McDonald: "Me and Tim are awesome. This has nothing to do with Tim Lester. I think the world of him."
McDonald said that if he had to be in this situation, there's no one he'd rather be in it with besides Tim Lester.
McDonald: "Nothing is ever guaranteed, but I thought I was going to be given the opportunity to develop an offense."
McDonald thought if you look at the "totality" of the offense, it's better this year than last.
McDonald on how long it takes to develop an offense: "Probably more than five games into the season."
McDonald said players were "a little bit shocked" but McDonald preached keeping head up. He has to do what he tells them in negative times.
McDonald said Shafer told him it was solely his decision. McDonald thinks Shafer has handled pressure well, just didn't agree w/ demotion.
McDonald didn't hide from red-zone and third-down woes. Cited execution at least as part of the problem.
McDonald on WRs: "I love those guys. They've helped me understand, 'Hey, you've got to be what you tell us to be.'
McDonald said Ben Lewis in paticular came to him in support: "We both had tragic weekends," McDonald said. Neither slept much.
McDonald on relationship with Shafer moving forward: "It is what it is."
McDonald: "I'm still shellshocked a little bit so I'm just trying to figure things out. The main thing I have to do is be a great teammate."
McDonald said a bunch of coaches reached out to him, reaffirming his coaching ability. Named one: UMD OC Mike Locksley.
McDonald said he's "excited" to continue working with WRs for the rest of the season. Emphasized how much he cares about them.
McDonald on chance of leaving mid-season: "I would try not to." Said it would take "something crazy for me to leave."
McDonald said it's WRs keeping him here. "None of them have ever turned their back on me."
McDonald on Sunday morning: "You wake up and you hope everything was a dream and then you realize it’s not a dream."
McDonald: “I think it’s important for people to know that I’m not a quitter. People know that I’m dedicated to Syracuse University."
