Syracuse Football Assistant Will Talk to West Lindor Later This Week About Decommitment (PS; Bailey)
Syracuse running backs coach DeAndre Smith will sit down with recent decommit West Lindor later this week and discuss the circumstances surrounding his departure from their class, Affton (St. Louis, Mo.) High School head coach Dan Oliver said in a phone interview on Tuesday.
Oliver said he spoke with Smith earlier on Tuesday for the first time since SU promoted Tim Lester to offensive coordinator in early October and the second time since Lindor verbally committed in early July.
"He was very gracious about everything, and apologized for any confusion there could've been either way," Oliver said of the brief conversation. "I think he just wants to talk to West and let him know how things went down.
"… I didn't place blame. There was none of that going on."
Oliver said that he doesn't know why Smith, Lindor's primary recruiter, and the rest of the Orange coaching staff have ignored the wide receiver/tight end's phone calls and text messages since September, but he isn't holding a grudge. Oliver said he fully understands the Orange's decision to go in another direction. He just wishes that he was informed when the SU staff decided to drop Lindor.
