Welcome
to Clashing Clothes Day!

When something clashes, it comes into conflict with, or disagrees with something else. In today's instance, the things that are clashing are the colors on clothes. On most days the goal is to make clothes match, but not today! Today is Clashing Clothes Day!
How to Observe

In order to make sure you are getting your clothes to clash, start by avoiding neutral colors such as black, white, and gray. Navy and brown also match well with a lot of other colors, so don't wear them either. Then mix three or four other colors and see what you can come up with. You'll be clashing in no time!

C-NS running back lands offer from Colorado State (PS; Curtis)

Cicero-North Syracuse running back Mike Washington has received a scholarship offer from Colorado State University.

“All the hard work in the offseason is paying off,” Washington said. “Getting a D-1 offer is a blessing in itself.”

It was Washington’s first offer.

Northstars coach Dave Kline contacted multiple coaches across the country, including Colorado State coach Steve Addazio and running backs coach Brian White.

Addazio, who was fired by Boston College last month and hired 10 days later by Colorado State, served as tight end coach and offensive line coach at Syracuse University from 1995-98. White spent two seasons as the Orange’s offensive coordinator from 2005-07.

After a few conversations with Kline and Washington, Addazio extended a full-scholarship offer to the All-CNY running back.

Washington also made the 2019 all-state third team, finishing his junior season with 1,423 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 179 carries. As a receiver, he totaled 13 receptions for 150 yards and two scores. He made 31 tackles and intercepted three passes on defense.

SU football schedule: Road tests at BC, Rutgers are huge for recruiting (PS; Mink)

The 2020 Syracuse football schedule is out.

For those who missed it ...

  • Sept. 4 (Friday): at Boston College
  • Sept. 12: at Rutgers
  • Sept. 19: vs. Colgate
  • Sept. 26: at Western Michigan
  • Oct. 3: vs. Louisville
  • Oct. 10: Bye week
  • Oct. 17: vs. Liberty
  • Oct. 24: at Clemson
  • Oct. 31: vs. Georgia Tech
  • Nov. 7: at Wake Forest
  • Nov. 14: vs. North Carolina State
  • Nov. 19 (Thursday): vs. Florida State
  • Nov. 28: at Pittsburgh
Here are some initial musings:

Northeast bragging rights — and more — on the line early

Syracuse opens the season on a Friday night at Boston College.

Then it stays on the road for a trip to Rutgers.

These two Northeast outposts, both led by first-year coaches, are going to be thirsty to carry the early recruiting bump into 2021.

And there is little that drives SU fans more crazy than losses to Boston College or Rutgers.

The Orange has traded punches with BC since joining the ACC in 2013.

This year’s meeting with Rutgers, part of a home-and-home, will be the first since 2012. The Scarlet Knights, the laughingstock of college football since then, are looking to rehabilitate its program under Greg Schiano.

Given how the rest of September shapes up — home against Colgate and on the road at Western Michigan — these two games are largely going to dictate how excited people get in the build-up to the ACC home opener against Louisville in the first weekend of October.

Stockpile the wins early

On that note, the front end of the schedule is ideal for stockpiling wins on the road to bowl eligibility.

Can it do so by Halloween?

Seven thoughts on the 2020 ACC football schedule (tampabay.com; Baker)

Now that the ACC has finally released the full football schedules for 2020, here are seven thoughts on how things shook out for Florida State, Miami and the rest of the ACC.

The Mike Norvell era begins with a tough start

FSU opens in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium against West Virginia, which should get a bump in Year 2 under coach Neal Brown. After a cupcake (Samford), the Seminoles travel to Boise State (which knocked them off last year in Tallahassee). Then, after an open date, FSU goes to North Carolina (where the Seminoles historically struggle) before hosting superpower Clemson. That’s four losable matchups in the first five games — not the kind of soft open a new coach might want.

Syracuse is a trap

Don't take Dino Babers' Syracuse squad lightly, even if the record is subpar.
Assuming the Orange improves from last year’s 5-7 dud, FSU’s Nov. 19 game at Syracuse feels like a trap. The ’Noles have a short week to prepare for a road game in a tough venue where weird things happen, like the air conditioning going out of a dome named after an HVAC company (Carrier) in FSU’s 23-point blowout loss two years ago.

