Good stuff.

They're like a baseball team that happened to strand a lot of runners but unlike baseball there aren't enough games for this stuff to average out

more like baseball playoffs (correcting for smaller sample size)

worst pass defense since 2000 - Syracuse 2002

They were 6th in the country in 2000. (what a frustrating year)

Quite a drop in 2 years

spin stats... not sure which I like better on that list... Cuse @ 16 or Buttgers @ 73 :p

I think I like the prediction for Cincinnati:

Syracuse Cincinnati

Rushing Yards
127
218
Passing Yards
390
197
Total Yards
517
415

2002 was a truly frustrating year.

The staff was convinced that we challenge for a BCS bid that year.

It started with that dropped pass by Lenny Cusumano on fourth and goal TE throw back from the one at BYU - wide open - and it just never seemed to get any better.

We really suffered from the loss of Dwight Freeney and Quentin Harris on that side of the ball.

i had a stroke after seeing how bad the pass defense was in the spring game. maybe they thought they were better on offense than they were only because anyone could throw on that defense.

i don't know how anyone in the world could've thought that team could get the BCS over miami.

I'm telling ya.

The coaches were convinced that 2002 was the year - they thought 2001 would be a development year.

I think they thought that the young DEs - LaCasse, Wyche, along with Pollard - would be solid. They also had guys like Jameel Dumas, Christian Ferrara, Louis Gachelin, and Josh Thomas - they had some talent on defense.

They also had a QB - RJ - who they thought would have a break out year. They thought that Johnny Morant would continue to develop along Jameel Riddle. They had Reyes and Damien Rhodes - who tore it up during summer camp and who had a really great first game at BYU.

They clearly did not see the drop off at safety - I thought the loss of Harris was very important.

2002 was a horrible season - still, we beat Va Tech in OT and should have beaten Auburn at Auburn in OT.

Ugh.

we also blew a 4th quarter lead against north carolina and had the missed PAT against temple. 4-8 could easily have been 6-6.

central florida game was also a good one.

we blew the lead against north carolina because we had the worst pass defense ever

Rutgers #73. Sounds about right.

Don't believe it. It's obvious that Annar Rankings visits syracusefan.com regularly and has been exposed to the Rutgers groupthink that infects the forum.

The pass defense problems became quite evident when Rhode Island moved the ball up and down the field on us in the Dome.

Anyone remember who our defensive backfield was?

Definitely Latroy Oliver, who might have been the tiniest person ever to play for us.

Will Hunter. Young Steve Gregory (I'm not sure how much he played).

Wasn't that the 'Josh Thomas is now a monster' preseason? I definitely got up caught in that hype lol...

Yes, but he did have a few good years with the Colts - so there was something there.

LaCasse played for the Colts as well.

J. Dumas was a disappointment - he should have had a better career in my opinion.
