Sugiura describes the idea, which will be on the agenda when ACC athletic directors meet this Friday, as a way to increase appealing football inventory for the ACC Network. Or at least, that's the thinking of some athletic directors, including Georgia Tech's Mike Bobinski, who Sugiura spoke to for the story.

Right now, most ACC teams schedule at least one non-conference game against a Power 5 opponent (or BYU), and by 2017, all will have to by league mandate. Schools like Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Louisville are already covered on that front with an annual non-conference rivalry game. Five ACC schools per year also play Notre Dame -- a list that has overlap with the aforementioned list some years. So some years, those four schools already have an "eight plus two" setup by way of Notre Dame, and in the years the Fighting Irish aren't on the schedule, most do typically schedule an additional power program.

That sounds fine for playoff contenders. But certainly not for the rest of the ACC's vast middle class. For the majority of the conference, the issues are numerous:

1. Scheduling a second P5 team doesn't increase television inventory
The ACC's move to 20 games in basketball is not universally loved, but is understood as a means to increase inventory for the ACC Network. But forcing every ACC team to schedule an additional P5 opponent doesn't have that same effect (and is supposed to be the point of this games-adding exercise). Any P5 team is going to want a home-and-home. So every other year, the ACC loses a game in their inventory to another league. That game would've otherwise been a bodybag home game, which even if less entertaining, the conference would have possession of.

Syracuse Special Teams Preview (cusenation; McAllister)

CuseNation.com breaks down the Syracuse special teams heading into training camp.

Syracuse's special teams actually features a lot of returning players. Cole Murphy is back as the kicker. He is a solid, fairly accurate place kicker with decent power in his leg. Murphy had a good year in 2015 and is looking to build upon that in 2016.

As a kick returner, Brisly Estime is back. He was an exciting, electric returner last season who can take one to the house at any time. Should he stay healthy, he has a chance to become one of the best returners in Syracuse history. Estime is a big special teams weapon for the Orange.

WNY Overcome by Rats (PS; TNS)

The vegetable garden in Joe and Debbie Conrad's backyard, not far from the play set for their grandchildren, is ready for harvest.

But the garden – which is full of zucchini, cucumbers and tomatoes – is also full of traps. Rat traps.

The Conrads, who live in Lancaster, caught nine rats in a recent 10-day span.

Pesky rats plagued the village and town for months, but have seemed under control since late spring. Now, they appear to be running wild again.

One of the Conrads' neighbors even had rats inside her kitchen.

"I have traps all over the place and want them gone," Joe Conrad said. "I've lived here 17 years and not had one rat. Now, we seem to have a posse of them. I have a ton of grandkids and a playground, and a beautifully landscaped yard, and cannot use it. We feel like prisoners in our own yard."

Lancaster isn't the only community where rats are becoming a problem.

In fact, Erie County has received 2,224 rodent complaints this year through Aug. 3. — nearly double the 1,197 received in the same period a year ago. Countywide, there were 2,500 complaints for all of 2015.

Hot spots are heavily populated areas like Buffalo, the Tonawandas and Amherst, which is starting to see an uptick in the number of complaints, said Peter J. Tripi, a senior public health sanitarian with the county.

"It's kind of widespread," he said.

the 8 + 2 model has to be something that ESPN has been working with the ACC with for the inventory issues.. so its the more "good games" vs less total games model.

what do they do if a team cant find a 2nd P5 team to play? do they send you to timeout?

It's an elaborate move for teams who play an annual SEC game not to lose an additional home game every other year (GT, Clemson, FSU). The logical move for the majority of the league is a 9 game schedule.

GT, Clemson, FSU will be kicking and screaming their way into it. This interview is a public way of putting something else out there before the vote, I'd bet.

I think the first course of action in this event is to schedule a game with another ACC school lacking a second P5 opponent. One not already on the schedule.

I think this will happen quite a bit. And Syracuse, chronically late booking OOC games, is very likely to be one of the schools. They would love to have more games against Miami and Georgia Tech in particular.

Why is the "NY's college team/conference" thing so "controversial?
Last I checked Syracuse is actually IN the state of NY, whereas RU, UConn, the B1G, etc. are all on the outside looking in.
We are the ONLY P5 program in NY State...so where's the controversy? :noidea:

It is two way. If jealousy is proof of love I have proof. When J---- first slept in my bed, Bambi took a dump on her side of the bed. I'm sure Bambi would have liked to treat J---- like one of her captured mice.