Reactions from Packer and Durham’s Mark Packer and Wes Durham on the 2020 ACC Football Schedule - ESPN Press Room U.S. (espnpressroom.com; Ufnowski)

Mark Packer and Wes Durham, hosts of ACC Network’s weekday morning show Packer and Durham (7-10 a.m. ET), unveiled the 2020 ACC football schedule Wednesday morning. Quotes and reactions from the duo as they provided quick analysis of each team’s schedule during the 9 a.m. hour of the show are below.

Overall

Packer: I do think, given the national narrative, the conference has an incredible opportunity early in 2020 to make a stand and a statement, and change the national narrative. There are so many important nonconference games early in this season… The only way you can do it is win.

Packer: There are so many early games to make a statement for this league. This league has scheduled teams of note. Not everyone does this. Not everyone schedules this way. I think it is a smart thing for the league. The only way you get better is to beat better teams.

Packer: The question is ‘can the ACC win some of those games of note?’.

Durham: October is proving to be a very interesting month. It looks like a juggernaut.

Durham: Before you get to November and you want to circle big weekends – pencil in September 26th – Miami is at Michigan State, Virginia is at Clemson, Notre Dame plays Wake Forest in Charlotte, Georgia Tech and North Carolina at Kenan Stadium.

Durham: Putting this puzzle together is an arduous task.

ACC Atlantic Division

Boston College

Packer: What pops off the screen is this – when I think of Boston, I think of cold, tough physical football and I look at this schedule and at November … three of the four (games) are away from Chestnut Hill. The only team that who makes a frigid appearance in the Northeast is North Carolina.

Clemson

Packer: It should be pointed out that on Halloween, Clemson isn’t playing. Why is that a big deal? They will get two weeks to prepare for Notre Dame on the road, which I think is the biggest game in the ACC for 2020.
...
...
NC State

Packer: At Louisville and Mississippi State… for a team that won four games last year… a lot of talk about Dave Doeren changing staff and everything else. They will be trying to get off to a quick start – it will be very interesting in Raleigh early in the season.

Packer: NC State having to open at Louisville is a great game for both sides to see where they are.

Packer: This is a pivotal time for Dave Doeren’s guys to get off to a good start. For years we have talked about a soft early season schedule for NC State … it’s going to be bit different this go around because the Louisville game is going to be a test, and obviously what Mississippi State and Mike Leach, and what he will bring offensively, will be a big challenge. It will be a cool SEC/ACC game in Raleigh.

Syracuse

Packer: I like this game (Syracuse at Boston College) these two know each other, their fanbases know each other, regardless of where this game is played and when it is played, both fanbases will be tuned in to this game. I love the fact that it is an opener.

Wake Forest

Packer: This is the game that pops – that Appalachian State game – those two quite frankly just don’t like each other. That will be some kind of scene in Winston-Salem.

Breaking down Pitt football's 2020 ACC schedule (post-gazette.comi; McGonigal)

Good news, Panther fans: Pitt doesn't open its 2020 season against the ACC Coastal division favorites. But the conference slate is hardly kind to Pat Narduzzi's squad.

We knew for a while now whom the Panthers would play and where in the ACC. But on Wednesday morning, we crucially found out when as the conference (finally) announced where the scheduling chips fell.

Pitt, eyeing a second Coastal crown in three seasons, opens its 2020 conference slate on Sept. 26 against Duke at home. It hosts Virginia Tech on Nov. 6, Pitt's first non-Thanksgiving Friday game at Heinz Field — which Narduzzi probably isn't happy about. And his squad later welcomes Syracuse for the regular season finale on Nov. 28.

The Panthers' off week — there's only one this year, not two like 2019 — comes in between their game at Miami on Oct. 3 and their home tilt against Notre Dame on Oct. 17.

As far as trickiest tests, Pitt's three road games in four weeks as the season nears its end — at Florida State (Oct. 31), at North Carolina (Nov. 14) and at Virginia (Nov. 21) — stand out.

Accompanied by some early analysis, here is Pitt's 2020 schedule in full, including the non-conference opponents, dates and locations, all of which had been previously announced.

All times are TBA.

Saturday, Sept. 5 vs. Miami (Ohio)

Thoughts: After facing Ohio — the 2019 Mid-American Conference favorites — in the non-conference last season, Pitt welcomes the defending MAC champion for its season opener. The Redhawks (8-6 in 2019) featured a respectable 40th-ranked pass defense. But Miami (Ohio) has never defeated a Power Five program in eight tries under head coach Chuck Martin.

Ranking ACC's Top 10 games for 2020 season (247sports.com; Crawford)

Fresh off a better-than-expect first season in Chapel Hill, North Carolina coach Mack Brown and the Tar Heels received the rare Friday night double-whammy next fall after the ACC's official 2020 football schedule release on Wednesday.

