SU Revitalizes Recruiting Effort in NJ and NY with 2015 Class (DO; Blum and D'Abbraccio)

A pipeline from the New York and New Jersey area to Syracuse played a sizable hand in three bowl victories in four years.

But since Scott Shafer’s takeover of the program, Syracuse hasn’t followed the trend. Just one New York City product has been added to the Orange in the last two seasons — nose tackle Wayne Williams, who verbally committed during Doug Marrone’s tenure.

Yet the Orange’s incoming recruiting class is focusing on changing the trend. Syracuse has refocused its recruiting efforts in the 2015 class on more local talent, and the surrounding New York City area is at the root of it. Five of the 26 commits expected to sign with SU on Wednesday are from New Jersey, and two more are from Long Island.

The consensus is that Syracuse — with wide receivers coach Bobby Acosta making SU’s pitch to recruits in that area — is trying to recapture an area that it once owned more prominently in the recruiting realm.

Kevin McGuire Lobbies for a Retractable Roof for the Carrier Dome (nbcsports.com; McGuire)

This has been discussed as a possibility for Syracuse for a while now, and it appears to still be on the table for the Orange. Drawings for a retractable roof renovation of the Carrier Dome are expected to be made available by the end of the current semester.

As reported by Syracuse.com, there continue to be three main plans to evaluate as far as renovating the Carrier Dome roof goes. In addition to the possibly lofty goal of installing a retractable roof that could add to the football game day experience in a big way, an off-site sports arena and a full replacement of the current roof are also options.

T-Minus One to National LOI Day. A National Signing Day Primer (TNIAAM; Norowski)

We're only 40 or so hours away from the 2015 National Letter of Intent Signing Day, which, for people like me, is the best day of the offseason in sports (only rivaled by soccer's deadline day, which coincidentally is today). Signing day is so very important to every school, as it solidifies each verbal commitment the staff has worked so hard to close over the last few years. It is also the most dated tradition in modern sports, as teams still use a fax machine to receive the NLI's, but this is another reason why it's such an awesome day.

I wish Syracuse had a live fax machine feed like some of the bigger schools do, but for us we'll just have to follow along on Twitter. Your best sources to do this (despite me doing my best to retweet as we go) will be @EricWhite08 and @CuseFootball. Each of these accounts last year provided a minute by minute update of whose letters were in and signed.

More on the Newest Orangeman: Kielan Whitner is One to Watch in 2015 (Scout; Higdon)

The state of Georgia is loaded with talent across the board for the class of 2015. One player to keep an eye on from the Peach state is from Lawrenceville (GA) Mountain View high school and his name is Kielan Whitner.

Kielan Whitner is a defensive back/wide receiver prospect for Mountain View high school. Whitner was all region as a sophomore and first team all region as a junior. Whitner is a great student with a 3.8 GPA and checks in at 6-feet, 180-pounds with a 33-inch vertical and 4.5 40-yard dash.

Whitner plays both sides of the ball for Mountain View and shows great upside at both the defensive back and wide receiver position.

Update and correction: Syracuse University officials said this morning that while all roof options are being considered, the focus of dome renovation plans has been on a fixed roof, not on a retractable roof. A syracuse.com reporter misunderstood information provided Monday by Chancellor Kent Syverud.

http://www.syracuse.com/news/index...._for_retractable_roof_by_end_of_semester.html

Correction: Syracuse University not considering retractable roof for dome (PS)

Well that's a pretty big error, no? My goodness.

you would think if a reporter thought he heard something like that he would followup the question.. thats a big jump in design and scope.
