Assessing the 2010-11 SU Recruiting Classes: About Half the Players Signed Made an Impact (PS; Mink)
National signing day is less than two weeks away, and coaches across the country will inevitably speak to the optimism shared amongst the staff as they formally introduce the incoming freshman class.
In Scott Shafer's eyes, every player in the class is a necessary widget in this rebuilding project.
Yet seven of the 24 recruits signed just last year either never made it to Syracuse or have already left the program.
There is a good chance Shafer will attempt to contain any extremes about the class by downplaying star ratings or explain that a recruiting class cannot properly be judged for a few years.
If that is the metric, let it be.
Today we look at the 2011 recruiting class, the most recent set of players to leave the program. We'll also include the 2010 recruiting class in this assessment because there were a few fifth-year players who contributed to a 31-32 record from 2010-14.

2014-15 Orange Eagle Trophy Update: SU and BC Remain Neck and Neck (bcinterruption.com; Swordsman)
Following Boston College's dominating win over the hapless SU football team, BC went into the holidays with a narrow six point Orange Eagle Trophy lead. The 12 points earned by The Eagle football team in Chestnut Hill were crucial to their Orange Eagle chances, as 18 of the first 24 points of 2015 were to be contested on the hardwood, where SU's strong men's and women's basketball teams were favored.
The past three days saw SU and BC match up for the first two of four basketball contests in January and February, and sure enough, Syracuse came away with nine points and a slim three-point OET lead off the back of a dominating performance by the SU women, and adominating performance near historic choke by the SU men. Let's recap the action from Conte and The Carrier Dome.
January 18 - Women's Basketball (3 Points) - Syracuse 64, Boston College 46
With most of New England glued to happenings in Foxborough, Syracuse and Boston College faced off for the first time in 2015 with BC hosting The Orange at Conte Forum. Syracuse entered the game without star player Brittany Sykes, and subsequently struggled to get into their offensive flow. Solid defending by BC held SU to their weakest first-half output of the season, and the teams went into the half with SU holding a slim 24-22 lead.

Top Nature Coast Football Prospect Draws Attention of Power Conference Schools (Including Syracuse) (tampabay.com; LaRaviere)
For more than a year and a half, Christian Pellage has been courted, his name known more readily by college recruiters than by classmates in the halls of his own school.
The usually anonymous offensive tackle speaks softly despite his 6-feet-7, 291-pound frame. At first, he was surprised by the attention he received from major university programs, but as he has gotten older, he's become more accustomed to the process.
"From the beginning, it was really hard," Pellage said. "Going through this process has helped me break out of my shell."
That ability to step out of the shadows helped him out as a senior, when he became a leader for Nature Coast under first-year coach Justin Worden.
"After I got hired, he found me on Twitter and got information from me on there before I even came to the school," Worden said. "He was one of those leaders that rallied everybody. He was never shy of asking questions, always making sure that other people were ready to go."
