Welcome to National Angel Food Cake Day!

National Angel Food Cake Day celebrates angel food cake, a cake so named because of its light and fluffy texture. It originated in America, most likely from the Pennsylvania Dutch, and first became known in the 1870's. The first recipe for the cake appeared in The Home Messenger Book of Tested Recipes in 1878. It is a type of sponge cake made without yeast or butter. It consists of flour, sugar, and egg whites, and most often cream of tartar. The egg whites are what give it its airy texture. It is usually baked in a tube pan—a pan with a tube in its center—which allows the batter to rise more easily, and cling to all sides of the pan.
National Angel Food Cake Day is being observed today! It has always been observed annually on October 10th.

Syracuse football at N.C. State: See our picks, make your predictions (PS: Staff)

The Syracuse football team will face N.C. State at 8 p.m. Thursday (ESPN) at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C.

It’s time for our predictions. The panel includes Brent Axe, video and audio engagement; Stephen Bailey, SU football reporter; Nate Mink, SU football reporter; and Dennis Nett, photographer.

Hop in the comments and offer your picks.
BRENT AXE
Syracuse 20, N.C. State 17

The ESPN audience may not like this recipe, but I see a low-scoring, physical matchup between these two teams in primetime. The N.C. State defense is going to come at Tommy DeVito with everything it has. The Pack got to Florida State QB Alex Hornibrook eight times in their last game, and Dave Doeren knows that is the best chance to keep it close against the Orange. N.C. State is a young team and is undergoing a QB transition, so I think Syracuse survives this one with some strong play from its running game and a relentless defensive effort.
STEPHEN BAILEY

N.C. State 31, Syracuse 27

This one is going to get ugly. Two teams banged up, desperate for a win and with some uncertainty at the quarterback position. It could go either way, and if it was in Syracuse, I’d probably pick the Orange. But between SU’s o-line and Tommy DeVito’s injury, I think think the Wolfpack pulls it out.

NATE MINK

Syracuse 23, N.C. State 20

I’d honestly rather spend my night at the new Wegmans.

No one should be surprised if this turns into an offensive maelstrom.

Both offensive lines have tough matchups at scrimmage. N.C. State’s green offense is breaking in a new starting quarterback, putting the onus on its two young tailbacks, Zonovan Knight and Jordan Houston, to carry the load.

Beat‌ ‌writers‌ ‌split‌ ‌on Syracuse's road test against North‌ ‌Carolina‌ ‌State‌ (DO; Staff)

Coming off its first winning streak of the season, Syracuse (3-2, 0-1 Atlantic Coast) travels to Raleigh on Thursday to take on North Carolina State (3-2, 0-1) at 8 p.m. Aside from having identical records, both teams are also coming off their first idle weeks of the season, which SU head coach Dino Babers said came at a “good time” for each team.

While Syracuse is riding a two-game win streak and NC State most recently lost to Florida State, both teams have yet to win a game against a Power 5 opponent and currently sit in the middle of the pack in the ACC. They’re also in different spots at the quarterback position, as SU’s Tommy DeVito is healthy after getting banged up against Holy Cross while the Wolfpack just named Hutchinson Community College transfer Bailey Hockman their starter against the Orange.

Here’s what our beat writers predict will happen when Syracuse visits Carter-Finley Stadium in primetime on Thursday.

Eric Black (4-1)
Crying Wolf
Syracuse 30, North Carolina State 20
Thursday begins the heart of ACC play for the Orange, who finds itself at a crossroads as it nears the midway point of the season. Are they the team that was outscored 104-26 combined against Maryland and Clemson? Or are they the squad that flashed its offensive firepower in its last two games, wins over Western Michigan and Holy Cross? This is the time for SU to silence the critics it accumulated during its pair of losses, and I think it will. Not only is NC State starting an inexperienced quarterback against a Syracuse defense that’s been playing well, but SU’s counterpart, Tommy DeVito, is healthy and prepared after an idle week. I was surprised to see the Orange are underdogs for Thursday’s game, but I don’t think that’ll be a trend moving forward.

Andrew Graham (4-1)
‘He’s the starting quarterback. Next question.’
Syracuse 34, North Carolina State 31
Tommy DeVito is set to start after appearing to tweak his throwing arm late against Holy Cross more than a week ago. Between his abilities compared to North Carolina State’s Bailey Hockman and Syracuse’s defense’s propensity for sacks and turnovers, I have to give SU the slight edge. When pressed about why he kept DeVito in to the point he got hurt in a blowout, Babers took umbrage at the suggestion DeVito shouldn’t have been playing. Well, he’ll be playing Thursday opposite a redshirt sophomore making his first start for NC State and I’ll take that bet. This game is more or less a toss-up on paper, but give me DeVito and Dino Babers’ 2-0 record on Thursdays to stay perfect.

