Welcome to Medical Assistant's Recognition Day!

Medical Assistants Recognition Day is observed on Wednesday of the third full week in October. One of the fastest-growing careers in the nation, medical assistants make medical offices run more smoothly and instrumental to overall quality patient care.

Medical assistants are health professionals who support the work of physicians and other health professionals, usually in a clinic setting. Their responsibilities can include both administrative and clinical duties. Depending on the type and size of the facility, what state, certifications available and the laws affected by where they work, medical assistants can play a variety of roles.

Syracuse football faith poll: How are SU fans feeling after Clemson win? (PS; Axe)

Faith. Belief without evidence.

The weekly Syracuse football faith poll was designed to test the highs and lows of how the Orange fan base responded to that message consistently preached by SU head coach Dino Babers.

That sermon has never held a more captive audience.

Syracuse's win over Clemson has created a seismic event in the Orange universe.

It validates Babers' message of where the program is heading under his leadership and has already led to fans calling for AD John Wildhack to solidify Babers' status as head coach.

It makes the team believe it can beat anyone left on its schedule, starting with No. 8 Miami this Saturday.

College football experts see a rising profile in Syracuse, N.Y., that major programs with available jobs will keep in mind to call in the offseason.

One win does not make a program. This same Syracuse team lost to Middle Tennessee State last month.

Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney Must Be On The Syracuse Payroll (clutchpoints.com; Nardone)

Clemson Tigers coach Dabo Swinney must be on the Syracuse payroll, as he is still praising the Orange after last weekend’s upset.

Cameras caught the coach praising Syracuse counterpart Dino Babers after the game. Now the Clemson leader is out here (somewhat randomly) still praising the Orange.

“We got our butts kicked, and we deserved it, and we earned it,” Dabo Swinney said in a conference call. “Let’s just compliment Syracuse. There ain’t no excuses. They had the same opportunity as we did. They just outcoached us and outplayed us, and they earned it, and we earned our butt-whooping. There’s no excuses.”

Swinney apparently visited the Syracuse locker room after the game to visit with Babers.

“First of all, it’s a very unique setup at Syracuse,” Swinney said. “Our locker rooms are right beside each other in the same hallway. You could hear ’em celebrating. I wanted Dino to know, ‘Listen, this ain’t about Clemson, this is about you guys.’

“I’m happy for him. He’s trying to build a program. I have a lot of respect for him. They flat-out outplayed us, and I didn’t want it to be, ‘Well, Clemson didn’t play well.’ They frickin’ whipped our butts and outcoached us. That should be the story, nothing else. It was just right there. It wasn’t that big a deal.”

Syracuse Football: #PayDino campaign is now official (itlh.com;Esden Jr)

There was talk and now there’s action from Syracuse football fans. The #PayDino trend you can now officially support. ITLH breaks it down.

Lets start where it all began. Last Friday night, the Syracuse football team had their biggest upset in the 21st century with their win over the No. 2 ranked teamin the country.

Following that win, the fanbase rallied around their head coach Dino Babers. So much so that a hashtag was started by local Syracuse sports talk radio host Mike Lindsley.

Thus the conversation circled around the notion of #PayDino. Currently Babers is in the second year of a reported six year contract. This #PayDino trend is more so about the fans suggesting the University should do everything in their power to keep Orange is the New Fast in Central New York.

While the grass will always be greener on the other side for Babers. To try and prevent him leaving fans are suggesting that it would be a good optic if the University gave their coach a pay raise. A sign of good faith for his mantra of ‘belief without evidence’ that finally got its’ evidence.

#PayDino campaign is official! Support the cause and WE WANT BABERS! #CLEMvsCUSE #oitnf #Cuse #DomeDudes #PayDino

Yes that’s right. You can buy a #PayDino shirt for $20 bucks. The message on the campaign says the goal is to get as many Orange fans wearing these shirts at SU’s next home game. Which happens to be Saturday November 11th against Wake Forest.

Hurricanes football coach Mark Richt discusses the matchup against Syracuse (sun-sentinel.com; video)

Hurricanes football coach Mark Richt discusses Saturday's upcoming matchup against Syracuse and more.

Quick hits from Hurricanes coach Mark Richt's news conference ahead of Syracuse (sun-sentinel.com; Chirinos)

When the Hurricanes take the field for the first time this season as a top-10 team, they’ll face a Syracuse team coming off one of the biggest upsets in college football this year.

The Orange, who will visit Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday afternoon, had lost three of their last five before hosting defending national champion Clemson last Friday.

Behind a three-touchdown effort frm Eric Dungey, Syracuse notched a 27-24 upset of the Tigers, the win marking the Orange’s first victory over a top-five opponent since 2001.

