ACC coaches favor expanded eligibility (ESPN)

While Big Ten and other NCAA officials discuss rules limiting eligibility for first-year players in football and men’s basketball, ACC football coaches are nearly unanimous in wanting to move in the opposite direction.

In a poll of ACC football coaches, 12 of the 13 who responded said they favored or would consider expanding eligibility to allow players to play five years — eliminating the redshirt completely — and every coach expressed significant reservations about potentially redshirting all freshmen. ..

In other ACC news ...

Bryan Gross-Armiento, a Rutgers transfer who has yet to play a down college ball, was expected to be the starting CB for Wake. He is now out for the Spring with a knee injury. The knee will require surgery and it is still unkown if he will healthy for the start of Fall camp. The other possible starter, Brad Watson, will also miss Spring practice due to a fractured wrist.

And how is this for the NCAA ... VT will have 5 players granted medical hardships and get another year of eligibility.

@Stephen_Bailey1: Former Syracuse OT Sean Hickey tells @BrentAxeMedia that SU's Pro Day was pushed back from 3/27 to 4/7 due to scheduling issues.

@Stephen_Bailey1: Hickey said the Pro Day participants are happy with the delay. "It gives us more time to work and do our best."

@Stephen_Bailey1: Hickey said he "feels great" with his training since an ankle tweak limited him at the NFL Combine. Has a couple private workouts set up.

@Stephen_Bailey1: Hickey: "Some teams believe I can play tackle. Some teams believe I'm more of a guard due to some arm-length concerns." Open to either.

@Stephen_Bailey1: Hickey on Ivan Foy transitioning to LT: "I have the utmost faith in him that he'll be able to do it." Said the adjustment is tough.

@Stephen_Bailey1: Hickey: "Rob (Trudo) should not have been playing last year in terms of his injury, but he did." Lester said no risk of further injury.
