Welcome to National Hippo Day!

Bet you didn’t know that Hippo loosely translates to River Horse in ancient Greek. Hippo Day, then, celebrates the third largest mammal on Earth. Why not take some time to waddle in a mud bath, get angry with some tourists, and yawn a lot whilst opening your mouth really-really widely?

Wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo's Syracuse gamble pays off by showing NFL what he can do (theadvocate.com; Erickson)

With one year of eligibility left and little momentum in a Maryland program headed for a coaching transition, Amba Etta-Tawo decided to take a chance on himself.

The talented wide receiver used his status as a graduate to transfer to Syracuse to play in the high-octane offense Dino Babers was installing in his first year the school.

Etta-Tawo's gamble paid off in a big way. Babers needed a receiver with the speed to stretch defenses, and Etta-Tawo blossomed in his final year of eligibility, making 94 catches for 1,482 yards and 14 touchdowns, roughly three times as productive as any of his three seasons with the Terrapins.

"It was my last chance," Etta-Tawo said. "I wanted an opportunity to get a fresh start."

A fresh start that has made him a likely NFL draft pick. Etta-Tawo, who wasn't on anybody's radar after three nondescript seasons at Maryland, earned a Senior Bowl invite and drew some interest from NFL teams even before the week in Mobile, including the New Orleans Saints.

New Orleans has the NFL's best young receiving corps with Brandin Cooks, Michael Thomas and Willie Snead all still playing on their first contracts, but there's always room for another pass-catcher for Drew Brees.

The Syracuse Football Team Has The Deepest QB Room In Conference? (insidetheloudhouse.com; Edsen Jr)

National Signing Day is over for the Syracuse football team and the praise is coming by the troves from national analysts across the country.

We had you covered here for National Signing Day with our live recruiting tracker. Also we’ll continue our player interviews and breakdowns throughout the upcoming weeks on ITLH.

But more reaction is coming for the Syracuse football team including praise for their new quarterback room.

The Orange cracked ESPN’s College Reporter, Andrea Adelson’s top-five quarterback rooms in the conference. Here’s what she had to say via her ACC Position Rankings article on ESPN.com

3. Syracuse: Eric Dungey showed potential in Dino Babers’ offense before getting injured last season. With ESPN 300 quarterback Tommy DeVito now in the mix (along with redshirt freshman Rex Culpepper and experienced backup Zack Mahoney), the Orange could have the deepest quarterback group in the conference.

They have an embarrassment of riches at the position, IF Eric Dungey can return healthy next
season. A big if, but from all reports he will be back as the starter for Dino Babers in year two.

Miami Hurricanes AD Blake James updates on 2017 spring game, indoor practice facility, Gus Edwards, NCAA issues | Canes Watch (palmbeachpost.com; Porter)

...
Bus still parked: Asked if running back Gus “The Bus: Edwards, who last month announced through UM his plans to transfer, was still doing so, James said Edwards hasn’t requested a release.

Edwards, a reserve entering his redshirt senior season, posted on social media before the Russell Athletic Bowl that it would be his last game as a Hurricane, and UM announced his “plans to transfer” on Jan. 18. James clarified the following week that if Edwards was to transfer, he would not be given a waiver to go to Pittsburgh or Syracuse, two schools close to his home but on the Hurricanes’ 2017 schedule.

However, he didn’t at that time request a release, and James said Tuesday that, “to the best of my knowledge, he has not formally requested anything to date.”

Edwards is not listed on Miami’s online roster.

Why Apple’s major iPhone supplier should build a factory in upstate New York, not Pennsylvania (DO; Straus)

Foxconn Technology Group, the world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer and Apple’s major iPhone supplier, is considering investing $7 billion to build a factory in the United States.

Although Pennsylvania has been proactive in contract talks for the factory, New York state is also a contender. The state’s background in fiber optics and the city of Corning’s reputation for glass technology make a good case for the Foxconn factory to be built on New York soil.

New York state is actively pursuing a Foxconn factory, according to The Times Union, and has already approved $600 million of funding to build and equip the new factory. Utica seems to be the likely destination if the factory does come to New York, and the city has space available in the Marcy Nanocenter at the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute campus, according to The Times Union.

For the Taiwan-based Foxconn, a factory in the U.S. could cut down shipping costs by centralizing screen production. New York state could provide an excellent location for a Foxconn factory, given the highly educated work force and eagerness by state lawmakers to attract high-profile manufacturers. Economic incentive will most likely be the driving factor behind Foxconn’s decision, and New York state should prepare to make financial accommodations if it hopes to get the manufacturer’s signature.
