Virginia LB Chase Pine Has Orange in Top 6; Plans Visit in July (PS; Bailey)
Syracuse wasn't ready to accept a verbal commitment from outside linebacker Solomon Manning earlier this week. That begged the question as to who may be ahead of the Colonia (N.J.) High School junior on SU's recruiting board.
One likely choice: Lafayette (Williamsburg, Va.) High School prospect Chase Pine.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Pine is rated three stars and the No. 59 outside linebacker by 247Sports.com after a junior year in which he finished with 46 tackles, including 10 for loss, six sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery for touchdown, according to recruit757.com. He holds 15 scholarship offers heading into a Notre Dame camp on Thursday, and has shifted around his group of favorites since last check in late May.
Pine named Georgia, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Syracuse as his top six schools during a phone interview Wednesday, with the Bulldogs and Mountaineers holding a slight edge.
One of the factors he values most when assessing a school is his relationship with the coaches. At SU, that means linebackers coach Clark Lea.
Pine spoke with Lea for almost an hour and a half the night of April 2, when the Orange offered. They continued a running dialogue through Twitter direct message and Lea visited Lafayette in early May.

2016 TE/WR Michael Irvin Jr. 'Really Hoping' to Visit SU (PS; Bailey)
With highly touted running back Robert Washington and quarterback Rex Culpepper already committed to Syracuse's Class of 2016, it's only fitting that the Orange chases a star pass catcher; and it's safe to say, one who wants to visit Syracuse this summer is familiar with the term "triplets."
Michael Irvin Jr., son of former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin, has legitimate interest in the Orange.
"I talk to Coach (Joe) Adam, the offensive line coach, on Twitter and (have spoken with) the (wide) receivers coach (Bobby Acosta) over the phone a couple times," Irvin said during a series of text messages. "We're trying to get to know each other.
"Hopefully I will go to the school very soon to see the place and meet more of the staff."
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Irvin is rated three stars and the No. 27 tight end in the cycle by 247Sports.com after playing his first three seasons at Prestonwood (Plano, Texas) Christian Academy and catching 223 total passes for 2,741 yards and 34 touchdowns. His offer sheet includes Syracuse, Miami — his father's alma mater — Michigan, Georgia and SMU, among others, according to 247Sports.com.

$10 Bill: Alexander Hamilton Out, Harriet Tubman In? (PS; AP)
Alexander Hamilton, who has been featured on the $10 bill since 1929, is making way for a woman.
Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew is to officially announce Thursday that a redesign of the $10 will feature the first woman on the nation's paper money in more than a century. The plan is to decide which woman sometime this summer.
The bill will have new security features to make it harder to counterfeit and will go into circulation in 2020, the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote.
Lew is asking the public for suggestions on who should be chosen for the bill, as well as what symbols of democracy it should feature. Ideas can be submitted by visiting thenew10.treasury.gov website.
Various groups have been campaigning to get a woman honored on the nation's paper currency, which has been an all-male domain for more than a century. The last woman featured on U.S. paper money was Martha Washington, who was on a dollar silver certificate from 1891 to 1896. The only other woman ever featured on U.S. paper money was Pocahontas, from 1865 to 1869. Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea are on dollar coins.