Josh Schafer (4-1)
Thrown to the wolves
North Carolina State 27, Syracuse 24
Through five games Syracuse has struggled to protect the quarterback. On Monday, Dino Babers, declined to provide any additional information on offensive lineman Sam Heckel, adding that the status of all the injured players from before the bye week would likely “stay the same.” With Heckel likely out again, Syracuse will face a North Carolina State defense which ranks 11th in the nation with 18 sacks. If the Wolfpack gets after Tommy DeVito it will be a long game for Syracuse in a night game on the road.

Three keys to get you ready for kickoff between SU Football and NC State (cnycentral.com; Tamurian)

It's a rare Thursday night nationally televised game for Syracuse Football when they take on North Carolina State in Raleigh. It's a pretty even matchup on paper with NC State favored by three points when it's widely considered that home-field advantage is worth about three points when it comes to the Vegas oddsmakers.

That said, with such a game that can really go either way, I'm highlighting three keys to watch for in the matchup with the Orange and Wolfpack.

#3- DeVito's Continued Progress

Tommy Devito gave the thumbs up to Dino Babers after the Holy Cross win and said on Sunday he's good to go.

So now, all that's left is to focus on his progress.

DeVito has shown growth in every game with extra poise and presence with every passing game.
You could make the argument that happened because it was against Western Michigan and Holy Cross and not Clemson and Maryland, but I would argue that he made Western Michigan and Holy Cross look a little worse with his performance.
The answer will ultimately be settled when Syracuse takes on NC State at 8:00 p.m. in Raleigh. The Orange does have the edge at quarterback with NC State's starter in the first five games being demoted to 3rd string and Bailey Hockman making his first start.

#2- Thursday Night hostile atmosphere

Will The Cisco Kid Ride?

Syracuse football: Three keys for Thursday night showdown at N.C. State (D&C; Johnson)

Syracuse returns from a much-needed off week with a prime time battle with North Carolina State on ESPN Thursday night.

It's the start of a three-game defining stretch for the Orange that includes a road trip to Florida State and a Friday night game against Pittsburgh next week.

This will be redshirt sophomore Tommy DeVito's first start on the road in ACC play and Syracuse (3-2, 0-1 ACC) will enter Raleigh as underdogs.

The Orange prevailed in a thrilling 51-41 shootout against the Wolfpack (3-2, 0-1 ACC) last year and head coach Dino Babers is expecting another tight game.

"I think anytime we play someone that is familiar with us, we've gone back and looked at it and I'm sure they have as well. (Dave Doeren) is a good coach... The defense is very good. It has some Western Virginia type qualities to it," Babers said. "Whatever defense they decide to play, we'll have to be ready for it."

Here are three keys for the Thursday's crucial conference game:

Orange injuries

The off week was supposed to be a reprieve for Syracuse to get some of its top players back for conference play. The Orange received good news when DeVito announced he was good to go, but at Babers' press conference Monday the status of other top contributors wasn't as positive.

Associated Press All-American Andre Cisco and the Orange's lead cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu have missed the last two games with lower-body injuries.

Ten things to know about NC State (247sports.com; McAllister)

Syracuse and NC State are set to square off in a key ACC matchup. Syracuse football currently sits at 3-2 (0-1) after five games of the 2019 regular season. That includes a season opening shutout win at Liberty, blowout losses at Maryland and at home to Clemson, and back to back wins over Western Michigan and Holy Cross. The five game stretch almost feels like twice that number, given the ups, downs, question marks and injuries that have struck the Orange in less than half of a season.

In the last two games alone, Syracuse has been missing starting defensive backs Andre Cisco (a pre-season All American) and Ifeatu Melifonwu (beat out a returning senior), defensive tackle McKinley Williams and center Sam Heckel. Williams has yet to play a down this season, forcing Syracuse to play without a key force in the middle of a talented defensive line. Heckel played briefly at the beginning of the season opener against Liberty, and has not played since. The loss of Heckel forces Syracuse's best offensive lineman, Airon Servais, to move back to center and puts a lot of pressure on a redshirt freshman as a result.

