50 Degree Out Sunday But 1 Foot of Snow Possible Tuesday-Wednesday in CNY (PS; Coin)
The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow watch for Central New York, with up to a foot of snow possible Tuesday and Wednesday.
The weather service warns of "dangerous travel" conditions, with poor visibility and winds of 15 to 25 mph, gusting to 40 mph.
"Drifting snow which could make keeping roads clear challenging," the weather service said.
The lake effect snow watch is for Tuesday evening and all day Wednesday for Onondaga, Madison and Oneida counties.
Tug Hill and Western New York are getting hit hard with lake effect now; nearly 2 feet has already fallen in Highmarket. (Several schools have announced closuresfor today.) That snow will stay north of Syracuse during day today, and give us a few flurries during the day Tuesday, the weather service said.
"Colder air will follow this system as winds shift to the northwest and push the heavier lake effect snows southward into Onondaga, Madison and Oneida counties Tuesday night and Wednesday," the weather service said. "The lake effect snows will taper off by Wednesday night."
Temperatures will be in the teens to mid 20s.
