Syracuse secondary rebounds from early miscues (DO; Bloss)

For the strongest safeties, the play was routine. Evan Foster came to the aid of his cornerback, Christopher Fredrick, who had been beaten inside down the left sideline by Central Michigan’s Cameron Cole. It was a simple plug, the reason why safeties exist.

Except Foster took a poor angle. Cole took a minor cut and Foster tried to pivot. His body folded at the hip. The tiny black pellets beneath his spikes flicked into despair as he collided with Fredrick, setting Cameron loose on a 56-yard touchdown that gave CMU its first lead of the game.

A week after the Syracuse secondary allowed three second-half touchdowns in a brutal loss to Middle Tennessee, a trend appeared to be taking shape.

“We knew that people would think that we wouldn’t be able to get the job done,” Foster said, “just because the game kind of went the same way it went last week.”

The SU (2-1) secondary responded. Aside from an 11-play second-quarter drive, the Orange’s defensive backs led the defense in a dominating performance. Central Michigan quarterback Shane Morris threw for 190 fewer yards than he did the week prior, and the Chippewas didn’t score in the final 37 minutes despite SU not recording a sack in the entire game.

Syracuse is entering the first phase of its brutal schedule, with trips to No. 25 Louisiana State and North Carolina State over the next two weeks.

Fizz Radio: Breaking Down Syracuse Football v. Central Michigan – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; podcast; Edelstein)

David Edelstein breaks down Syracuse football’s 41-17 win over Central Michigan. He discussed his initial thoughts going into the game, including CMU quarterback Shane Morris’ dominance through the first two weeks of the season, as well as what Syracuse football did right against the Chippewas and what improvements still need to be made going into week 4 at LSU.

Syracuse Football Report Card over Central Michigan (itlh.com; Carey)

The running game is alive for the Syracuse football team. It only took three weeks to get there, ITLH breaks it all down

Syracuse football took care of business this past Saturday against Central Michigan by a score of 41-17. SU got off to a slow start as Central Michigan’s defense gave the Orange offense fits. The Orange turned up the attack in the second quarter thanks to some big plays by the defense and the offense’s emergence of a run game.

One of the key plays of the game came in the second quarter courtesy of Syracuse cornerback Chris Fredrick. Fredrick undercut a route and came up with the second interception off of Central Michigan quarterback Shane Morris. The Syracuse offense would later cash in scoring a touchdown and seizing all momentum, taking a seven point lead heading into the locker room.

The Syracuse offense had a nice balanced day passing for 279 yards and rushing for 300 yards. That is the largest rushing total for Syracuse under head coach Dino Babers, if Syracuse can run the ball well the remainder of the season watch out.

On the defensive side of the ball Syracuse forced three turnovers. Fredrick came up with a big interception as mentioned above, while strong safety Evan Foster made a huge play as he returned one interception for six, knotting up the score in the second quarter.

In this post we will not only break down who played well, but we will also look at the Syracuse players that underperformed. We will keep in mind who will need to be better if Syracuse wants any chance next weekend against LSU.

Syracuse Football: Dino Babers says ‘You always have a chance’ (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers says you always have a chance in football. Does Orange nation agree? ITLH breaks it down
Well what else is he going to say? No the Syracuse football team is going to get its’ ass kicked? Probably not.

In all seriousness, SU takes to the road for the first time this season against the Tigers in a nonconference contest. So yes the Orange volunteered for this.

A fun fact: the Tigers have won 48 consecutive nonconference contests, yikes. Some more statistics brought to you by ESPN FPI Analytics:

  • LSU is an 88.8% favorite to win
  • Orange are 23 and a half point underdogs
While both teams may enter Tiger Stadium 2-1, they’re on quite different paths. Although where the Orange have the advantage is offensively. The Cuse average 38 points a contest and nearly 500 yards of offense per game.

For LSU they average a shade over 26 points per game and a hair over 400 yards a game. But for the Tigers, they’ve got that SEC powerful defense and plenty of it. They only allow 268 yards a game and they pummel teams defensively.

See cool new apartments in old Syracuse knitting mill (photos) (PS; Moriarty)

The $11 million transformation of an historic 117-year-old former knitting mill near Syracuse's Franklin Square into modern apartments is nearing completion.

Leasing has started for the 19 one-bedroom and 19 two-bedroom units at Oak Knitting Mill at 102 W. Division St. Occupancy is expected to begin in mid-October.

Rents range from $1,250 to $2,250 a month (including heat but not electricity). The smallest of the apartments is 775 square feet and the biggest is 1,780 square feet.

"We've underpriced it for apartments of this size," said Joe Gehm, managing member of Lahinch Group and a principal in the project along with developer Tim Lynn and BBL Construction Services. "You're getting a product that truly is above standard in the market."

The apartments feature granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, tall ceilings, nine-foot tall windows, and washers and dryers in each unit.

Other features include a fitness center, a tenant lounge, fiber optic internet and cable television, and an outdoor patio with grills. Tenants will have the use of basement storage areas at no charge. On-site parking will cost $50 a month. Pets will be allowed in most units for a $250 annual fee.
