Welcome to National Root Canal Appreciation Day!

Tooth pain is not a laughing matter, and for anyone who has experienced that discomfort prior to having treatment from an endodontist, Root Canal Appreciation Day is a big, big event. For teeth that have been damaged or irritated to the point of infection, the root canal procedure not only prevents worsening or abscess, it also preserves the tooth and maintains the integrity of the natural bite. Don’t worry; there’s no need to rush out for an unnecessary root canal just to celebrate the day. Recognizing the importance of dental health and its connection to overall health is enough. Root Canal Appreciation Day can be honored by acknowledging the dental specialists who relieve tooth pain and take care of smiles, and by celebrating the resilience of our teeth and their enduring ability to keep on chewing and keep on smiling.

Chauncey Scissum joins UNLV football team, moves on from stabbing at Syracuse (reviewjournal.com; Manzano)

Chauncey Scissum wasn’t running from his fears when he announced last week that he was leaving the Syracuse football team to transfer to UNLV.

Scissum already faced them when he decided to return to Syracuse for his redshirt junior season after surviving a horrific attack at an on-campus party nearly 13 months ago. He was repeatedly stabbed by his former Syracuse teammate Naesean Howard.

Howard stabbed Scissum in the right side of his neck, right upper chest, left shoulder and bottom lip, according to Syracuse.com. Howard also stabbed a second former Syracuse player, Corey Winfield.

“I’m not leaving because of the incident,” Scissum said Monday while finishing up his final week of school at Syracuse. “But if you sit back and look at it from afar, that could be one of the reasons, but it’s just another opportunity to play football at the level that I want and hopefully get to the NFL.”

Wegmans ties for first place as America's favorite grocery store (PS; Hannagan)

Wegmans and Publix, a grocery store powerhouse in the southeastern United States, tied for first place as America's favorite grocery store in a survey of 12,700 shoppers conducted by Market Force Information in March.

This is the second year Wegmans has been named America's top grocery store, but this is its first in having to share that honor with another retailer.

Wegmans bounces back, climbs to No. 1 on list of top grocery stores, survey says

Wegmans beat out Trader's Joe's for the top spot in 2016.

Wegmans unseated long-running favorite Trader Joe's in 2016. Trader Joe's opened in DeWitt in 2014.

Publix had been ranked second for the past four years. It moved to tie with Wegmans with each scoring 77 percent on Market Force's Customer Loyalty Index.

Trader Joe's, with 76 percent, needed one more point to make it a three-way tie. Rounding out the top five were H-E-B, ALDI and Harris Teeter.

Wegmans, founded in 1916 in Rochester is known for its fresh produce, reasonable prices and massive stores, Market Force said. The New York-based chain is expanding steadily and, with a focus on employee training to ensure customers have a great experience, creating superfans eager for a new location to open near their home, the survey company said.

Wegmans landed on Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work for list" for 20 years in row and was placed on the magazine's "Great Place to Work Legends" list.