Syracuse was off for week six, taking advantage of the bye week in order to try get healthy and prepared for the first of seven straight Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponents. The Orange travel south to Raleigh (N.C.) to face NC State for a Thursday night matchup that will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. Syracuse would love to get the win and improve to 4-2 on the season, whereas a loss would drop the Orange to 3-3, and put even more pressure on the subsequent Friday night matchup with rival Pittsburgh.

The Wolfpack opened as four point favorites over the Orange, and they currently sit at 3-2 on the season as well. As the Syracuse at NC State game approaches, here is a look at 10 things to know about the Orange's opponent.

TWO HEADED QB MONSTER
Bailey Hockman will make his first collegiate start on Thursday. He is a former four star quarterback prospect who signed with Florida State. He left the Seminoles and went JUCO for a year before becoming the top ranked JUCO quarterback and signing with NC State. He did not win the starting job to start the season, but after playing a bit here and there through the first four games, he threw 40 passes, completed 21, racked up over 200 passing yards including a passing touchdown against Florida State. While he will start against Syracuse, former four star Devin Leary will also see action.

"Bailey Hockman will start for us at quarterback,” NC State head coach Dave Doeren said. “Devin [Leary], who also came in to the game at Florida State and did a good job, will have an opportunity. I feel like they are giving us more in the pass game."

Syracuse Orange v. NC State Wolfpack Predictions (10/10/19) - The Juice Online (the juice; Staff)

Syracuse will enter the heart of its ACC schedule when it travels to play NC State Thursday evening (8:00 p.m. ET / ESPN). Ahead of the game, The Juice Online’s Brad Bierman and Jim Stechschulte give their predictions below.

BRAD BIERMAN (Season Record: 2-1):
The last game image we have of Syracuse quarterback Tommy DeVito was him rushing off the field minus his helmet and some pads late in the win over Holy Cross Sept. 28. But he said earlier this week he’s good to go, ready and amped for games six through nine, before another open week Nov. 9.

So while the story of the SU quarterback is one looking to build off the momentum of two straight wins and record a rare ACC road win (SU is 5-15 on the road in ACC play) in what will likely be a loud atmosphere on Military Appreciation Night in Raleigh, the Wolfpack are rebuilding at the QB position, if you will, naming southpaw Bailey Hockman the new starter following his 21-for-40/208 yard passing performance in NCSU’s 31-13 loss to Florida State also Sept. 28.

Hockman will be in the hairs of the Orange pass rush as he tries to get the Pack passing attack going, and will face an Orange secondary still likely to be without two starters to injury. But we think the Syracuse defense will do what it does best; cause a turnover or two, and provide DeVito and company with good field position.

DeVito will take advantage, finding multiple receivers both on short and long range throws, and North Carolina native Moe Neal will have a second-to-last homecoming hurrah (SU still plays at Duke in Nov.) with a beautiful TD run, which will help propel the Orange in the fourth quarter – Syracuse 31, North Carolina State 24.

JIM STECHSCHULTE
(Season Record: 2-0): While it was noteworthy that North Carolina State announced a quarterback change this week, more concerning to Syracuse are the Wolfpack’s stingy run defense and strong pass rush, as well as their emphasis on ball security.

Syracuse Football: 3 bold predictions vs. NC State in Week 7 (saturdayblitz.com; Muldowney)

1. Syracuse pulls off the road win

Before the season, predicting a win on the road against NC State would have been as safe as it could get, but with the way the Orange have played in the first half of the year, it’s no longer a “gimme”.

The Orange are just 3-2 and 0-1 in ACC play and the Wolfpack are actually 4.5-point favorites in Raleigh. A lot has changed since the first week of the season but the Orange are just too talented to keep heading down this path toward mediocrity and Dino Babers is too good a coach.

Coming off a bye week and riding a two-game winning streak, I believe the Orange will come out motivated and ready to pull off the road upset behind the arm of Tommy DeVito, legs of Abdul Adams and Moe Neal and the hands of Trishton Jackson and Taj Harris.

The defense still has plenty of work to do, but getting brand-new starter Bailey Hockman in a Thursday night game could actually play into the Orange’s favor.

Watch out, Wolfpack, the Orange are ready to show why they began the season ranked and prove that they’re not just a layup anymore.