North Carolina will open on Sept. 4 against UCF on the road and takes on rival North Carolina State the day after Thanksgiving, much to Brown's dismay.

"We do not like playing on Friday nights because Friday night is for high school football," Brown said in a statement. "The schedule is out of our control. Our TV partners dictate these types of things. We have requested that our TV partners and the conference make our Friday game after Thanksgiving an afternoon game to avoid going head-to-head with the high school games."

The marquee prime-time spotlight is great exposure for a program in transition, one of several ACC teams this season playing an early out-of-conference matchup with national significance.

Five-time defending ACC champion Clemson won't face a nationally-ranked team during conference play unless Florida State or Virginia starts off hot. The Tigers' most challenging matchup comes out-of-conference at Notre Dame on Nov. 7, a matchup that will undoubtedly have College Football Playoff significance for two preseason title contenders.

ACC schedules 8 Friday games for 2020 football (fayobserver.com; Batten)

A collection of Friday games, including the annual North Carolina-N.C. State rivalry, will be part of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s 2020 football schedule.

ACC teams will play eight games on Friday, five of which will involved North Carolina members. Highlighting those involving in-state schools are the Nov. 27 matchup between the Tar Heels and Wolfpack in Chapel Hill, defending Coastal Division champion Virginia at Duke on Nov. 13 and Appalachian State at Wake Forest on Sept. 11.

UNC will be involved in two of the Friday night affairs, but the first will be a road game to start the season Sept. 4 at Central Florida.

Colleges playing Friday night games have been frowned upon through the years by high school officials who traditionally play their games on Fridays. UNC coach Mack Brown expressed displeasure with the scheduling in a statement released by the school, but noted the decision was out of the school’s control due to TV contracts.

“We do not like playing on Friday nights because Friday night is for high school football, and we’ve always believed that,″ Brown said. “North Carolina high school football is at the top of our list when it comes to things that are important to us. We really don’t like being in a position where we could take away from the great coaches and players in our state because they’re our lifeblood and deserve to have the spotlight on Friday nights.

“As most know by now, the schedule is out of our control. Our TV partners dictate these types of things, so we’ll do what we’re told, but we would rather Friday night be sacred for high schools. We have requested that our TV partners and the conference make our Friday game after Thanksgiving an afternoon game to avoid going head-to-head with the high school games. Hopefully, that is something they will accommodate, because it’s important, especially on a weekend where there will be playoff games taking place.″

The other Friday game involving an in-state school occurs Oct. 9 when Miami plays at Wake Forest.

Other schedule schedule highlights for the four North Carolina ACC programs include N.C. State’s season opener on Thursday, Sept. 3rd at home against Louisville, North Carolina’s Sept. 12 showdown against Southeastern Conference member Auburn in Atlanta, the North Carolina at Duke rivalry game on Oct. 17, and the rivalry matchup of Wake Forest at Duke on Oct. 3.

2020 ACC FB Schedule: BYEs (RX; HM)

2020 ACC FB Schedule: BYEs

This year was undoubtedly tougher than last year as far as accommodating BYE requests, simply because there's only one BYE in a 13-week schedule. Additionally, some teams made special requests to the ACC office, such as a bye after a long away trip (FSU) or before playing Notre Dame (Clemson). However, for the most part, byes were scheduled in pairs, so that both teams were coming off a bye when they play each other (see exceptions below).

2020 ACC FOOTBALL SCHEDULE: BYES
No BYEs before WEEK 4

WEEK 4 Saturday, Sept. 26
FSU (after trip to Boise, before NC State)

WEEK 5 Saturday, Oct. 3
(No Byes)

WEEK 6 Saturday, Oct. 10
Ga Tech, Virginia (before each other)
Pitt (before Notre Dame)
Syracuse (before Liberty)

WEEK 7 Saturday, Oct. 17
BC, VT (before each other, THU game)
Louisville (before FSU)
Miami (before UNC)

WEEK 8 Saturday, Oct. 24
Duke, Notre Dame (before each other)
NC State, Wake (before each other)

WEEK 9 Saturday, Oct. 31
Clemson (before Notre Dame)
UNC (before UConn)

No BYEs after WEEK 9.

UNEVEN BYEs
Since Florida State is using it's bye early, it stands to reason that the Noles have an uneven bye situation - and they do. FSU has a bye before playing NC State, but the Wolfpack will be coming off a game against Delaware (OK, not a big deal!). Then, when FSU plays Louisville, the Cardinals will be coming off a bye while the Noles will not. It is what it is.

