Predictions for Syracuse-Duke Game (PS; Staff)
BRENT AXE
Duke 28, Syracuse 10
I think we can assume the offense will have difficulty keeping pace with Duke on the scoreboard. So that leaves it to the defense to create turnovers and maybe even score a touchdown or two. Well, Duke has only turned the ball over five times this season (fewest in the nation). Anyone have any other ideas?

Cole Stoudt Had a Big Night Against the Demon Deacons
Clemson Holds Off Wake Forest, Awaits Deshaun Watson's Return (PS; Stevens)
Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson is supposed to come back from a hand injury next week. Yet just in case, the Tigers listed the freshman as doubtful for Thursday night's game at Wake Forest.
It was also doubtful Clemson, stacked with oodles of talent and annual recruiting ranking affirmation, would trail the Demon Deacons by a touchdown. But there the Tigers were, plodding along early before pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 34-20 victory.
It wasn't much unlike other triumphs over the last month for Clemson (7-2, 6-1 ACC), owner of a six-game winning streak that was both eminently predictable and often not easy on the eyes.
Watson wasn't needed Thursday. He surely will be next week at Georgia Tech and in Clemson's Thanksgiving weekend throwdown with a South Carolina team that's underachieved this year but owned the Tigers in recent years. Reversing the latter trend is of paramount importance to Clemson, and a healthy and effective Watson is probably required to claim a win that in-state rivalry.

ACC Intrigue in Lower Half of College Football Playoff Rankings (dailypress.com; Teel)

Naturally, the focus is on which teams are best positioned to reach the inaugural CFP semifinals. This week's top four are Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn and Oregon, the Ducks replacing Ole Miss at No. 4 after the Rebels' loss to Auburn.
But during a media call Tuesday evening, committee chairman Jeff Long, the athletic director at Arkansas, said he and his colleagues spent extended time parsing Nos. 21-25. Those deliberations could well determine the ACC's Orange Bowl representative.
Here's how: If Florida State wins the league title and qualifies for the playoff — this season's semifinals are the Rose and Sugar bowls — the next ACC team on the committee's food chain heads to the Orange to face the highest-ranked available opponent from among the Big Ten, Southeastern Conference and Notre Dame.
