Welcome to Crowded Nest Awareness Day!
Crowded Nest Awareness Day recognizes the condition of Crowded Nest Syndrome (affectionately referred to as CNS by many blogs and web articles) where you have children who have moved out of the house and you've gone through Empty Nest Syndrome only to have your children (and possibly their children) come back home again and/or having your parents or in-laws move in with you so you can care for them. Suddenly, this creates a feeling of a crowded nest. With the recent popping of the housing bubble and so many people out of work, this syndrome is something we're hearing quite a bit more of these days.
We've been unable to track down the origins of this holiday. The earliest reference to it that we could find was 2005.[1]

College football rankings: Syracuse Orange (orlandosentinel.com; Deen)
The Syracuse Orange are No. 76 in the Orlando Sentinel 2017 preseason college football rankings. The Orange may need more time to move in the ACC standings, but Dino Babers has the team trending in a positive direction.

Look back: Dino Babers’ tenure at Syracuse did not start ideally with eight losses, including a four-game skid to finish the 2016 season.
But there’s no doubt Babers and his players will never forget the moment they realized their potential following an upset victory at home last season against No. 17 Virginia Tech, winners of the Coastal Division.
After the 31-17 victory, ESPN cameras captured an enthused Babers delivering a thrilling postgame speech to his players that surely set the standard he expects heading into the 2017 season.
“They thought they were going to come in here, and just have an easy game,” Babers shouted to his players. “Somebody in Vegas told them they were going to win by 20-23 points. They didn’t look into your heart. They didn’t look into your heart. They didn’t look into my heart.
“Because they came to who’s house? Our house!” he screamed.

Syracuse football WR Erv Philips named 2nd-team Preseason All-ACC by Lindy's Magazine (PS; Bailey)
College football outlets continue to release preseason accolades as the offseason rolls on.
Two weeks ago, five Syracuse football players were named to Athlon Sports' preseason All-ACC teams. Punter Sterling Hofrichter led the way as the lone first-team selection.
Lindy's Magazine recently released its preseason All-ACC teams and three Orange players are represented. Senior inside receiver Erv Philips earned a spot on the second team while Hofrichter, a redshirt sophomore, and senior linebacker Zaire Franklin landed on the third team.
Last season, Philips posted 90 receptions, 822 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns -- all second on the team behind Amba Etta-Tawo -- en route to earning All-ACC honorable mention by the coaches and media. He's focused on improving his consistency during his final collegiate season, and in hopes of doing so, he rewatched every game from last year and noted each of his individual mistakes.
Hofrichter made a name for himself in his first season contributing. His 42.7 yard punt average tied for second among freshmen and helped him land a spot on Freshman All-America and All-ACC teams. Hofrichter landed 24 punts inside the 20-yard line with just three touchbacks.

Cops: Syracuse man shocked, injured while stealing wiring from transformer (PS; Sturtz)
A man was severely injured when he was shocked while stealing metal and wiring from a transformer in the town of Salina, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office said.
About 5:45 a.m. on May 11, a National Grid worker responded to its substation in Lyncourt after several customers reported a power outage in the area.
The worker checked the substation, but found nothing wrong. When the worker checked a transformer station on Court Street, however, he found a severely injured man just outside the fenced area, said Sgt. Jon Seeber, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.
Detectives later learned the man, Dennis McLaughlin, had entered the fenced area of the transformer station to steal metal and copper wiring, Seeber said.
McLaughlin believed the transformers were not active, but came into contact with one of the energized transformers and was shocked, Seeber said.
"It knocked him off his feet," Seeber said. "He definitely took quite a hit."
McLaughlin suffered second-degree and third-degree burns to his body, Seeber said. The shock ripped his pants and caused them to catch fire, he said, and he lost his cell phone when he was shocked so he could not call for help.
