Welcome to National Peanut Butter Fudge Day!

Peanut butter lovers and fudge lovers come together on November 20th to celebrate National Peanut Butter Fudge Day.

On June 16th, people across the United States celebrated National Fudge Day. Just by adding creamy or crunchy peanut butter, the celebration continues. They will have the yummy taste of peanut butter as the fudge flavor and star of the show.

Fudge originated in the United States, possibly by a happy accident. In 1886, a letter written by Emelyn Bettersby Hartridge was discovered. Ms. Hartridge attended Vassar College as a student in Poughkeepsie, New York, and the letter referred to a fudge her cousin had made. Her cousin, in Baltimore Maryland, was selling the fudge for 40 cents per pound. Ms. Hartridge obtained the recipe, and in 1888, she made 30 pounds of fudge for the Vassar College Senior Auction.

Syracuse football-Louisville prediction, make your pick (poll) (247sports.com; Bailey)

Syracuse football travels to Louisville for its ninth game of the season on Friday night. The Orange (1-7, 1-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) will kick off against the Cardinals (2-6, 1-6) at 7 p.m., drawing a primetime audience on ESPN. SU is listed as an 18-point underdog.

Before its second bye week, the Orange turned in its most competitive game in more than a month -- a 16-13 loss to Boston College in the Carrier Dome. Head coach Dino Babers said after that game that true freshman JaCobian Morgan "deserves" to make his second consecutive start against the Cardinals. Morgan completed 19-of-30 passes for 188 yards, one touchdown and one interception in his first career start versus the Eagles.

On Monday, Babers said SU's week off gave Morgan time to learn another chunk of his offense, which should open up the playbook on Friday.

"The biggest thing is we're just trying to increase the volume on his plate," Babers said. "He was in a situation where we're not able to do everything that we're capable of doing and then some of the things that we'd like to do have to be based off of his experiences. You can talk about it, but until you be about it, it really doesn't matter.

"... There's no doubt there are limitations, but I thought the stuff we've been giving him, he's been doing OK (with)."

Babers said on his radio show Wednesday night that Syracuse has completed two clean rounds of Covid-19 testing this week, leaving only one more test before players are cleared to take the field again.

Flashback Friday: Diamond Ferri Torches Boston College (SI; McAllister)

Syracuse needed a win to become bowl eligible. Boston College was ranked 17th in the country, and a win would give them the Big East title. With that came a BCS bowl bid. The Eagles were big favorites heading into the game, with superstar quarterback Matt Ryan leading the way. Syracuse was fresh off of an embarrassing loss to Temple and few believed they could upset a really good Boston College team on the road.

Star running back Walter Reyes was out for Syracuse due to injury. His replacement, Damien Rhodes, ran for a 69 yard touchdown on the game's first play from scrimmage. He would leave later in the first quarter with an injury of his own.

Down two running backs, the Orange turned to starting safety Diamond Ferri to fill the void. Ferri spent his first two years at Syracuse playing running back and was an accomplished back in high school. All Ferri did was torch Boston College on both sides of the ball scoring three total touchdowns.

Worst Teams as of 11/19/20

CBS Sports' has a weekly feature called "The Bottom 25" which is part humor, part fact. I've included their list for this week, along with comments for the two ACC teams plus one special that I'm sure you readers will appreciate - to read about the other 22 teams, click the link:

CBS SPORTS' BOTTOM 25 (Week 11)

25. Middle TennesseeUSA2-6
24. IllinoisB1G1-3
23. Eastern MichiganMAC0-2
22. Southern MissUSA2-6
21. Florida StateACC2-6
Would anything be more 2020 than Florida State finishing 3-7, but with two of the wins coming against top-five teams (at the time) in North Carolina and Clemson? I guess we'll find out this weekend! Maybe! (25)
20. Texas StateSBC1-9
19. SyracuseACC1-7
Syracuse had the weekend off and hopes to return to action this week against a Louisville team that just had one of its best players opt-out for the rest of the season. Javian Hawkins will likely not be the last NFL prospect to do so in the coming weeks. (22)
18. East CarolinaAAC1-6
17. Oregon StatePAC0-2
16. TempleAAC1-5
15. New MexicoMWC0-3
14. South FloridaAAC1-7
13. Penn StateB1G0-4
Penn State is 0-4, so it's ranked here, but the fact it's 0-4 and not ranked lower than this says a lot about how it has played. Trust me, the metrics used to formulate these rankings say that this team isn't nearly as bad as the record suggests. Now, that's not to say they suggest the team is good. They just suggest wins are likely to come. Possibly even this week against Iowa. (17)

Rx: Better ACC Scheduling (RX; HM)

Rx: Better ACC Scheduling

When people think about ACC divisions, their minds often go to the ACC Championship Game and whether the two halves of the conference are balanced or not - but that's only part of the equation. An even bigger consequence of divisions - one which impacts the conference every single week of football season - is how it affects scheduling.

