Mike Tirico on New SU AD: Make Football Program the Best in the Northeast (PS; Mink)
Mike Tirico, a renowned ESPN broadcaster and Syracuse alum, mapped out his criteria for how the university should decide on its new athletic director.
Tirico said one of the most important tenets of the new athletic director must be "becoming the best football program in the Northeast."
"That's what Syracuse has to be to have a strong foothold in the ACC," Tirico said. He also said it was imperative to have a "strict" and "strong" leader who understands the chain of command and how to ensure total compliance with NCAA rules.
Tirico was speaking earlier Wednesday afternoon on the local ESPN radio show "Upon Further Review" hours after Syracuse announced Daryl Gross resigned as athletic director and coach Jim Boeheim intended to retire in three years.
Tirico has not been shy to share his opinions on the NCAA-Syracuse case. Earlier this month he blasted the NCAA, calling it a "leaderless organization."
