Miami Hurricanes Football: QB Jack Allison leaving program CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami announced Tuesday that quarterback Jack Allison has decided to leave the football program. “Jack approached me and indicated that he felt like he would have more opportunities for playing time at another program,” head coach Mark Richt said. “We wish him all the best in his future plans.” Allison, a native of Parrish, Fla., redshirted for the Hurricanes this past season. A 4-star recruit in the 2016 recruiting class, Allison was running behind Malik Rosier and Evan Shirreffs in the race to be Miami’s QB in 2017. While Allison has the strongest arm of any of the QBs on Miami’s roster, his inconsistent play was holding him back from being a top contender to start this season. Additionally, Mark Richt recently told a local Miami radio show that he was interested to see what 4-star QB signee N’Kosi Perry could potentially bring to the position. With that statement, and 2 other QBs running in front of him, Allison has elected to continue his career elsewhere. During Spring Practice, Jack Allison’s father said his son wouldn’t be leaving Miami, regardless of the outcome of the QB battle. That statement was proven false today. Before spring, I wrote that at least 1 of the non-starting QBs would end up transferring. There is simply too much talent at that position group to have all those guys stick around when only 1 can play at a time. I didn’t think Allison would be the player to leave, but here we are. In any event, we wish Jack Allison the best in his future endeavors. More on this transfer, and the fallout for the Canes’ QB competition in the coming days.
