Welcome to Programmer's Day!

The Day of the Programmer (in Russian: День программиста) is an international professional day recognized in many technology companies and programming firms, that is celebrated on the 256th (hexadecimal 100th, or the 28th) day of each year (September 13 during common years and on September 12 in leap years). It is officially recognized in Russia.[1][2]

The number 256 (28) was chosen because it is the number of distinct values that can be represented with an eight-bit byte, a value well-known to programmers.[3] 256 is also the highest power of two that is less than 365, the number of days in a common year.

How Louisville made 9 30-plus yard gains against Syracuse football's Tampa 2 (film review) (PS; Bailey)

Growing pains were to be expected from Syracuse's defense.

Thin and inexperienced at some positions, the unit is in its first season transitioning from an aggressive, pressure-oriented defense to the zone-heavy Tampa 2.

From a personnel perspective, it's not too surprising that Louisville, led by Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Lamar Jackson, put up flabbergasting totals on the Orange (though setting an ACC record for yards is certainly commendable).

However, giving up chunk gains goes against the ideology of the Tampa 2. If you're going to rush four men, getting beat over the top or failing to contain a runner in the second level is difficult to excuse.

So let's take a look at the Cardinals' nine gains of 30 or more yards in this week's film review and how each one occurred:

Louisville's 845 yards against Syracuse are most since 2013 (mysanantonio.com; Olson)

Louisville's offensive production against Syracuse was the most prodigious of any Bowl Subdivision team in three years.

The Lamar Jackson-led Cardinals amassed 845 yards on Friday, the most since Baylor piled up 872 against West Virginia in 2013.

Louisville's average of 754 yards through two games is well ahead of Texas Tech's 685 on the national total offense chart.

Jackson set an Atlantic Coast Conference record for total offense with 610 yards in the 62-28 win over Syracuse. The sophomore quarterback broke Chris Redman's school record of 578 against East Carolina in 1998.

Jackson is the nation's third-leading rusher at 159 yards a game, is ninth in passing yards at 348.5 and responsible for a nation-leading 78 points. Only Texas Tech's Patrick Mahomes, at 562 yards a game, averages more than Jackson's 507.5 in total offense.

Bride outshoots groom at CNY tournament, then walks down aisle for 'shotgun wedding' (photo gallery; PS; O'Toole)

Five years ago to the day, Peter Derrigo approached Lynn Mapstone at the CNY Trap League's annual championship shoot off tournament at the DeWitt Fish & Game Club.

"I saw her sitting in the grass with her family. I started talking to her. That was pretty much it," Derrigo, 47, of Clay, said.

They sat talking for hours and soon, they were inseparable.

Sunday, the couple -- who shoots for opposing clubs -- was married in a "shotgun wedding" after competing in the CNY Trap League's North-South Shoot Off.

They stood on trap house six and exchanged vows.

"Not only is this a special place for Pete and Lynn, so is this day," said the groom's brother Matt Derrigo, as he officiated the wedding. "Five years ago today, under a small tent just up the hill, Pete took keen notice of Lynn being her typical, playful self... Little did anyone know how that connection would set them off on a journey."

During the ceremony, Matt Derrigo told family and friends a story of how his brother quickly took to Mapstone, 36, and her fun-loving ways.
