Coach Says Marquise Blair Expected to Qualify After Summer Classes (PS; Bailey)
Marquise Blair is on pace to qualify academically if he can maintain his final semester grade-point average while taking online classes this summer, Wooster (Ohio) High School head coach Doug Haas said in a phone interview on Wednesday.
Blair is arguably Syracuse's most important signee in its 2015 class as the only four-star talent, according to At their request, this network is being blocked from this site., and a player who would fill a position of need at safety.
The Orange finished spring ball with only three scholarship safeties, none of whom have played a significant snap at the position.
"There's no slam dunks in the recruiting business, but I feel really, really good about where we're at from putting all the numbers together yesterday," Haas said.
Blair will take two or three classes through an online academy available to all Wooster students, Haas said. He added that the NCAA has already approved of the academy and if all goes as planned, Blair will finish his coursework in time to arrive at SU with the rest of his class on July 6.

2015 Opponent Preview: LSU Tigers (TNIAAM; Cassillo)
It's not football season yet, I know. But it's 99 days away, for those keeping track (no one but me). And that means we're prepping for this all-important 2015 season at Syracuse. We start with our opponents, which "may" not be as tough as they've been in recent seasons. Each week, we'll preview another team on the 2015 slate, from week one through week 13. Today, we continue with the:
LSU Tigers
School: Louisiana State University
Mascot: Tigers
#BRAND Slogan: "Love Purple. Live Gold"
Alternate #BRAND Slogan Suggestions: "Come to LSU. We Have a Goddamn Live Tiger on Campus." "Geaux to College."
Recommended Blog: And the Valley Shook
Conference: Southeastern Conference, aka the ESSSS-EEEEEE-SEEEEE
Coach: Les Miles, 11th year. You know exactly who Les Miles is. He's won a national championship. He has a 103-29 record with the Tigers. He stars in commercials. He eats grass. Miles is one of the sport's most entertaining head coaches, and one of the most successful ones too. No he's not leaving this job for Michigan or Nebraska or some other non-SEC job any time soon. That's stupid.
2014 Record: (8-5) (4-4)
Recapping Last Season:
it was a surprisingly rough fall down in Baton Rouge (at least by their standards) last year. The Tigers started out strong with a 3-0 record, but went just 5-4 the rest of the way and 4-4 in the impossibly difficult SEC West. They did beat Ole Miss when they were ranked no. 3 in the nation, which is something, but were also shut out by Arkansas. Again: the SEC West is far too tough for us to even consider, and I shudder to think of what would happen to SU if handed a schedule with eight or nine top-50 squads on it.

With Just One Show Booked, NYS Fair Turns to 'Throwback' Concerts to Fill the Void (PS; Baker)
This year will be the last for concerts at the New York State Fair's grandstand. And, even with a few shows in the works, it is shaping up to be the quietest in the venue's 38-year history.
With three months until opening day at the 2015 Fair, the grandstand has booked just one concert: country singer Eric Church. By this time last year, the Fair had announced seven concerts and would add one more in June.
Today, Fair officials said Church will not be the only show on the big stage. Acting Fair Director Troy Waffner said one additional concert is confirmed and the Fair has offers on two others.
Details are forthcoming, but Waffner described the trio of shows as "throwback" concerts. Tickets will be $15 or $20. He and Fair spokesman Dave Bullard said they hope to solidify and announce details in the coming weeks.
"It'll be three nights," Bullard said. "The shows will cover different genres and we're doing throwback pricing."
