Welcome to Epiphany!

Epiphany (ə-piff-ə-nee), also Theophany[1] or Three Kings' Day,[2] is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God in his Son as human in Jesus Christ. In Western Christianity, the feast commemorates principally (but not solely) the visit of the Magi to the Christ child, and thus Jesus' physical manifestation to the Gentiles.[3][4] Moreover, the feast of the Epiphany, in some Western Christian denominations, also initiates the liturgical season of Epiphanytide.[5][6] Eastern Christians, on the other hand, commemorate the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, seen as his manifestation to the world as the Son of God.[7]

The traditional date for the feast is January 6. However, since 1970, the celebration is held in some countries on the Sunday after January 1. Eastern Churches following the Julian calendar observe the feast on what for most countries is January 19[8] because of the 13-day difference today between that calendar and the generally used Gregorian calendar.[9] In many Western Christian Churches, the eve of the feast is celebrated as Twelfth Night.[10][11] The Monday after Epiphany is known as Plough Monday.[12]

Who is Rutgers running backs coach Lester Erb? (nj.com; Dunleavy)

Rutgers has an experienced voice for one of its most experienced position groups.

Veteran Big Ten assistant Lester Erb, who spent 13 years at Iowa under the league's dean of coaches Kirk Ferentz, is on board as the new Rutgers running backs coach.

Chris Ash's coaching staff -- which no longer includes running backs coach Zak Kuhr, who is expected to take a job at Texas State -- reports back from a holiday break Thursday.

Rutgers returns seniors running backs Robert Martin and Josh Hicks, who combined have more than 3,000 career yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground. Both are coming off career-worst seasons.

Rutgers also is hot pursuit of Cherokee High School running back Jon Lovett, who committed, de-committed and is considering recommitting.

Erb was named a Top 25 recruiter by in 2005 and 2012 and figures to take over Lovett's recruitment. He also received a ringing Twitter endorsement Wednesday night from his most recent boss, former Nevada coach Brian Polian.

Which conference finished 2016 as the class of college football? (seccountry.com; Jeyarajah)

Bowl season might not count, but it sure helps build bragging rights. After a slow 1-4 start to the slate, the SEC finished an average 6-6. The conference has enjoyed a lofty perch atop college football for years now, but bowl season said otherwise.

Elsewhere, the Big 10 had four teams ranked in the final 10 of the College Football Playoff rankings. The ACC surprised everyone, going 8-3 in its bowl games. While the SEC still boasts the top-ranked team in the nation, it’s time to re-evaluate the hierarchy.

We asked our panel of college football experts to look at the landscape of college football and answer what should be an easy question: Which is really the top conference in college football after the 2016 season?

Andrew Astleford (@aastleford): ACC
Before bowl season, I would have said the Big Ten for this. But I can’t ignore that 3-7 record in bowl play, which looks as pretty as 3-month-old milk.

The ACC has gained strength in recent years, particularly by tweaking the SEC’s nose over and over. I like so much about what that conference offers. Sure, LSU ripped Louisville in the Citrus Bowl, but Lamar Jackson was fun to watch all season. Florida State had a fantastic performance in the Orange Bowl and could be even better next year. Maintenance workers are still scrambling to clean up the field in Glendale, Ariz., after the mess Clemson made of Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.

If Clemson beats Alabama, that would serve as a fine accomplishment for the ACC and give it a strong argument as the best conference this season. The Big Ten did everything but stick the landing. Because of that, an opening was created for the ACC to take the biggest bow.

House of the Week: Entertaining home in DeWitt with exceptional views (PS; Pucci)

For Alan Moon, there is no beating the view from his big, comfortable living room chair, where on a clear day he can see Onondaga Lake and the city of Syracuse.

Moon and his wife, Janet, had been living in the Regency Tower apartments in Syracuse for several years, but in search of a space great for entertaining, they purchased the home just over three years ago.

Alan Moon said he was sold on the home after taking one step into the front foyer and seeing the panoramic views the home offers. Moon said he can sit in his chair and watch as snow and weather fronts from miles away inch closer.

"It's just great," he said.

The Moons extensively updated and landscaped the grounds, including intricate stonework and a round fountain in the courtyard in front of the home. In the spring, the property gleams brightly with more than 1,000 yellow daffodils.

"The grounds were such a jungle when we moved in," Alan Moon said.

While the property has changed in recent years, the home's original Greek style, including an arched entryway and columns in the living room, are touches left in place from the home's original owner, Samuel Eddy, a longtime Greek and Roman history professor at Syracuse University.