Syracuse Football: Week 7 NC State Wolfpack crystal ball predictions (itlh; Esden Jr)

Syracuse football kicks off its ACC conference schedule in earnest vs NC State on Thursday. Here are some crystal ball predictions ahead of the contest.
Two 3-2 teams will enter Carter-Finley Stadium on Thursday night, only one team will come out above .500.

Syracuse football (3-2) has defeated the likes of Liberty, Western Michigan, and Holy Cross. While the NC State Wolfpack (3-2) has defeated East Carolina, Western Carolina, and Ball State.

Neither team has secured a staple win so far in 2019, but now with both squads entering the meaty ACC schedule, now is a better time than ever. Dino Babers in his Monday presser called this contest “a pivotal swing game for both programs.”

Per the ESPN FPI Analytics, NC State is favored to win by 59.2 percent and the vegas line has expanded to five points. It opened as a 4.5 point line.

NC State turns to QB Bailey Hoffman for game vs Syracuse :: WRALSportsFan.com (wralsportsfan.com)

North Carolina State hopes a new quarterback will lead to some bigger passing plays — and to a win against Syracuse.

Bailey Hockman will make his first start for the Wolfpack (3-2, 0-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) when they play host to the Orange (3-2, 0-1) on Thursday night.

Coach Dave Doeren moved Matthew McKay, who started the first five games, to the third string while elevating Hockman to the first-string role and making promising redshirt freshman Devin Leary his backup.
N.C. State beat three outmanned opponents at home but is 0-2 against Power Five conference teams, losing last month at West Virginia and at Florida State.

"You either fight or you fail. We're going to fight," Doeren said. "That's how we're made here. These guys are going to stick together and they're going to compete. We're going to try to find solutions and stay positive."

Syracuse has taken a similar mindset after dropping from the national rankings following a two-game losing streak in which the Orange were outscored 104-26 by Maryland and then-top-ranked Clemson.

At the very least, they don't seem to have any question at QB, with Tommy DeVito established as the starter. The sophomore ranks fourth in the ACC in passing (246.8 ypg), prompting coach Dino Babers to concede that "we're in a better situation maybe with our quarterback situation than they are."
"I think this is a really pivotal swing game for both programs," Babers said.

Some other things to know about the Syracuse-N.C. State game:

PASSING FANCY

The Wolfpack throw it frequently, ranking second in the ACC with an average of 41.4 passes, but are last in the conference with an average of just six yards per attempt. Only eight of N.C. State's completions have gone for 20 or more yards, and only four FBS schools have fewer. The Wolfpack's longest pass play of the year was a 48-yard touchdown from McKay to Tabari Hines in the opening victory over East Carolina.

Let’s get to know Syracuse with some help from Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician (backingthepack.com; Muma)

This week I caught up with John Cassillo, who is the managing editor of Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician. Find John’s answers to my questions below, and I’ve also answered some questions about NC State for John that will be up at NunesMagician.com.

BTP: So about that Maryland game ... was that a situation where you just toss the whole thing in the trash and forget about it, or was there something you could learn from it about the nature of this Syracuse team?

JC: The next few games should probably tell us whether it was just a weird confluence of events and Syracuse’s coaching staff got caught looking ahead to Clemson a little too much, or this team’s about to implode. Going into 2019, we knew the offensive line was a question mark and the linebackers were a bit green, and that game seemed to show both issues out in full force. Both groups haven’t necessarily gotten THAT much better since then, but have had their moments. So... TBD still, I guess.

BTP: How do y’all feel about the transition to Tommy DeVito this year? Is he playing up to expectations?

JC: On the one hand, the aforementioned offensive line issues have made it tough for him to get a lot of time to throw (obviously a big problem for a pocket passer). On the other, DeVito can force things here and there, and that’s happened a few times as he’s panicked a bit instead of stepping up into the pocket. Expectations around DeVito were probably a little too high going into the season. But for a first-time starter, I think he’s actually performed reasonably well given the circumstances. Eric Dungey’s a tough act to follow, and DeVito can still do a really great job under center without trying to be him.

BTP: Syracuse’s ground game hasn’t been as effective as it was last year--how much of that has to do with Eric Dungey’s departure? What else is going on there?

JC: Feel like this entire Q&A’s going to be about the offensive line, but that’s because it’s a major part of this year’s struggles as we replace three of five starters from last year and also suffered an injury to starting center Sam Heckel in week one and haven’t seen him since.

ACC 'carnival' in Coastal Division poised for wild finish (ESPN; AP)

Chaos is brewing in the ACC's Coastal Division once again.

