Welcome to "e" Day!

"e" is one of those amazing numbers that arises naturally in the scheme of things.

Today, 2/7, is celebrated as "e" Day, since the first 2 digits in the number "e" are 2 and 7.

Other special numbers include "pi" (π = 3.141592653..., celebrated on Mar 14th), which is the circumference of any circle divided by its diameter; and "phi" φ = 1.6180339887..., which is the so-called "beauty ratio". These numbers are irrational (that is, their decimals go on forever and never repeat).

e is also an irrational number and it has value:

e = 2.718281828459...

The number e was "discovered" by several mathematicians (Oughtred, Huygens, Jacob Bernoulli, Mercator and Leibniz) but they didn't quite know they had stumbled on it and didn't necessarily know its significance at first.

Way-too-early SU offensive depth chart for 2017 (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

The Syracuse Orange’s National Signing Day just wrapped up last week. But that means it’s officially 2017 on the college football calendar, so we “can” start looking at depth charts for the upcoming season.

Whether we “should” is debatable, but that’s never stopped us before.

Based on everyone that’s supposed to be on campus this fall, here’s what SU’s offensive depth chart could look like when they kick off vs. Central Connecticut State in over 200 (!!!) days. We’re only gong two-deep here, but obviously plenty more players on the roster as well.

Syracuse offensive depth chart

Running back: Moe Neal (So.) | Markenzy Pierre (Fr.)
Outside receiver 1: Steve Ishmael (Sr.) | Russell Thompson-Bishop (Fr.)
Inside receiver 1: Ervin Philips (Sr.) | Sean Riley (So.)
Inside receiver 2: Dontae Strickland (Jr.) | Tyrone Perkins (Jr.)

Syracuse Football: WR Cameron Jordan has Playmaking Abilities (insidetheloudhouse.com; Carey)

Over the next several weeks we’ll be breaking down the new Syracuse football recruits. Up next Cameron Jordan aka “the playmaker”.

The incoming Syracuse football class features four wide receivers, Cameron Jordan is one of those receivers and he has elite height.

Jordan is 6-foot 4 and weighs about 187-pounds, he can be an elite playmaker in Dino Babers’ high flying offense. Jordan is a Long Island native, from Huntington Station played at Half Hollow Hills West.

Jordan put up great senior year numbers recording 26 receptions for 796 yards and 13 TD’s. Half of his receptions went for touchdowns, he is the definition of a big play receiver!

In his junior campaign, Jordan recorded 29 receptions good for 854 yards and 14 TD’s, good for an astronomical 29 yards per reception. Lets take a look at Jordan’s junior highlights:

Senate bill passes to legalize services like Uber and Lyft (DO; Ogozalek)

The New York State Senate on Monday passed a bill seeking to legalize ride-hailing services, bringing Uber and Lyft one step closer to Syracuse and the rest of the state.

The bill, S.4159 which was sponsored by Sen. James Seward (R), establishes a regulatory framework for ride-hailing services upstate. The bill passed by a vote of 53 to 5.

The debate over ride-hailing services has dragged on over the last year in New York state, which is one of the final states in the United States to not have some form of statewide regulatory framework for the services. Ride-hailing services have been operating in New York City for years, but remain illegal in the rest of the state.

“This bill delivers economic, environmental and public safety benefits, and is long overdue,” Seward said in a press release.

The bill now moves onto the Assembly. Last June, the Senate pushed through a similar bill on the last day of the 2016 legislative session that would have established a statewide regulatory framework for the services. However, its Assembly equivalent eventually stalled. The two houses ended up disagreeing over how much insurance coverage should be required for ride-hailing services drivers.
