On May 15th, we recognize a morsel of a thing. It’s National Chocolate Chip Day!
Have you ever wondered if an ingredient would work in a recipe? It is hard to imagine where we would be without the invention of chocolate chips.
In 1937, Ruth Graves Wakefield of Whitman Massachusetts must have been curious what a little bit of chocolate would add to her cookies. While working at the Toll House Inn, she added cut-up chunks of semi-sweet Nestle chocolate bar to a cookie recipe. The cookies were a huge success and in 1939 Wakefield signed an agreement with Nestle to add her recipe to the chocolate bar’s packaging. In exchange for the recipe, Wakefield received a lifetime supply of chocolate. The Nestle brand Toll House cookies were named for the Inn.
Nestle initially included a small chopping tool with the chocolate bars. Starting in 1941, Nestle and other competitors started selling the chocolate in chip or morsel form.

More than a New Roof, Syracuse University to Invest $118 Million for Stadium-Like Fan Experience (waer.com; Smith)
Syracuse University is investing $118 million dollars to replace the existing Carrier Dome roof and other upgrades that should be ready by Football season 2020 and provide a stadium-like experience. Over the weekend the University’s Board of Trustees signed-off on the plan to install the suspended roof and updates inside. Athletic Director John Wildhack says the focus is on students and the fan experience.
“The new roof will allow more natural light to come into the building. I think the lighting system will be tremendous in terms of what we can do around basketball, football games in terms of team entrances, introductions, etc. and also when we do concerts, Monster Jams, etc. that type of thing. When you have a center hung video scoreboard and then you have a sound system which is state of the art, I just think the overall experience is going to be much, much better than it currently is.”

Syracuse has announced a renovation of the Carrier Dome, thoughts on the new design?
It was announced on Monday that Syracuse is looking to put 118 million dollars into the Carrier Dome to update the entire stadium, which would include a new fixed roof, scoreboard, lighting, and state-of-the-art sound system. Overall first look, the renovations look really good but there are others that would love to see a completely new stadium. The Carrier Dome certainly is an iconic type of place but sometimes lacked that feel and excitement. From what has been presented, the new stadium will certainly look the part and bring a new type of experience to all fans, especially with the outside lighting for football and what they can do for football. How would you rate the new renovations?

Syracuse's Carrier Dome getting new roof, air conditioning (apnews.com)
The Carrier Dome at Syracuse University is getting a makeover that will include a new fixed roof and air conditioning.
The university’s board of trustees has authorized $118 million for improvements to the dome, the school announced Monday . The money also will be used for a vertically hung scoreboard, state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, and improved internet access. More than $6 million will go toward making the facility more accessible to the handicapped.
Construction will begin this summer and the first phase is scheduled to be completed in fall 2020. Air conditioning and other improvements are expected to be completed two years later. Football, basketball and lacrosse seasons will not be affected by the work, which will be put up for bid.
The Carrier Dome, which has an air-supported roof, opened in 1980 and cost $25.6 million.
Syracuse football recruiting: 2019 Florida LB Omari Fiffer puts Orange in Top 5 (PS; Bailey)
Class of 2019 linebacker Omari Fiffer listed Syracuse football in his Top 5 schools on Monday.
A junior at Edward H. White (Jacksonville, Fla.) High School, Fiffer also included Iowa State, Boston College, USF and UCF.

The 6-foot, 195-pound Fiffer is rated three stars by 247Sports.com and also holds offers from Western Kentucky, Troy and Southern Miss, among others. Fiffer, who participated in the Blue-Grey All-American Combine in February, has been high on the Orange since SU offered in December.

One of the most underrated former Syracuse football stars in the NFL today is Jay Bromley.

'Increasing threat' for severe storms in parts of Upstate NY Tuesday (PS; Coin)
The odds of severe storms in parts of Upstate New York on Tuesday are growing.
"There appears to be an increasing threat for severe weather tomorrow," the Storm Prediction Center said.
Most of Upstate south of I-90 could see thunderstorms with damaging winds. The odds are highest across the Southern Tier and the Upper Hudson Valley, where the odds of severe storms are 30 percent.
"Some storms may become strong to severe Tuesday afternoon into early evening," said the National Weather Service office in Binghamton, which has issued a hazardous weather outlook. "Damaging winds will be the main threat. Locally heavy rainfall may also occur."
There's also a chance for large hail, flash flooding and even a tornado, the weather service said.
Thunderstorms are most likely to develop in mid to late afternoon.