FSU is not the only team thus disadvantaged. UNC also faces a team coming off a bye (Miami) while themselves playing the week before (at Duke).

Clemson is another team which could've had an uneven bye thanks to using theirs before traveling to Notre Dame (a wise move in my opinion), but the ACC protected them - no one has a bye before playing the Tigers. The same is true of Pitt, who also uses their bye before Notre Dame.

ACC Teams disadvantaged by byes:
NC State (vs. FSU)
Florida State (vs. Louisville)
N. Carolina (vs. Miami)

Top 2020 Freshmen - 1/22/20 (RX; HM)

Top 2020 Freshmen - 1/22/20

From a Banner Society "The Read Option" newsletter...

I spent a week in early January between Orlando and San Antonio to watch the best of 2020's best college freshmen compete against each other. All of the recruits in the Under Armour All-America Game and the All-American Bowl are elite, but [these] stood out among those elites...
Here are highlights from the ACC-related comments:
QB: Clemson signee DJ Uiagalelei... has one of the stronger arms you’ll ever see... a massive figure at 6’5, 250. He threw an absolute dime of 50 yards while fading away...

RB: one name stood out: Jahmyr Gibbs. The Georgia product has a compact build and is lightning quick. He is “committed to,” but not signed with, Georgia Tech, and other players at the All-American Bowl certainly didn’t think he’ll be a Yellow Jacket. His burst reminds me a bit of Dalvin Cook’s. Ohio State, Florida, and LSU are in the mix, to name a few.

WR: UNC signee Josh Downs... not the biggest or fastest player, yet he is sure-handed and always open whenever I see him.

OL: Clemson guard signee Paul Tchio is all smiles off the field, but when the pads come on, he is on defenders in an instant thanks to his athleticism. Kudos to Miami offensive tackle signee Jalen Rivers, who looks to have shed the bad weight he was carrying in the spring. Lighter and quicker, he looked like the player I thought he would become when he came on my radar as a sophomore.

DL: Clemson has the best defensive line class since... a decade ago... signees Myles Murphy, Bryan Bresee, and Demonte Capehart did not disappoint. Bresee is the most college-ready of the group: a three- or four-tech down lineman with amazing three-down ability. Murphy might have the highest upside with his size, length, and flexibility. And Capehart is one of the best tackles in the nation.

LB: (none for the ACC)

DB: FSU signee Demorie Tate, who has not played as much cornerback as others, held his own nicely.
In other words, Clemson is going to be LOADED again!

Clemson's 2020 Football Schedule Is Getting Criticized (thespun.com; Lyons)

for gbo

This morning, the ACC announced its football schedule for the 2020 season. Clemson fans now know what will stand between them and a return to the College Football Playoff.

The team will open up on Thursday, Sept. 3 on the road at Georgia Tech.

Nine days later, the Tigers have their home opener, in yet another ACC game. Louisville is heading to Death Valley after an impressive season for the Cardinals.

Interestingly, the Tigers’ non-conference games are a bit backloaded, while most teams start their season with mostly non-conference opponents. Clemson’s first is on Sept. 19 against Akron, with the others—at Notre Dame, vs. The Citadel, and vs. South Carolina—all in November.

Unsurprisingly, Tiger fans are catching heat for their schedule once again. The weak ACC has been a criticism over the last two years, though it hasn’t hurt Clemson much, as the Tigers won the 2018 National Championship and finished as the national runner-up in 2019.

Honestly, the criticism is pretty overblown for this upcoming slate.

Dave Matthews Band tour dates include Syracuse, SPAC concerts (PS; Herbert)

Dave Matthews Band is returning to Syracuse this summer.

DMB announced its 2020 tour dates Wednesday, including a July 22 concert at the St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview. No opening act has been named; show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Feb. 21 at 10 a.m. through Live Nation and Ticketmaster; prices range from $45.50 to $115, plus fees.

Presale tickets are available to fan club members starting Thursday at warehouse.davematthewsband.com.

Dave Matthews Band last played the St. Joe’s Amp in 2016 and 2018. DMB sold out the 2016 concert and was near capacity in 2018, when traffic and shuttle issues prevented some fans from arriving before the show started.

Dave Matthews Band is the 16th concert announced for 2020 at the St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview. Live Nation said it expects to announce between 20 and 25 concerts for the Amp this year.

DMB will also play two nights at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) in Saratoga Springs on July 10-11.