Now, the Orange is looking to knock off their second top-10 team in as many weeks.

Mark Richt’s news conference ahead of the Syracuse game:

On whether Syracuse’s win over Clemson helps motivate the Hurricanes:

“I would hope we’d be ready no matter what, but you can’t deny what happened. I don’t have to explain anything to anybody about how good these guys are. Friday night before the game, we’ll have dinner and then we’ll have offensive and defensive meetings. … When those are over, we’ll have a social time where they’ll have some snacks and we’ll have gigantic video screens of the game of the night, so our guys are watching it live and saw for themselves what was about to come up this weekend. I didn’t really have to explain much of anything.”

On the impact South Florida’s conditions could have on Syracuse:

“I think they’ll be inspired. Can you simulate heat and humidity? Probably not. … I think the more good things that happen to them, the harder they’ll play. Hopefully we’ll get ourselves in position where they have to dig a little deeper. When you knock off the defending national champion … Dino Babers is teaching his team to fight to the finish. He’s teaching his team what it takes to be great. They believe it and they should believe it. … Teams that are used to winning are hard to beat. Right now, not that their record is unblemished, but they know how to win and they know they know how to win. It’s going to be a tough game for both of us.”

Miami football: Can’t make sense of Syracuse or anybody else this year | Dave's Digital Domain (mypalmbecahpost.com; George)

College football is the world’s grandest carousel. You can laugh yourself silly riding on it, or throw up and wind up screaming to get off, or simply stumble away dizzy and a little unclear on what just happened. All on the same Saturday afternoon.

These random and ridiculous thoughts come to me as No. 8 Miami prepares to play Syracuse on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. There are a couple of ways Mark Richt could play this.

He might say “Syracuse just beat Clemson, the defending national champion, so that means the Orange are as good as anyone in America.”

He might say “Syracuse lost to Middle Tennessee, and Middle Tennessee lost to Florida Atlantic, and FAU hasn’t had a winning season since the guys on our team outgrew trick-or-treating, so that means the Orange must be as bad as anyone in America.”

You know he won’t use that second option, but he could.

Likewise, Lane Kiffin could point FAU toward Saturday’s game with North Texas and build off the Owls’ recent 58-28 rout of Old Dominion. Here’s how that fictional rallying cry might go.

After Justin Pugh shuts down Von Miller, #PayPugh trends (Syracuse & CNY in NFL) (PS; Bailey)

Justin Pugh was the Syracuse/CNY standout performer this weekend, sliding out to right tackle for the New York Giants and winning the battle against elite Denver Broncos pass rusher Von Miller. Pugh was one of, if not the keys to New York's first win of the season -- a contract one for Pugh, who was a first-round pick in 2013.

Let's take a look at the #PayPugh movement on Twitter and touch on how some other locals performed in Week 6.

It didn't take long for former Orange teammates of Pugh to get on Twitter and help spark the #PayPugh hashtag. Fellow offensive linemen Zack Chibane and Rob Trudo, as well as wideout Alec Lemon, were among those who shared as it spread through the Giants fanbase

There's a strong argument to be made for Pugh to receive a significant raise. He's showed consistency and versatility in the fifth year of his rookie deal -- a campaign that will net him $8.8 million via a team option. In a May interview with the New York Post, Pugh said he was aware of the $40-60 million deals given to non-Pro Bowl offensive linemen.

“I’m sitting in the driver’s seat,’’ Pugh told The New York Post.

We'll see if Giants brass feels the same way.

The Lincoln Building on Otisco Street before it was renovated by the Near Westside Initiative

Syracuse University pulls back support for anti-poverty work on city's Near Westside (PS; Eisenstadt)

When the $100 million effort to revitalize Syracuse's Near Westside began 10 years ago, it seemed like a Syracuse University project.

"The support that Syracuse University gave us for 10 years - they gave us a lot," said Sheena Solomon. Solomon is with the Near Westside Initiative, the organization created to run the neighborhood renewal effort.

But where the nonprofit ended and Syracuse University began had always been hard to discern.

Solomon rattled off the list of what the university provided: paid staff, insurance, media help, students, professors. The executive director of the group was paid by SU, and Marilyn Higgins, then SU's vice president of economic development and community engagement, was heavily involved in the projects.

The plan was to redevelop the Near Westside, one of the city's poorest neighborhoods, into a place where people wanted to live, work and do business. Syracuse University led and staffed an effort to bring together businesses, nonprofits and neighborhood residents to rebuild and revitalize the area. They created the nonprofit group called the Near Westside Initiative.

Over the past decade, the effort has brought nearly $100 million into the Near Westside, turning crumbling factories into modern workspaces, attracting tenants like WCNY, ProLiteracy, and King and King architects. Blighted homes were rebuilt into gems.