With the midpoint of the regular season approaching, the Atlantic Coast Conference race is shaping up with prohibitive favorite Clemson sitting atop the Atlantic Division and more unpredictability dominating the Coastal.

Nothing can be taken for granted. Two teams in the up-and-down division blew 20-point leads on the same day -- and still managed to win.

The division seems poised for another wacky stretch run to sort out which of the Coastal's mostly mediocre members will earn the right to most likely lose to the second-ranked Tigers in the title game.

"You're at a carnival going onto one of the rides -- now here is the Coastal ride," Virginia coach Bronco Mendenhall quipped. "And holy cow, you never know what's going to happen when you're on that ride."
A week into October, and his 20th-ranked Cavaliers (4-1, 2-0) are the lone Coastal team without a league loss.

Looking at the history of the division, the Cavaliers aren't likely to finish that way.

Since the ACC expanded to 14 teams in 2013, the only Coastal champion to finish 8-0 in league play was North Carolina in 2015. Meanwhile, four other division winners had two league losses. Last year's winner, Pittsburgh, had an overall record of 7-7.

"When I say (it's) even, a lot of people think of that as a bunch of average teams," Duke coach David Cutcliffe said. "It's not."

No Coastal team has won the league championship since Virginia Tech in 2010. Florida State and Clemson have combined for four undefeated finishes in ACC play and all eight titles during that timeframe.
That is the key difference between the divisions.

For much of the past decade, the ACC as a whole -- and the Atlantic Division in particular -- has been dominated by one powerhouse program, either the Seminoles or Clemson.
The Coastal has been a free-for-all, with six different champions in six years. The only team that hasn't won it in that stretch -- Virginia -- currently holds first place. And only once since 2013 has a Coastal team has finished in the top 10 of the final AP Top 25, when Georgia Tech ended 2014 at No. 8.

Louisville football: Three reasons why the Cards will defeat Wake Forest (BRL; Lane)

Coming off of a big win against Boston College, Louisville football will look for their first road victory of the season against no. 19 Wake Forest.

Who’d a thunk in 2019 we’d see Wake Forest ranked in the top 25, after a 5-0 start to their season, while Louisville football looks for their first road win of the season? But here we are.

In fact – when Louisville travels to Winston Salem, North Carolina on Saturday to take on the no. 19 Demon Deacons, the Cards will be looking to an end an extremely ugly streak.

That will be to put an end to the five-game losing streak against ranked ACC teams on the road. Actually, a win against Wake Forest would be Louisville’s FIRST win against a ranked opponent within conference play since joining the ACC back in 2014.

Crazy enough, despite the big start for Wake Forest and Dave Clawson, Louisville will have a chance to pick up their first signature win on Saturday as they kick off a stretch of three games against top 25 teams.
The Wake Forest defense is statistically close to the same range as Boston College was heading into last week’s game, and well.. we all saw how that went. Micale Cunningham will be back after suffering an injury late in the game on Saturday and looks to be the starter despite the strong play from Evan Conley.

Much like last week, Wake Forest’s offense will test the improvement of Louisville’s defense, specifically in what Scott Satterfield calls “gap integrity” as well as stopping big plays through the air.

Dave Clawson’s weird-ish take on the popular run, pass, offense challenges defenses to be patient and trust their eyes, while simultaneously taping into a football player’s instincts of wanting to make a play. If Louisville’s not careful in paying patiently and staying within themselves, they could be susceptible to giving up a ton of big plays.

They’ve had a lot of success this season with moving the football through the air behind emerging star quarterback Jamie Newman and wide receivers Sage Surratt and Scotty Washington and I would expect them to take advantage of what looked like a bad secondary last week against Boston College.

Virginia vs. Miami Football Prediction and Preview (athlonsports.com; Staley)

Cavaliers look to maintain lead in ACC Coastal when they take on the struggling Hurricanes on Friday night

The Virginia Cavaliers and the Miami Hurricanes find themselves on the opposite ends of the ACC Coastal Division as they prepare to square off against one another on Friday night. While the Cavaliers (4-1, 2-0 ACC) will be looking to hang on to their lead in the division, the Hurricanes (2-3, 0-2) hope to pick up their first conference win of 2019.

Virginia hasn't played since its 35-20 loss in South Bend to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Before that game, the Cavaliers had won their first four games of the season.