Recently, David Teel wrote a nice article addressing the scheduling issues which are a direct result of the ACC's decision to set up the divisions the way they are, which also requires one cross-division game per team. That locks in seven games per year and only allows for one rotating game within the ACC (and, of course, four non-conference games). That means that certain attractive cross-division games rarely get played.

David Teel pointed this out earlier in the season in his article "Hokies' trip to Louisville latest reminder of ACC football's flawed schedule rotation":

Often lamented but never repaired, ACC football’s flawed schedule rotation has been exposed this month like rarely before.
Two weeks ago, Duke and North Carolina State, separated by a... 25-mile drive, met for the first time in... seven years. Saturday, Virginia Tech plays at Louisville, the programs’ first encounter since the Cardinals joined the conference in 2014.
At 380-plus miles, Blacksburg is a haul from Louisville. But among full-time members, it is the closest ACC campus to the Derby City.

No. 21 Liberty looks to take down another ACC foe during visit to NC State - Salisbury Post (AP; Beard)

Liberty’s wins against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents have been a highlight of its unbeaten start. Now the 21st-ranked Flames have a chance to claim another with Saturday night’s visit to North Carolina State.

The Flames (8-0) have the best start in program history, which includes wins at Syracuse and Virginia Tech. Before this year, the football independent had lost all eight meetings with ACC opponents.

“The one thing I do not concern myself with or really worry will be our confidence going into Saturday,” Liberty coach Hugh Freeze said. “I think we breed confidence into our players and I think their experiences thus far give them reasons to believe that we will go in and compete.”

The Flames have done more than that so far. Auburn transfer Malik Willis has thrived at quarterback, while Liberty ranks 12th in the Bowl Subdivision ranks by averaging 254.5 yards rushing per game – including big performances in the Syracuse and Virginia Tech wins.

FSU Presents Cautionary Tale for College Football, Even Clemson (SI; Senkiw)

It can't possibly happen to your program.

There's simply no chance. Things are too good. Wins are piling up. Big-time high school recruits are turning into NFL draft picks. Players are developed at a high level by elite coaching. Competing for conference and national championships are the norm, the expectation.

Anything less is a down year. But there aren't down years. Not for your program.

Had somebody given Florida State fans that speech 20 years ago, they would've bought it hook, line and sinker. After all, the Seminoles won nine consecutive ACC titles and 12 total from 1992-2005. They produced two national championships and two Heisman Trophy winners during that era. They finished in the top-5 in the polls for 14 consecutive seasons. That might never be duplicated.

Then, after a brief hiatus from national relevancy and the retirement of coaching legend Bobby Bowden, Florida State returned to win a national title in 2013. Jameis Winston won the Heisman and became a No. 1 overall NFL draft selection. Head coach Jimbo Fisher was considered "elite." He won 78 games in his first seven seasons in Tallahassee.

New film features ‘Straight Outta Compton’ actor playing Syracuse football legend (PS; $, Herbert)

A new film features “Straight Outta Compton” actor Aldis Hodge playing Syracuse football legend Jim Brown.

Hodge, who played MC Ren in the N.W.A. biopic, portrays Brown in Regina King’s directorial debut “One Night in Miami...” Based on the award-winning play of the same name, the movie centers on a fictional account of four Black icons — Brown, Cassius Clay (Eli Goree), Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir) and singer Sam Cooke (”Hamilton” star Leslie Odom Jr.) — meeting at a Miami hotel after the boxer, who would soon become Muhammad Ali, defeated heavyweight champion Sonny Liston on Feb. 25, 1964.

“One Night” looks at the struggles these men faced and the vital role they each played in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 1960s. More than 40 years later, their conversations on racial injustice, religion, and personal responsibility still resonate.
