Welcome to National Creamsicle Day!

National Creamsicle (Epsicle) Day History
National Creamsicle Day is not noted in any official legislation or designation as a holiday but is observed in the United States as an unofficial day of celebration. The frozen dessert has been in existence for many years. It was originally invented by Frank Epperson who discovered the possibility of a frozen treat on a stick in 1905 at age 11. Epperson left his drink in the freezer with a stirrer in it creating what he called the Epsicle. The Epsicle eventually was renamed as the Popsicle and Epperson eventually created the creamsicle and dreamsicle. 2

How the National Media Foresees for 2015 Syracuse Season (TNIAAM; Szuba)

...
Matt Fortuna, ESPN. Predictions: Best Case: 7-5, Worst Case: 3-9
In Fortuna's best case scenario he mentions that Hunt will have taken the steps that many people envisioned him taking last year and that Steve Ishmael, Alvin Corneliusand Brisly Estime will emerge as playmakers in the passing game, while Zaire Franklinleads a group of strong linebackers.

Bruce Feldman, Fox Sports. Prediction: 4-8, (1-7)
Feldman has Syracuse at a disappointing 4-8, a slight 'improvement' from a season ago. But that's not the worst of the predictions...

Stewart Mandel, Fox Sports. Prediction: 2-10, (0-8)
Yikes. Mandel predicts Syracuse to go a whopping 2-10 and says that Scott Shafer will be "toast." I'm not so sure Syracuse will be that bad.

Aside from record predictions, our John Cassillo highlighted other publications this week which placed Syracuse in the 128-team rankings. Read that here.

Get to Know Your Orange Man - #1 CB Julian Whigham (TNIAAM; Szuba)

Name: Julian Whigham
Position: Cornerback
Year: Senior
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 187
Hometown: West Palm Beach, FL
High School: Dwyer HS
2014 Stats: Whigham started every game he played in last season. He recorded 28 tackles on the season including an interception and fumble recovery.
2015 Projections: Following a disappointing junior year, Whigham will start at corner where he'll look for redemption. Whigham continually blew coverage time and again last season. With his height and athleticism, Whigham has all the makings of a good corner. Whigham has hopes of making the NFL.
How'd He Get Here?: Whigham chose Syracuse over Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, Indiana and Boston College.
What'd Recruiting Sites Say?: Rivals rated him a three star recruit. Scout rated him two.
Money Quote: From syracuse.com:
"I want to play NFL Football. I think I have that ability. I think I'll get the chance. I'm really going to give myself the best opportunity to get drafted when that time comes, but I'm focussing on improvement. I've got to be a great college player first and foremost."
Links Of Wonder: Whigham apologized after a 56-0 defeat against Georgia Tech in 2013.

Badgers Add Home and Home Series with Syracuse (madison.com; Galloway)

The Badgers added a home-and-home series with Syracuse to its non-conference schedule.

UW will host the Orange at Camp Randall Stadium on Sept. 12, 2020, and will travel to Syracuse on Sept. 11, 2021.

The Badgers also announced that they are flipping road trips in 2017 and 2019. UW will now play at BYU in 2017 and travel to South Florida in 2019.

The game against the Cougars is now set for Sept. 16, 2017, while the Badgers will open the 2019 season at South Florida on Aug. 31.

UW also announced the addition of three future home games — New Mexico (Sept. 8, 2018), Central Michigan (Sept. 7, 2019) and North Texas (Oct. 5, 2019).

Along with Syracuse, the Badgers also have home-and-home series scheduled with Washington State (2022-23), Virginia Tech (2024-25) and Hawaii (2022 and 2024).

When SU picks up its 3rd win early this season I have a feeling the Fox expert will have no idea. He must be drowning in data covering so many teams and probably just needs another assistant to keep up.

Handy dandy preseason prediction kit for teams not in the top 20
