January 23rd 2015 is Measure your Feet Day! An unusual day out of all the ‘national days’ indeed. The story behind this day originates in ancient Iceland. Ancient Icelanders spent most of their free time either bowling or “shelbing.” Shelbing is high-fiving with your feet! When spring rolled around, a time known for extreme rainstorms in Iceland, the natives would run into their huts, and celebrate the rain by measuring their feet and then pairing off. Shelbing was a customary way to celebrate the rainstorms. Soon enough world leaders caught wind of this customary tradition and found a way to commemorate it. Henceforth, the birth of “Measure your feet day” on January 23rd.

Syracuse football recruiting: 3-star DT/H-back Chris Elmore commits to Orange (PS; Murray)
Chicago defensive tackle Chris Elmore announced his commitment to the Syracuse football team on Saturday.

Elmore was on an official visit to the SU campus this weekend when he made his announcement on Twitter, saying he felt at home at Syracuse.
Elmore, a senior at Phillips High School, initially committed to Western Michigan, but reopened his recruitment following P.J. Fleck's move from WMU to Minnesota.
The 6-foot-1, 270-pound Elmore is rated three stars and the No. 79 defensive tackle in the Class of 2017 by 247Sports.com's composite rankings. He held offers from Syracuse, WMU, Wyoming, Central Michigan, Ball State and Miami (OH), among others.
The Orange now has 21 recruits in its Class of 2017, including four early enrollees. The program is also expected to add graduate transfer defensive back Devin Butler, who is already enrolled for the spring semester.

Commitment breakdown
Hackett committed to Syracuse back in late July.
He chose the Orange over South Florida. Louisville, Kentucky, Wake Forest and Central Florida were among the other schools to offer Hackett a scholarship.
During a summer visit to campus, Hackett came away impressed with Orange's facilities, but it's how the staff plans to use the tight end in the offense that excites him.

Could the full ACC schedule get released this week? (TNIAAM; Cassillo)
Last Thursday, Miami announced its final non-conference opponent (Bethune-Cookman) for the 2017 football season. This was significant because it was the last lingering opening in the ACC. All 14 conference teams and Notre Dame have all completed their non-conference schedule — though Wake Forest still needs to finalize the dates of its matchups with Presbyterian and Utah State, respectively.
Does this mean the full schedule will be coming soon?
Now, it’s unlikely that the Hurricanes’ opening week matchup vs. an FCS opponent was delaying things at all (in fact, Wake probably is). But timing-wise, we could be in line for an announcement this week. Last year, the ACC announced the schedule on January 26. In 2015, it arrived on January 29. There’s a precedent for this being the week.
So what might Syracuse be looking at in terms of the actual layout of the schedule and dates of games, since we already know the opponents?
Some guesswork below, based on both SU’s schedule and others:
Week 1: Central Connecticut State
This is already confirmed. It’s set for Saturday, September 2 at the moment. But in all likelihood, it’ll end up being a Friday night opener. Syracuse has opened on Friday night for the last three seasons -- since they started scheduling FCS opponents to start the year. Bet on it being the same thing in 2017.

Winter storm watch issued for Central New York; heavy wet snow, sleet, strong winds possible (PS; O'Toole)
The National Weather Service on Sunday issued an "urgent winter weather message" for Central New York.
Heavy wet snow, sleet and strong winds, along with colder temperatures, are expected throughout Central New York.
A winter storm watch is in effect from 1 p.m. Monday until 1 p.m. Tuesday for Onondaga, Oneida, Madison, Cortland and southern Cayuga counties.
The winter storm watch also is in effect from 7 p.m. Monday until 6 p.m. Tuesday for northern Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis, Monroe and Wayne counties, including the cities of Fair Haven, Oswego, Watertown, Lowville, Newark and Rochester.
At least 6 inches of snow and sleet could fall during this time, according to the weather service. Up to a foot of heavy, wet snow is possible in higher terrain.
Central New Yorkers likely will see rain early Monday, meteorologists said. But as cold air moves in, rain will mix with snow and sleet, from east to west throughout the day, the National Weather Service said.
"A little freezing rain will also be possible in the transition, but this does not look to be the main threat," the weather service said. "By early Monday evening, most of the region will be seeing snow mixed with sleet."
Snow and sleet -- which could be heavy at times -- will continue throughout the night Monday, into early Tuesday, the weather service said. The wintry conditions are expected to let up Tuesday afternoon.
