Welcome to Nylon Stockings Day!
Some holidays are there to celebrate events of momentous cultural significance; others are there to remind us of the little things in life. Nylon Stockings Day is very much in the second category, and a particularly quirky holiday it is too.
As might be guessed from the name, this is a day in which women across the world can celebrate stockings – a major part of day-to-day fashion for many women.
The stocking has come to represent a large number of different concepts, from femininity to sexuality, and so we should not be too surprised to find that there are people willing to celebrate it. Granted, setting an entire day aside may seem an excessive measure to some people, but that is business as usual with holidays – what is just another date on the calendar to one person may be a red-letter day to another.

Former Syracuse football wide receiver Jamal Custis has a great chance to make the Kansas City Chiefs roster. Here are all the juicy details.
Jamal Custis is one of several former Syracuse football players trying to make an NFL roster as an undrafted free agent. Shortly after the 2019 NFL Draft, he signed on with the Kansas City Chiefs and he has a great chance to stick around.
Custis received the highest guaranteed money of any UDFA wide receiver in the last two years, so that certainly helps his case. But that’s not the main reason why Jamal is in such good shape, it’s because of what he brings to the table.
The Chiefs currently have 12 wide receivers on their 90-man roster heading into training camp. But Custis immediately separates from the rest of the pack with his size (6-foot-5, no one else on the roster is as tall at the receiver position or as heavy at 213 pounds).
Also, Custis is more than just a one-trick pony, he’s versatile. Custis at his size can obviously line up at the outside receiver position, but he played a ton in the slot as a senior for the Orange.
On offense he can be a red zone threat, in the middle of the field he can run past linebackers and outmuscle members of the secondary. And oh wait there’s more… (this kind of feels like one of those crazy infomercials):
Jamal Custis also plays on special teams. He actually asked the Syracuse coaching staff going into 2018 if he could contribute on special teams to show NFL teams he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make an NFL roster.

Item: With the 2018-19 sports calendar now complete for football, coming off a rare season of double-digit victories (seven total), the basketball team going one-and-done in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006, and the lacrosse team being knocked out in the first round in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1981-82 (1982 was a non-NCAA lax season). It also means the calendar is creeping closer to the summer months which include instructional camps, ‘Cuse athletes competing in various international competitions, the now-three day ACC football media extravaganza, the basketball team headed to Italy to bond and develop, and the football team’s preseason camp heading into a much anticipated ’19 season, coinciding with college football’s sesquicentennial season.
It’s been just over a month since the Syracuse spring football showcase event, a weekend in which head coach Dino Babers gushed about the quality of athletes that were taking a look at a percolating program setting its sights on a continued rise in the ACC, and making noise on the national stage with its inclusion back in the weekly Top 25 polls.
This much spotlighted fourth year of Babers’ turnaround, with accompanying record ticket sales including a sold-out September visit by big dog Clemson to boot, coincides with college football’s 150th anniversary season, a campaign which will be marked by many celebrations of the sport around the country, dating back to the first-ever college football game played between Princeton and Rutgers in New Brunswick, N.J. on Nov. 6, 1869.
Unlike the sport’s centennial celebration in 1969, and 125th anniversary season in 1994, when teams could decide if they wanted to wear a “100” helmet decal (Syracuse wore a decal) or 125th anniversary patch (Syracuse simply had the number “125” on the right sleeve of its jerseys), all NCAA teams have to be uniform about one of the elements of its uniforms this season – a jersey patch.

Unless you are Clemson, your goal over the long term is to level up your program from your current standing, and the best way to achieve that is through improved recruiting. But actually the odds are that your school’s recruiting isn’t going to change in a substantial way over time.
That’s what ESPN’s David Hale found when he looked at a decade’s worth of recruiting outcomes in the ACC.
There are year-to-year deviations, but the overall trend lines are flat for most. NC State is one of the few that actually shows a decent upward trend, and that’s all thanks to the recruiting efforts of Dave Doeren’s staff.
But they’re also modest gains—NC State is bringing in more talent but it’s not like blue-chip players have become the rule here. The Wolfpack’s classes are still largely made up of three-star kids.
Which is okay—it’s not like this dooms your program to the same win total every year, as Hale points out. Not all three-stars are created equally, and there will always be advantages to be made by identifying talent and fit better than other coaches do. I think we’ve seen that Doeren’s staff does that well. You could argue that Doeren’s classes have been slightly underrated considering how he’s developed kids over the years.

Dabo Swinney has built the Clemson football program from the ground up. Even SEC friendly websites are starting to take notice of what has happened.
It’s certainly a crazy day when an SEC website credits Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney, but that’s exactly what happened on Saturday Down South.
Saturday Down South, one of the most SEC friendly sites on the web, published an article titled ‘You don’t have to like it or agree with it, but Dabo Swinney is the best college football coach in America.”
What an absolutely shocking title coming from a website that has constantly discredited Clemson football over the last few seasons.
As a matter of fact, Saturday Down South was at the forefront of running articles pushing the narrative that Bama’s tough SEC schedule was the reason that the Tigers defeated the Tide in the 2018 National Championship game.
All things considered, this may be one of the first times that we agree with Saturday Down South. Chris Wright, the author of the piece, talks about the fact that Nick Saban is still a great coach and may be the best ever in CFB history, but that Swinney now rules the sport. He was impressed with what Swinney has been able to accomplish, despite the fact that the Tigers haven’t had all the 5-stars that Alabama has consistently brought in.
Really, any person without bias can see that what Dabo Swinney is doing with the Clemson football program is special.

Louisville likely won’t finish with the toughest schedule in the country, but when you have to face two of the four teams that made the 2018 College Football Playoff and play in the ACC, you’re certainly going to be in the conversation.
The college football crew at CBS Sports recently ranked the toughest schedules in the ACC with Lousiville coming in at No. 3.

Scott Satterfield’s first season at Louisville shouldn’t be easy. The Cardinals get Eastern Kentucky and are also playing Western Kentucky in Nashville. Why two Kentucky schools are playing in Nashville is anybody’s guess, but the rest of the noncon includes the season-opener at home against a Notre Dame team that reached the playoff last season and the regular-season finale on the road against a Kentucky team that won 10 games last year. Also, while the Cards get Clemson in Louisville this season, they have to hit the road for Florida State, Miami and NC State.

One of the reasons I hesitate to expect a huge difference in wins from a year ago is because there are only two “gimme games.” EKU and WKU are the only two games on the schedule that I think you can truly expect to win. The other ten games are against teams that are expected to be better than Louisville when it comes to preseason expectations.
To be clear, I’m not saying I think Satterfield will go 2-10 in his first season, but when you look at the majority of the schedule there really isn’t a bad team.
Of the ten power five opponents on Louisville’s 2019 schedule nine won at least seven games in 2018. Florida State was the only ACC opponent that finished with a losing record.
