This time of year, Dabo Swinney has a plan. Always.
Because, No. 1, Clemson’s first College Football Playoff game of the season is on New Year’s Day instead of New Year’s Eve this time and because the schedule for final exams was a week later than usual, the plan for the Tigers' coach needed some tweaking logistics-wise.
But the plan itself — the premise of it and what Swinney believes in — stay the same.
“Coach Swinney does a great job of our structure at practice,” Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables said. “We’re not spending 80 percent of our practice or even 70 percent of our practice preparing for Alabama. We’re working on fundamentals, we’re working on just good-on-good and just trying to get better.

Bishop Ludden, CBA wins give CNY a split in Thruway Challenge (PS; Spadafore)
Wins by Bishop Ludden and Christian Brothers Academy enabled Section III to split the first-ever Thruway Challenge boys basketball series with the Msgr. Martin league on Sunday at Daeman College in Buffalo.
The plan is to bring the Thruway Challenge four game event to Syracuse next season. Here is a recap.

Power Bornfreedom scored 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter, but the Atoms rally fell short in the first game of the Thruway Challenge. Noreon Williams led Syracuse Academy of Science (3-3) with 16 points and nine rebounds in the game.
Bishop Ludden def. St. Francis Prep, 63-56 | box score
Joe Connor scored 14 of his team-high 23 points in the third quarter to help the Gaelic Knights (4-2) pull away for the victory. Ed Walser and Jai Smitheach scored 14 points in the win.
St. Mary's def. Bishop Grimes, 71-63 | box score
Tong Mading, David Mo and TJ Bradford all scored in double figures, but a big second half by St. Mary's was too much for the Cobras. Mading scored a game-high 19 points while Mo added 18 points and Bradford had 12.
