Welcome to June Bug Day!

June Bug Day is being observed today! It has always been observed annually on June 7th.

Fittingly, June Bug Day takes place in June. This is the month when June Bugs, a member of the Phyllophaga genus, which consists of over 260 species of New World scarab beetles, tend to be most visibly active. This is because they emerge from the ground this time of year and search for food and a mate. They may have been in the ground as larvae for up to three years. Adults are about an inch or a little less in length, have a hard black or brown casing, as well as wings. During the day they hide in trees, but at night they tend to swarm and are strongly attracted to light. This is also when they do their feeding, which mainly consists of trees and bushes.

Syracuse football DT Steven Clark medically disqualified due to genetic disorder (PS; Bailey)

Syracuse football defensive tackle Steven Clark was medically disqualified due to a genetic disorder on Tuesday, his father, Steve Clark, told The Post-Standard/Syracuse.com.

Head team physician Dr. James Tucker made the final decision, based in part on the opinion of Syracuse-based hematologist Dr. Santo DiFino, the older Clark said. DiFino believes Steven Clark needs to stay on blood thinners for the rest of his life.

"There's a higher risk of clotting and (DiFino) is uncomfortable with him playing a collision sport," Steve Clark said.

Clark, a junior, finishes his Orange career with 37 tackles, including three for loss, and two fumble recoveries. After choosing Syracuse over a late offer from Florida, Clark appeared in 21 games over the last two seasons, starting nine. He was viewed as one of two returning proven contributors on the interior defensive line, along with redshirt junior Chris Slayton.

The Clarks were hopeful two independently sought opinions would allow Steven to be cleared. Another hematologist, Dr. Gideon Ewing, and vascular surgeon, Dr. Fred Stucky, both from Alabama, believe the risk created by the genetic disorder should not require medication or restrict Steven from physical activity, Steve Clark said.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound McCoy is rated three stars and the No. 212 wideout in the Class of 2018 by 247Sports.com's composite rankings. He has also been offered by North Carolina State, Utah, Iowa and Iowa State, among others.

McCoy, who caught 28 passes for 378 yards and five touchdowns last season, per The Miami Herald, was offered by SU last May. That was the same month that another Deerfield Beach product, Class of 2016 defensive back James Pierre, signed with the Orange (he later failed to qualify).

Syracuse secondary coach Nick Monroe recruits the area and has a relationship with Deerfield Beach head coach Jevon Glenn.

The Orange currently has eight players committed to its 2018 class, including one projected slot receiver in Cooper Lutz.

Sometimes things don’t work out as planned. That is the story of Ben Bryant, now a former University of Wisconsin commit.

The Class of 2018 three-star quarterback received his first college offer from the Badgers on June 24, 2016. After a couple of visits, Bryant committed to the team that reached out to him first in December 2016.

From there, Bryant said he was “100% committed” to Wisconsin. He said he was planning to apply early to Wisconsin and even had a draft of the application prepared. Just a high school junior, Bryant said playing for the Badgers was a dream of his, one that was finally going to come true.

Less than one month ago, on May 11, this all changed. Georgia made an offer to the 6-foot-3-inch, 190-pound UW commit after the Bulldogs and Bryant exchanged a few text messages, Bryant said. Flattered, Bryant said he was still fully aligned with Wisconsin. Bryant said he called the Wisconsin coaching staff to tell them what happened and emphasize that his commitment to the Badgers stood

But the Illinois native was told he “was no longer a good fit for Wisconsin,” he said. Bryant decommitted from UW two days later.

Now, Syracuse football is the latest of the offers Bryant has received. The Orange made its interest official yesterday, according to 247Sports.com

Other offers came from Western Michigan, Temple, Cincinnati, Colorado State, West Virginia and Ole Miss over the past four weeks, according to 247Sports.com.

ACC coaching job rankings: Florida State remains the class of the conference (cbssports.com; Fornelli)

What's your dream job?

Everybody has one. Some people grow up wanting to be an astronaut while others want to be an athlete. For some reason completely foreign to me, some people even grow up wanting to be a lawyer.

The point is that when it comes to a dream job, different things suit different people. That's what makes our ranking the best jobs in college football so subjective. What one coach might consider a plus could be another coach's negative.

What I'm trying to do in these rankings is view each job from a neutral point of view. I considered many different factors when trying to figure out which job is the "best." The tradition of a school was a factor, as was the amount of success it's had, and how the school is positioned for future success.

Throw in some recruiting -- not only the recruiting base, but the level of difficulty involved in recruiting players to the school -- expectations and the loyalty of the fan base, and I think I came to some pretty reasonable conclusions.

So without further ado, here are the 14 jobs of the ACC ranked from best to worst.

ACC JOB RANKINGS

Seminoles
Florida State was actually in danger of falling behind before Jimbo Fisher took over and made football king again in Tallahassee. When compared to the other schools of the ACC, there's really only one other school that comes close to everything Florida State has to offer, whether we're talking history, tradition, fan base or recruiting. FSU's well-positioned in it all.

ACC Football 2017 Predictions (athlonsports.com; Lassan)

The ACC stuffed the trophy case last season and claimed the top spot among college football’s conferences. Clemson defeated Alabama for the national title, Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson won the Heisman Trophy, Florida State defeated Michigan in the Orange Bowl, and 11 teams finished with a winning record. Additionally, the ACC capped a strong regular season by claiming nine bowl victories

There’s little reason to doubt this league will be back near the top of the pecking order once again in 2017. Athlon’s predictions place Florida State and Miami as the favorites to win the divisions and rematch in Charlotte in early December to decide the conference title. However, Clemson is once again a playoff contender, Virginia Tech is a close No. 2 behind Miami in the Coastal, and with Jackson leading the way, Louisville is a top 25 team.

It's rained 41 of the past 67 days, here's why, and when Central NY can expect drier weather (PS; Montreuil)

You don't need a meteorologist to tell you it has been very rainy in Central New York for the last few months.

So rainy, in fact, that it has been raining on average just about two out of every three days since April 1.

During that time, Syracuse has seen 12.94" of rain (through 6 a.m. Tuesday) and has gotten a half inch or more in a day 10 times, or about once a week.

Compare that to last year, when the drought was just starting to take shape across Central New York. Between April 1 and June 5, 2016, the amount of rain was less than half at just 6.34". That number could have been even lower, as a third of that, 2.42", fell in one day on May 29.

So what has been causing all of the rain in Central New York?

A steady stream of storm systems has been parading through the jet stream towards Central New York. These storm tracks have come from a variety of directions, with numerous storms cutting through the Great Lakes, some coming from the southwest, and even a couple storms moving up along the East Coast.
