For Millhouse

keon walker and oneil scott

Maurice McClain (all 140 lbs of him) was expected to be the free safety, but he was hurt up until the VT game I believe (where he made the INT in OT). He was the only significant long term injury, I remember at one point we had posted the participation #'s, he was the only projected starter who missed more than a game or two.

I can see why the staff thought it would be a better team. But thinking they were BCS worthy seems nuts if only for that loaded Miami team in 2002. They weren't as good as the 2001 Miami team, but still probably should have been the national champion.

Secondary was bizarrely bad. Reminiscent of how the WVU or Baylor secondaries play this year. A group of slow players who seemed to have no idea where they were supposed to be.

The whole DL and secondary had leg injuries that effected them most of the year.

It's not better or worse than any other ranking system but rather is meant to give some insights on the overall strenghth of teams assuming the turnovers average out, key players stay healthy, kickers don't shank short field goals and most importantly red zone offense and defense.

Sounds familiar

J. Dumas was a disappointment - he should have had a better career in my opinion.

Will Hicks' doughnut powder fingerprints are all over that one

O'neil Scott. That name sends shivers down my spine. Worst safety I ever saw in Orange. Literally fell for every play action pass that season. Ironically had a game winning int against va tech didn't he???

We all thought we had a great team until byu undressed us in the opener.

A bunch of dudes had injuries due to incredibly bad conditioning. Thomas was way over 300 pounds after weighing like 260 or something the year before, right? And Dumas was bragging about the gut that season if I remember correctly.

You don't remember DeShawn Hawkins or Warren Harvey?

I'm telling ya.

The coaches were convinced that 2002 was the year - they thought 2001 would be a development year.

I think they thought that the young DEs - LaCasse, Wyche, along with Pollard - would be solid. ...
They also had a QB - RJ - who they thought would have a break out year. ...

Ugh.

I get this to some degree I guess. Tyree was on that team too and we all loved morant, rhodes and reyes. But they had ridden the core of freeney (just an absolutely absurd individual season), harris, mungro, and kyle johnson and I think a veteran offensive line (Pj alexander?) to a really unlikely 10-3.

To think really young DEs like LaCasse (who wouldn't make an impact until three years later), Wyche coupled with an expanded role for RJ (who makes Nassib look like peyton manning ... literally), was not only going to keep them really competitive but lift them past VaTech and Miami seems crazy to me.
