Welcome to Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine,[1] is an annual holiday celebrated on February 14. It originated as a Western Christian liturgical feast day honoring one or more early saints named Valentinus, and is recognized as a significant cultural and commercial celebration in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country.

Several martyrdom stories associated with the various Valentines that were connected to February 14 were added to later martyrologies,[2] including a popular hagiographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome which indicated he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire.[3] According to legend, during his imprisonment, Saint Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius,[4] and before his execution, he wrote her a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell.[5]

Best overall: Clemson Tigers

The unit needed some time to grow last year, but by season’s end, Clemson’s front had become a force. So while there are ample questions about who’ll be starting at quarterback or carrying the load at running back, the guys in the trenches look stout. Mitch Hyatt is among the best tackles in the country. Sean Pollard and John Simpson got ample work as true freshmen, and they could be stars in 2017. Tyrone Crowder and Taylor Hearn have plenty of experience under their belts, too, and the depth goes well beyond that. The loss of Deshaun Watson won’t be easily overcome, but the foundation of Clemson’s offense should be excellent once again in 2017.

Runner-up: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Sure, longtime starter Freddie Burden moves on. But the rest of the group took such a big step forward last season, that it’s easy to see the unit not missing a beat in 2017. Parker Braun came into his own as a freshman, Trey Klock and Will Bryan made strides as sophomores, and Paul Johnson added more young talent this recruiting cycle with Michael Minihan and Zach Quinney.

Potential sleeper: Florida State Seminoles

Last year’s unit was not great. In fact, when it came to pass blocking, it was downright bad at times, and it’s tough to gauge the run blocking when Dalvin Cook can make anyone look good. But there were signs that this unit could take a big step forward. For one, younger players like Landon Dickerson got experience. Developing linemen like Alec Eberle ad Brock Ruble got better. And a host of depth toiled in the background and should be ready to contribute in 2017. Add to that a unit that showed more push up front as the year progressed and the fact that quarterback Deondre Francois should have a bit more pocket awareness in Year 2 as the starter, and there’s a strong chance last year’s weak link on offense could turn into a strength this season.

Nathan Peterman Should Not Be Overlooked In NFL Draft (fanragspotrs.com; Marino)

Not every quarterback-needy team is going to be in position to use a draft selection on the top quarterbacks in the 2017 NFL Draft like Clemson’s Deshaun Watson or North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky. With that said, there are other quarterbacks that offer starting potential in this draft and the one that continues to be overlooked is Pittsburgh’s Nathan Peterman.

Peterman, a transfer from Tennessee, took over as Pittsburgh’s starting quarterback two games into the 2015 season and never looked back. Because Peterman finished his degree in only three seasons, he was a graduate transfer that did not need to sit for a season before seeing the field.

In 2016, averaging 40.92 points per game, Peterman lead Pittsburgh’s most prolific scoring offense in school history. He was also the ACC’s leader in passing efficiency with a rating of 163.4.In 26 starts for the Panthers, he completed over 60 percent of his passes with an impressive 47 touchdowns against just 15 interceptions.

How did del Lago Casino do in its first week? Numbers tell the story (PS; photo gallery)

del Lago's $440 million resort and casino on Route 414, off Exit 41 of the state Thruway in Tyre, Seneca County, opened with great fanfare on Feb. 1. Politicians believe the resort will jump start a sagging Upstate economy. It's one of four commercial casinos granted a license by the state. The crowd stretched around del Lago, located in the town of Tyre in Seneca County, when it opened its doors on opening day. The Finger Lakes Times reported that 6,500 people entered the first day.

I like the targeting rule.

I feel the penalty should be immediate ejection and suspension for at least one week.

The number of helmet targets that occur is still alarming and unacceptable.

I agree and if anything, they should increase the punishment. Immediate ejection (even if it's the first play of the game) and the next full game played.

When you say "...for at least one week", I think you mean one game correct?

Otherwise, players with a bye week would only get time served from the ejection point from the game.
