Welcome to Hot Air Balloon Day!

Hot Air Balloon Day is being observed today! It has always been observed annually on June 5th.

Hot air balloons are the oldest form of technology to carry humans, with the first human flight taking place in November, 1783 in Paris, France. Prior to humans taking flight, three farm animals, which some sources say were a pig, duck, and rooster, took to the sky in June, 1783. This flight lasted 10 minutes and the balloon went up approximately 6,000 feet. This balloon was created by the Montgolfier brothers out of sackcloth and paper. Hot air balloons consist of an envelope, which is a large balloon-like bag containing heated low-density air which causes the hot air balloon to rise, and a gondola which holds the passengers, as well as the device which creates the hot air that rises into the envelope. The fabric of modern air balloons usually consists of ripstop nylon or polyester. Both leisure and travel have been affected by the hot air balloon, which is why a day exists for it.

Eric Dungey — Meet the 2017 Syracuse Football team - The Juice Online (the juice; Cheng)

There was a moment during spring practice that quarterback Eric Dungey and head coach Dino Babers were seen sharing a laugh.

That laugh wouldn’t have happened last year. At this time in 2016, Dungey was still feeling out the new coaching staff, including his new head coach.

A year later, Dungey has hit a comfort level in his second season in Babers’ uptempo offense, and the humor and trust has come with it.

“Last year, I was a little nervous around him,” Dungey said during spring practice. “But this year, I was joking with him. But at the same time, he still means business.”

Babers said when he arrived at Syracuse that it takes approximately a season and a half for players to truly understand the intricacies of his offense. But once the offense finally grasps it, it’s bad news for other teams.

That would put Syracuse about six games away from truly realizing its potential. That timeline has not been lost on Dungey, now a junior.

“I’m looking forward to working on it, and when everyone’s on the same page, it’s going to be a lot of fun,” Dungey said. “There’s so much more that we can do.”

Vegas Is Wrong About Syracuse Football’s Win Total – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefixx.net; Aki)

Syracuse football fans probably rolled their eyes when they saw the Orange’s first over/under win total for the 2017 season. Four. However, don’t let Vegas dictate the expectations for this year’s team. While the schedule has been declared the hardest in the nation by CBS Sports, there are some cupcake games that the Orange should take care of easily. Plus, Dino Babers has demonstrated the ability to pull off the upset, especially inside the Dome. That being said, there are seven winnable games on SU’s schedule.

The Orange did itself a huge favor by scheduling its easy games at home. While this may sound like the opposite of what SU should do, imagine if Syracuse played Wake Forest inside the Dome last season as opposed to in the middle of Hurricane Matthew. We are probably looking at an SU win and therefore a bowl appearance. The important thing in Syracuse getting to at least five wins is the start. The Orange has to get out to a 3-0 start, which is very much in the realm of possibility. The only potential hiccup could be Central Michigan, but that game is at home, which gives SU the edge.

There is only one home game that you look at and say “yeah, Syracuse shouldn’t bother showing up that day.” That game is against defending champion Clemson. But teams like Pitt, Wake Forest and Boston College all are a part of the path to five or more wins. The Panthers lost one of its best players in James Conner, the Demon Deacons weren’t super dynamic last season and have the second worst recruiting class in the ACC per 247Sports, and then BC is, well, BC. Another reason for optimism is the fact that the Orange’s quarterback situation looks much more stable for next season. Last year, Eric Dungey had a 4-4 record in games he played start to finish. Now, if Dungey were to get hurt like he has the past two seasons, in comes four star freshman Tommy DeVito instead of a guy who was once a walk-on out of junior college in Zack Mahoney.

NBPA Sportscaster U. In 10th Year At Syracuse
(cuse.com)

As Cavaliers and Warriors players undertake their most extensive assignment of the season out west, out east in Syracuse, N.Y., at Syracuse University, seven current and former NBA players are underway in their own comprehensive environment—but it's not on the court.

Current players Langston Galloway, Danny Green, Gerald Henderson (pictured above right), Steve Novak and Willie Reed, and former players Earl Barron (pitcutred above right) and Loren Woods are embarking on their first-ever professional training ground in on-air broadcasting at the NBPA's 10th annual Sportscaster U. It's in partnership with Syracuse University, with the program director being Matt Park, the voice of the Orange.

Over the course of the next four days at Syracuse, this year's seven players will go through the program's core components: appear on multiple TV and radio segments; learn about and then lead production meetings; understand the business side of the industry; and hear from guest speakers, including former player Antonio Daniels, who's a FOX Sports Oklahoma analyst for Thunder games, and Gerry Matalon of Matalon Media, one of the sports industry's top evaluators and coaches of media talent.

"My two promises on the first night are one, you're never going to watch sports the same way again," Park said. "And two, you'll leave knowing whether you care to pursue this further. The Players Association created something that doesn't exist. It's a reasonable laboratory for the real world. I've kept in touch with a handful of guys and they felt it was an appropriate warmup of what they got in the industry."

The whole 1 1/2 yr to learn the system concept is so hard to quantify. It makes you wonder how many plays we left on the table last year. is it players making reads that they missed, is it players making plays they already know but not making mistakes in execution, is it running plays even faster, or is it adding to the play set?

its gonna be fun, it was fun last year even with all the struggles.

Its reads. Knowing what the D is offering as its weakest point and having everyone on sync to exploit that. After that it comes down to having the talent to execute. Its one thing to have the proper read, its another to make the throw, beat your man out of the cut...

thats the part that i would love to be in a film room to discuss. how many plays did we make 5-10 yds when the right read was for 15-20? even its just 3-4 times a game thats 50 yds. And thats not even fixing the execution of the throw/catch / timing parts which we hope to improve on as well

Not sure how I feel about this. This is an opportunity to bypass our excellent recruiting jewel, Newhouse, and still go there after your playing days (I know they can do that on their own, but will they get in?) Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?
