Welcome to Hell is Freezing Over Day!

This expression belongs to a small category of “hell” idioms, all referring to Hell as a place which will remain hot throughout eternity. It is an absolute and works well with ironic remarks such as, “a snow ball’s chance in Hell” or “it’ll be a cold day in Hell.” All of these simply mean NEVER.

Usage: Informal, spoken general American and Canadian English. Used for ironic negative emphasis (stressing the opposite of what you mean).

Idiomatic Meaning: Emphatically stating that something will never, ever happen.

Bloomfield's Thompson-Bishop Will Sign To Play Football With Syracuse (courant.com; Vantz)

Russell Thompson-Bishop's excellence in sports is comparable to his academic standing at Bloomfield High School, where he ranks No. 4 in the senior class.

He has superior numbers, no matter where you look.

In basketball Thompson-Bishop, who led the state in blocks (4.6) last season, is the starting center for the 7-4 Warhawks. That was impressive, considering he was 6 feet, 2 inches.

Last season in outdoor track he was a member of the Bloomfield 4x100 Open championship relay team and was an All-Courant member. In football he had 46 receptions for 1,165 yards and 16 touchdowns to finish with 133, 2,768 and 35 in his career.

It is no contest; football is his No. 1 sport.

"The best thing about playing football is being on the field with all my brothers, getting wins, seeing their smiles after the game, do anything I can to bring them to a victory, catch every ball thrown to me and put my heart on the line no matter what," he said.

Syracuse football recruiting: What happened to Class of 2013? (PS; photo gallery)

SU faces nation’s toughest schedule in 2017 (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

Last week, we tried to project early wins and losses for Syracuse Orange football based on the 2017 schedule release. We came in at around five, which makes sense given the difficulty of the schedule.

While we’d belabored the fact that SU faces Clemson, Florida State, Louisville, LSU and Miami (among others), we’d yet to really put some numbers to just how tough that slate is. “Lucky” us, someone else did.

I mean, GOD DAMMIT.

Now granted, four of the five games listed above are part of the ACC schedule anyway, so we’d play them no matter what. But the fact that one of them — LSU — is not an ACC opponent is the point we (I) have been making for years now.

The ACC schedule is already tough enough that we’re looking at annual games against the best of college football every year. Plenty of teams make bowl games against tough schedules, but a lot of those are teams that have the talent to compete against tough schedules.

At this juncture, that’s not Syracuse.

Four Stories We’re Monitoring Ahead Of National Signing Day | Orange Fizz - Free Syracuse Recruiting News, Always Looking at the Future of the Orange (orangefizz.net; Morrissette)

National Signing Day is two days away. Here’s what you need to know.

Ben Moos leaves Syracuse out of top 3

The tight end target took an official visit to California this past weekend and received an offer. Moos told Scout after the visit that his top three consists of Cal, Fresno State and Louisville.

The Post Standard reported that a post National Signing Day visit to SU would be possible for Moos, but it looks like the Orange was just a little too late here.

Latest on Ifeatu Melifonwu

Melifonwu took his official to Syracuse this past weekend and the Orange appears to be in a good spot.

The safety commit had visited Michigan earlier in the week, but it does not look like Jim Harbaugh extended an offer, according to Big Ten site Landof10.com.

“Grafton (Mass.) 3-star S Ifeatu Melifonwu received a visit from Jim Harbaugh last week, which led to him taking an official visit to Ann Arbor. Melifonwu still hasn’t been offered by Michigan, even after the visit, thus ending any sort of drama there.”

That’s certainly a good sign for Syracuse, but #CuseTwitterArmy did see this tweet Sunday night….

Valle's Steak House (several locations)

A high-end family restaurant founded by Italian immigrant Donald Valle in 1933. It eventually had places across the country with several in Upstate New York cities. One of the first family restaurant chains to feature fresh lobster. The business went under in 2000, and many of the buildings were converted to other uses. The popular location in Albany was turned into a campus for Bryant and Stratton College.

They packed them in back in the day of picked-out hair, bellbottom jeans, open-to-the-waist polyester shirts and platform shoes. Many "name acts" of the day played here under the revolving disco ball, including Alice Cooper!
