He would still need a waiver approved by the NCAA to play in 2020. How did it come to this for the once-dominant Trojan football program, and what does that have to do with Virginia Tech? Jason Kirk over at Banner Society compared every FBS team’s 2020 class to its recruiting baseline [SOURCE]. The program that stood out the most was USC. Of course, brand-new coaches hired near or after the end of the season usually struggled to put together a recruiting class - that's normal (and doesn't apply to USC or VT). Jason found that some schools (like Texas and OU, Miami and Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee , Louisville, etc.) signed 2020 classes which were right in line with their historical averages. Some schools (like Clemson, Kentucky and Georgia Tech) were significantly above average. However, there were a few schools which we way, way below average (such as USC and Virginia Tech). Virginia Tech's 2020 class was ranked 42.9 spots worse than its all-time norm, and USC was even further below average, at 49.9 spots below.
