Mitch Kimble to Transfer to Eastern Illinois (jg-tc.com; Nielsen)
Former Jerseyville quarterback Mitch Kimble is transferring from Syracue to Eastern Illinois.
Kimble was the fourth quarterback option for Syracuse this season, He mostly shared time with AJ Long and Austin Wilson after starter Terrel Hunt suffered a broken leg in early October.
“He really enjoyed the time out in Syracuse,” Jerseyville coach Dave Jacobs said. “It was just kind of a situation where the quarterback broke his leg and there were three freshmen. It was just kind of a struggling time and battling with the other kids. He wants to play. It was a tough couple of years for him personally but he's an excellent talent and great kid . He has the opportunity where he can his family see him play and hopefully right away.
“He played. He started the second half against Duke and got his first rush touchdown. He got a great experience and some really good coaches. He is seasoned, that's for sure.”
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Kimble appeared in three games this season including a Nov. 8 game against Duke when he completed six of 13 passes for 37 yards and ran for 42 yards in a 27-10 loss.
In 2012, Kimble quarterbacked a Jerseyville team that defeated Mattoon in a regular season finale and then a first-round game of the IHSA Class 5A playoffs.
A dual threat, he was named the Alton Telegraph Player of the year for Large Schools and All-State by the Illinois Football Coaches Association and Champaign News Gazette.

Clemson Reaches 10 Win Plateau for Fourth Consecutive Year (PS; Stevens)
It's time to close the book on the ACC football season. After wrapping up the three programs that didn't advance to the postseason, the next week offers the chance to look back on most of the league's bowl teams. Up now is Clemson.
Record:10-3, 6-2 ACC
Preseason prediction:"Thedefense should be a strength, and getting Louisville at home should help. There was a talent divide in the ACC last year between the top two and other 12, and while Louisville's arrival changed that a little, a gap still exists." (9-3, 7-1 ACC)
Clemson in 100ish words:Here's what Dabo Swinney's managed to do: Win 10 games in a year when a modest step back was universally expected. The Tigers weren't as good as they were in 2013, but their defense was exceptional and they made it through the year without losing a game they shouldn't have. Falling at Georgia and Florida State were understandable, as was (in retrospect) the loss at Georgia Tech.
Clemson found its quarterback for the future in Deshaun Watson. The key now is keeping him healthy. But the Tigers also altered their identity to win a few more grind-it-out games than they ever needed to in the Tajh Boyd/Sammy Watkins era. The Tigers were different this year, but still impressive.
