Welcome to Cow Appreciation Day!

On Cow Appreciation Day, people wear cow costumes—or even any sort of cow apparel—and head to Chick-fil-A to receive free food. Adults receive a free entrée, and children receive a free kids meal. In 2017, about 1.8 million people participated at over 2,200 restaurants. Why cows? The day honors Chick-fil-A's "Eat Mor Chikin" Cows. They were introduced in 1995 on a billboard, where a cow was sitting on the back of another cow and painting "Eat Mor Chikin." The cows have since been used in advertisements using mediums such as television and the internet, and have even been on water towers.

Pittsburgh Panthers — 2018 Syracuse Football preview - The Juice Online (the juice; Cheng)

As we countdown to kickoff in August, we’re going to be doing a team-by-team preview each week over the summer. SU will continue its 2018 ACC schedule when it plays the Pittsburgh Panthers on Oct. 6.

TRYING TO RETURN TO A BOWL: For the first time since 2007, the Panthers sat at home during bowl season. A disappointing 5-7 season, albeit one where it took down then-undefeated Miami, has left head coach Pat Narduzzi aiming to get back to the postseason. Though Narduzzi has plenty of talent on his roster, his squad also faces a tough non-conference schedule that leaves little room for error. Aside from Albany, the Panthers’ non-ACC slate includes Penn State, Notre Dame and UCF (who will hang a national championship banner on campus after finishing the season 13-0). That may make it hard to get back to eight wins, which how Narduzzi started when he arrived on campus three year ago.

College football's 2018 season is less than 50 days away, but it’s never too early to make projections and predictions on how the bowl games and playoff pairings may look by the time the CFB Playoff selection committee meets in December. The top four teams for the fifth year of the College Football Playoff era could look similar to the final pairings from last season. Alabama and Clemson have met for three consecutive years in the CFB Playoff and a fourth matchup is projected by Athlon Sports this postseason. The Crimson Tide and Tigers are the pick to meet in the national championship game, with Ohio State and Georgia rounding out the four playoff teams. Michigan, Auburn, Washington, Miami, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Penn State and Michigan State headline the next tier of contenders.

The 2017-18 bowl schedule features 40 overall games including the national championship. Additionally, the semifinals will take place on Dec. 29 this season. The Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl will host the semifinals, while the national championship will be held in Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. on Jan. 7.

How will the postseason matchups look by December? According to Athlon's projections, Syracuse, Duke, SMU, Baylor, Old Dominion, Miami (Ohio), Western Michigan, UNLV, Colorado and Washington State will be eligible. However, there are not enough spots (according to our projections) for the eligible teams. Below are Athlon Sports' predictions for every bowl and playoff game in 2018:

Preview 2018: Ranking The ACC Coaches (collegefootballnews.com; Fiutak)

Who do you want as your head coach for right now, and who are the best guys going at each program?

Of course, it’s easy to go by record, but it’s just as much about trends, where the teams are going, and where the buzz is at for each of the rulers of their respective worlds.

These aren’t Hot Seat Rankings – those are coming later. These are the rankings based loosely on what the head coaches have done, and mostly about what they’re about to do.

Think of it this way. If all things were equal in terms of program, talent, facilities, etc., and you were to hold a head coaching draft …

14. Dino Babers, Syracuse

This isn’t fair – he appears to be just this close to making this all work, but the ACC is loaded with excellent coaches. However, even though the offense has been great, two 4-8 seasons are a problem. Yeah, his team beat Clemson, and then lost every game then rest of the way.
– Preview 2018: Can Babers Break Out?

13. Pat Narduzzi, Pitt

Is the program really on the verge of something big? The Miami win showed the promise and potential of what could happen under Narduzzi, but after a losing season and with the defense so sketchy under a guy known for his defensive coaching brilliance, the trend can’t be going downward.

Ivanka Trump stops at LaFayette diner on way to Syracuse (PS; Weiner)

Ivanka Trump couldn't get enough of Cindy Kehrer's homemade raspberry muffins when she stopped by her diner on Monday morning during a drive to Syracuse.

Kehrer, owner of Cindy's Old Tymes Cafe on Route 11 in LaFayette, said the first daughter stopped by after 10 a.m. as she traveled from a stop in Cortland County to a school in Syracuse.

After ordering a broccoli and cheese omelet with a raspberry muffin, Trump asked for a few more of the homemade treats to take with her on the road.

"It was a bit exciting, and she was just as sweet as she could be," Kehrer said after the visit.

Kehrer said she received about an hour's notice that Trump would arrive with a small entourage of staff and Secret Service agents for a quick breakfast stop. About 20 people were in the small diner when Trump sat down to eat with two of her aides.
