Syracuse vs Boston College: Two Schools Headed in Opposite Directions (bcinterruption.com; Favat)

A funny thing happened following Boston College's 20-17 loss to #1 Florida State ...

With the loss, Boston College head coach Steve Addazio fell to 13-11 overall, and 7-8 in conference play. That mark is identical to the record Addazio compiled in two seasons at Temple -- 13-11 overall, 5-3 MAC, 2-5 Big East for a 7-8 conference record -- before Brad Bates hired him away to resurrect a moribund Boston College football program.

Many Boston College fans lambasted the hire at the time and, frankly, it wasn't hard to see why. Addazio won just four games in 2012 with the Owls, rocking a roster full of MAC talent against a Big East conference schedule -- Temple's first year back in the reconstituted Big East. After winning 9 games the year after taking over for Al Golden in Philadelphia, Addazio managed just four wins in year two. Nevermind the switch in conference affiliation and the significant step up in competition. The perception was clearly that Temple was going in the wrong direction.

Why would a power conference program want anything to do with a head coach of just two years at, of all places, Temple?

Verbal Commit Dungey Becomes Only QB in SU Class of 2015 (DO; D'Abbraccio)

Lakeridge (Oregon) High School quarterback Eric Dungey verbally committed to Syracuse’s recruiting Class of 2015, he announced via his Twitter account Sunday night.

Dungey, a three-star commit according to At their request, this network is being blocked from this site., is the only quarterback in the Orange’s incoming class.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound signal-caller also had offers from Yale, Wyoming, UNLV, Northern Colorado, and more, according to his Scout profile, which also said Dungey made his official visit on Tuesday. Scout ranks Dungey as the 95th best out of all 2015 quarterbacks.

On Nov. 15, a post by Lakeridge High School’s Twitter account said Dungey was offered a scholarship by Tim Lester, Syracuse’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, during warm-ups before a second-round playoff game.

"Eric Dungey: An amazing athlete, if Dungey weren't a quarterback he could easily be a high-end recruit at another position. At one point during the practice, Dungey took a rep at wide receiver and made a shoestring catch after a 30-yard sprint downfield.
When the Lakeridge senior puts all of his mechanics together in one throw, he throws the best ball on the group, but it isn't yet consistent.
Dungey has, by far, the highest upside of any of the seniors and has double-digit offers to his name. He is currently looking at playing in the Ivy League or Mountain West Conference.
Barton's thoughts - "The crazy thing about Eric Dungey - he can play this game as long as he wants to. If he really commits to this and really hones his craft, he can be a guy that goes and plays for 10-15 years. That's how good he is."

Football Honored for Academic Success (Cuse.com)

For the 21st time since the AFCA Academic Achievement Award began in 1981, the Syracuse football program was honored for academic success.

The Orange earned honorable mention honors this season, the 20th time it received such honor, which ranks seventh among all FBS programs.

The award recognizes the FBS team with the highest graduation rate annually, with honorable mention honors handed out to programs who graduate more than 75-percent of its student-athletes...