Miami, on the other hand, has struggled after many expected them to be among the favorites in the Coastal Division. The Hurricanes' latest loss came in heartbreaking fashion against the Virginia Tech Hokies. After the Canes fought their way back to tie the game with 3:16 left, the Hokies scored a game-winning touchdown with 1:03 left in regulation to secure the win. Now, the Hurricanes will try to avoid going 0-3 in the ACC.

Miami leads the all-time series 9-7 over Virginia. However, the Cavaliers defeated the Hurricanes 16-13 last season in Charlottesville.

Sports clips: Former NFL vet Frase returns to his NH roots (seacoastonline.com; Whaley)

Paul Frase was a football late bloomer, picking up the sport as a Spaulding High School freshman in 1980. Eight years later he was in the National Football League, the beginning of a stellar career that spanned 11 seasons with four different teams.

Frase, 54, returned to his New Hampshire roots this past summer, helping out a friend at a youth summer camp in Freedom on Lake Ossipee.

After the summer camp was over, Camp Robin Hood hosted six high school teams for mini double-session camps, including Somersworth. That was right in Frase’s wheelhouse.

“I haven’t been back to New Hampshire for 35 years, since my high school days,” said Frase, a native of Barrington who graduated from Spaulding in 1983.

Frase has lived in Jacksonville, Fla., since the 1990s, where he played for the Jaguars for two seasons (1995 and 1996). Frase and his family didn’t travel much mostly due to his son, Joshua, being born with a severe muscle disorder in 1995. It claimed his life in December of 2010.

Frase was approached by a friend who works for the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) and whose grandfather helped to start Camp Robin Hood in 1927.

“A friend of mine said I needed to get out of the Florida heat and go up to New Hampshire,” Frase said. “The camp needed some help. One of the guys was going through some medical issues and I was just coming up there to try and help out and try and help my buddy out.”

It was win-win for Frase.

The camp experience was great and he got to visit with his parents, who still live in Deerfield, on numerous occasions.

“We were just at Newick’s Restaurant,” he said. “That was our favorite place growing up.”

For Frase on the football front there was a chance to talk with young football players, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

“It was really cool to get to share a little bit of experiences from playing, my high school days and college and NFL days with the local football teams.”

Eric Dungey is Not Done Yet – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Gross)

Tough. Resilient. Dogged. All words that were frequently used to describe Eric Dungey during his four years as Syracuse’s starting QB. A bit less than a year removed from his college playing days, Dungey is showing his persistence once again.

After being cut by the Giants in training camp and taking part-time jobs with ESPN Radio and TK99 in Syracuse, Dungey’s playing career seemed in doubt. Turns out, Dungey could be drafted after all.
Ready to compete. Ready to Win. Who’s got me? @XFLRoughnecks @XFLBattleHawks @XFLRenegades @XFLDragons @XFLDefenders @XFLVipers @XFLWildcats @XFLGuardians https://t.co/18I0Urp49e

The XFL, owned by media mogul Vince McMahon, will return for the first time since its lone season in 2001. Dungey is in the draft pool along with his former wide receiver Erv Phillips.

Most Orange alumni will be hoping Dungey lands with the New York Guardians, who call Metlife Stadium home. A west-coast return could be in store for the Oregon product if Seattle’s Dragons are enticed by Dungey.

The XFL draft is October 15-16th. The results will be announced via social media.

View photos of Vince Vaughn filming ‘The Binge’ in Syracuse’s Hanover Square (PS; Schild)

Vince Vaughn drew a small crowd on Wednesday night in Hanover Square. Vaughn is in town filming “The Binge," directed by Jeremy Garelick, an adventure-comedy twist on the premise of “The Purge.” Set in a world where all drugs and alcohol are illegal except one night a year, the film follows three friends as they become eligible to participate in the Big Binge Party for the first time.

Hanover Square was turned into a huge party zone with colorful treatments on steps and the fountain. Banners advertised the 2032 Binge Library Party.

Production on the movie began last month at the former A.V. Zogg Middle School in Liverpool, now known as Syracuse Studios. American High, the Hollywood-backed film studio in Liverpool, N.Y., has been filming for about five weeks in the area.

The cast also includes Skyler Gisondo (“Santa Clarita Diet”), Eduardo Franco (“American Vandal”), Dexter Darden (“The Maze Runner”), Zainne Saleh (“The Night Shift”) and Grace Van Dien, the daughter of “Starship Troopers” actor Casper Van Dien.

“The Binge” has been sold to Hulu for an undisclosed amount. A release date has not been announced.
