CBA Freshman phenom earns offer from Syracuse Football (cnycentral.com; Tamurian)
He wouldn't be on campus until the 2024 season.
Three and a half years from now.
But that's how good he is- that Syracuse Football felt compelled to offer a scholarship to Syair Torrence during his freshman year of high school.
Torrence is tearing it up for the Brothers during this abbreviated 2021 season, just like he did in the fall of 2019 as an 8th grader.
So you probably already guessed this, but Syair is a freakishly good athlete and it's easy to see why the Orange offered so early, because the potential is enormous on top of the results already plainly in sight.
Torrence has 35 catches already this season for 347 yards. He told our friend Mike McAllister from Syracuse Sports Illustrated that he's hearing from the Orange, Colorado State and Baylor.

Reports: Transfers won't have to sit out season (ESPN; AP)
Starting next season, major college football and basketball players will be permitted to transfer one time before graduating without being required to sit out a year of competition.
The NCAA Division I Council voted Wednesday to change the long-standing rule that has often deterred players in high-profile sports from switching schools, two people with knowledge of the council's decision told The Associated Press.
The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the two-day meeting was still in session and the council's decisions would not become official until it ends Thursday. The Athletic first reported the council's vote.

Miami FB Coaches, 1979-2020
The Hurricanes recently mourned the loss of one of their greatest all-time football coaches, the man who made Miami into "The U" - Howard Schnellenberger. While he may have been the one who got things rolling in South Beach, he's hardly the only great coach to wear green and orange.
What's the history of Miami Hurricanes football coaches, what happened to get the "U" off course, and how does Manny Diaz compare to the best?

After years (nay, decades) of mediocrity, Miami was blessed to have not one, not two, not three, not even four, but five head coaches in a row who posted win percentages in excess of 70%. Three of those won over 80% of their games. In the process, the "U" won five national titles - an incredibly impressive run!

New One-time Immediate Transfer Rule (RX; HM)
New One-time Immediate Transfer Rule
Everyone is reporting that the NCAA will give final approval to a rule change allowing all athletes to transfer once without sitting out (for example, see CBS Sports "NCAA Council passes one-time transfer legislation allowing athletes immediate eligibility"). What will it all mean? Let's break it down...Some call it "free agency", but free agents can switch teams as often as they want - this is more of a one-time "get out of jail free" card. Your recruiter lied to you and now you're stuck on the bench? Transfer! The NCAA Division I Council has voted unanimously in favor of a measure that will allow athletes in all sports to transfer once without sitting a season...
Athletes in most Division I sports have not been subject to the rule requiring transfers to sit a season. The rule has applied only to athletes in football, baseball, men's ice hockey and men's or women's basketball...
This addresses the "fairness" issue. The NCAA was looking very hypocritical (I know, right?) by allowing athletes to transfer in non-revenue sports but not revenue-generating ones.
This next point is key in my opinion:
...Though transferring is already prevalent in college football, it is expected to become even more common among athletes seeking more playing time without the hassle of missing a full season.

From SI: Boston College Signs 10-Year Contract With New BalanceSounds like a good fit for BC, regardless of the money (although I have to think they are getting some of that, too).New Balance is returning to college athletics after signing a 10-year contract with Boston College, according to the Sports Business Journal's Michael Smith. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Boston College athletes will now also have access to New Balance’s training facilities in Nashua and Salem, N.H. A new track at New Balance's sports complex is expected to open in 2022, per Smith. Boston College athletes will also be eligible for internships with the sneaker company following Monday's agreement...
30 of Boston College's 31 varsity teams will now receive uniforms, apparel, and footwear from New Balance.
ESPN Computer Predicts College Football's Most-Likely Undefeated Team (thespun.com; Hladik)
ESPN updated its Football Power Index (FPI) this week, providing an early computer-generated look at how the 2021 college football season might play out.
One of the metrics of the FPI measures a team’s likelihood of winning out. In the preseason, this means it gives the probability of each team going 12-0 in the regular season.
According to the latest update, there are four teams with at least a 10% chance of going 12-0. The team with the best chance, according to the computers, is Clemson at 21%.
Here’s the full top four:
- Clemson – 21%
- Alabama – 16%
- Oklahoma – 15%
- Ohio State – 11%
In that time span, Dabo Swinney’s team has lost only three regular season contests and seven games in total. Even without Trevor Lawrence, the Tigers will be overwhelming ACC favorites once again in 2021, thanks in large part to five-star quarterback D.J Uiagalelei.
However, Clemson will be challenged out of the gate in a way it hasn’t in recent seasons. The Tigers open up 2021 against Georgia, a projected top-10 team.

An MQ-9 Reaper drone operated by the NY Air National Guard's 174th Attack Wing is shown after crashing June 25, 2020 at Syracuse Hancock International Airport.U.S. Air Force photo
A Reaper drone crashed at Syracuse’s airport. Why wasn’t the public told? (PS; $; Weiner)
An Air National Guard MQ-9 Reaper drone crashed shortly after takeoff last summer at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, but military officials decided not to inform the public until now.
A U.S. Air Force accident investigation board disclosed details of the crash in a report issued last week, almost a year after the unmanned aircraft lost engine power while taking off for a training mission.
No people were injured in the June 25 crash, which investigators blamed on errors by operators who piloted the drone remotely from the New York Air National Guard’s 174th Attack Wing at Hancock Field.
The aircraft sustained more than $6 million in damage in the crash.
